Explain One Play: Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Jordan Poole blow open the Blazers-Warriors game
It blew up in a hurry
A list of all Explain One Play articles and videos is at The new Explain One Play index.
The Warriors and Blazers were tied 42-42 near the end of the first half, and suddenly the Warriors went into a higher gear and ended the period up 14 in the 2021.11.27.POR-GSW game. Steph Curry and Draymond Green provided the telepathy and gravity and Jordan Poole chipped in some key passing and shotmaking.
Co-starring good defense and under-the-radar smart cutting of Otto Porter Jr and a decisive Andrew Wiggins. Also with Damian Lillard, C.J. McCollum, and Jusef Nurkic.

A key detail about the Steph/Poole high to low five: notice the alignment of their elbows. These guys are all about the fundamentals.
This E1P reminded me of the airplane diagram with the holes in it posted during the 15 win season. It was pretty clear that B-ball IQ and shooting were the cockpit (Aka the keys to the Warriors success) and for some reason the Warriors kept looking for athletic projects that they could train up.
This year, they finally put more plating around the cockpit going all in on vets who know how to play basketball who may or may not have it physically: Dre, Bjelica, Porter. This year seems like it has already helped Poole and Wiggins progress with the timing and trust of their passing and rotations more than all of last year too.
It’s glorious how quick the payoff has been, and hopefully Lacob and Myers have taken note how good it feels when they provide Kerr with basketball players rather than athletes.
The E1P’s have really been showing that payoff in slow motion this year so maybe we should get Meyers a subscription?
