Some wonderfully hilarious commentary, Eric. Very entertaining, as was your attempt to do the umlaut properly. I counted at least 4 variations of pronunciation before I just gave up. I can't do them either. To me, he is Schroder, like the Peanuts character. Simple.

Pronouncing the ö umlaut: go from an 'eh' sound towards the French '-eau' and then on to an 'uh' sound and stop half-way, rounding your lips. Don't let your family watch as you attempt this.

To stop “Scissors”, teams are going to start playing “Rock” defense.

Expand full comment

No worries, Steph can handle the Rock.

But then the Warriors switch to a paper offense, and then the defense is using scissors? Is that how it works?

Expand full comment

In all seriousness, isn't that basically how it works? The defense tries to counter the thing the offense tries to do and the offense should then try something the defense is not expecting?

Everybody expects you to go “paper”…

(Haven’t watched the vid yet, but looking forward to it)

Anyone seen any updates on Steph’s ankle, thumb or knee? Or Draymond’s back/calf?

I think all these dings show the perils of trading away the future to try to make a run centered around old guys.

No updates seen yet. But if I were a gambling girl....I would say neither Draymond or Steph play tomorrow.

I like the scoring format for Unrivaled. Warming up to the 1 shot for 1/2/3 point freethrows. Then the 4th quarter has no time. First to 11 off the leading scorer after three. So if score after three was 50-40. First team to 61 in the 4th wins.

I would not like these changes for the NBA. If there are too many FTs, just change the rules to call fewer fouls.

I don't know if it would work for the NBA but it definitely works for Unrivaled.

Counter-point: Yeah, Steph doesn’t get mugged enough.

Expand full comment

Counter-counter-point:

1. neither called nor uncalled fouls on Steph result in FTs, so not impacted by any change to the FT rules.

2. Steph already gets no calls, so anything to relax the rules would bring the rest of the NBA closer to the way they call Steph.

3. They can’t really mug Steph any more than they already do.

Hey! That was my counter-counter-point, so your point doesn't count.

Upon further consideration, this has been an overall unpleasant en-counter and I think we should just table the whole thing.

Counter-counter-point: Unless you call 0 fouls ever, I'm not sure you can call fewer fouls on Steph. ;p

I would expect “Scissors”, to have more cuts to the basket.

I think maybe we have to stop complaining about the moving screen calls. That one play, Steph and TJD looked like the Raiders offensive line from the 70s.

Also, kudos to Fitz for realizing live that GPII was bringing Naz Reid up so Steph could work on him (course he might have heard Kerr, too).

It’s hard to ref those screens. Usually the problem is actually a push up top, I think. But yeah, they let guys get away with a lot of movement on screens.

Expand full comment

They have to, because a moving screen could otherwise be called on every other play. This is why the reffing problem is and will always be unsolvable. It’s just part of the game.
