Sorry to be late to the party but our electricity was out for a couple of days. Super-happy for Klay and if my being without power somehow helps the Warriors win, hey -- headlamps and woodstove 'til the end of the season is fine with me.
Question: what is DDV doing with his hands and feet from about 2:54 to 3:10 on the E1P video? Is this some kind of signal? Are his pink shoes feeling strange?
Dilly reposted below a tweet offering "Records broken tonight by Klay." Let's be clear: I like Dilly. Dilly is funny and knows bball. But I'm under-enthusiastic about the items in that tweet. And this reminds me that I've long wanted to get the collective DNHQ mind going on what we think is actually a record and what is merely a distinction, or achievement. "Most threes in a game" seems like a record, sure. But "Only player with multiple 12 3PM games in a month" seems like a notable distinction, but not a record. So how would we define an actual record? First, I'd suggest, the fewer qualifiers the better. "Only player with multiple 12 3PM games in a month" has three. Also: why is 12 the cut-off here? Further, it would seem important that the record have some reason for existing -- that it measures something helpful in understanding and appreciating the game. A classic annoyance in this regard is something like, "Since 1999, the Miami Heat have never beaten the Milwaukee Bucks in a 7 game series when they were down 2-0 on the road." Never mind that none of the current players were involved in any of the previous series. I'd also say that it matters if the player or team, or fans, know the existence of the record prior to it being announced. Most points in a career? LeBron James. We all knew it was coming. "Most points in a career by a player who has played for three or more teams" is also a record he set that night, but no one mentioned. So what's your definition? Why specifically does "Most three pointers in a career" seem obviously a record and "Most three pointers in a career by a left handed player" seem like not?
Do you really like me? Just passing along some info I found interesting. Didn't know any of that stuff until I read it. Did not remember most of it as soon as I read it. No need to make an issue of it.
Meh, such a record may be trivial, but it reveals something moderately interesting about the structure of the game and/or the nature of the player. I don't mind this all that much.
"Only player with multiple 12 3PM games in a month" may sound like a distinction, but “Most games with 12+ 3-pointers in a single month” sounds like a record to me.

A comment from CanisHoopis about Friday's Twolves loss to the Hornets:
> The number one issue to me is that Connelly (and Rosas/Gupta) built two separate teams that operate functionally in two totally different ways, but there isn't enough cross over to make it work as a unit with the type of players we currently have.
We're not the only team with a somewhat awkwardly fitting group of players.
Is Dubby ok? He’s been MIA and not putting out articles at 7am daily recently… I know it’s like complaining about Steph only making 41% of his 3s while being double teamed at half court, but Dubby not achieving the insanely high standard of excellence he’s set for the last 5 years is a bit jarring. Hope it’s cuz he’s got better things to do.
Maybe there should be a dubnationhq invitational when the weather is better. I don't have an official handicap but unofficially it is asymptotically approaching infinity the more I play.
Presumably he is dealing with personal issues as is Andrew Wiggins so I will predict a Warriors win on his behalf (even if I lack confidence in that prediction - but who knows? Klay could go off again)
Never is a long time… and remember that the Pels were 23-12 on 12/30, and we thought we’d never catch them either. I doubt we catch the Kings, but they are only 4.5 up on us, stranger things have happened
It’s not the same though… in a small sample, it’s quite doable. Assume we beat the Kings in our last remaining game, and we’re effectively 3.5 games back with head-to-head advantage. A couple random endings or an injury is more than enough. Do I think it’s going to happen? No, maybe 10% of outcomes can have Warriors ahead of Kings at the end of the season. But 10% of outcomes is far from “never”. I’m just picking easy debate stance by arguing against an absolute 😜
True. But in 2014 (coming off a #6 seed and first-round exit) I’d have been pretty chuffed to learn the Warriors were about to *average* 69 wins over the next three seasons, and win four of the next eight NBA titles (4x more than any other team).
And I’d have been amused to learn that in 2022-23 the Kings would still be trying for their first .500 or better season in 16 years.
Somewhat amazing fact: the last non-Adelman Kings team to finish .500 or better was … the 1982-83 squad led by Larry Drew and Eddie Johnson.
No question it's been an incredible run for the Warriors.
I'm happy for the Kings to be honest. They seem to have a competent GM, they definitely have a good coach, and I haven't heard a peep out of Ranadive in a couple of years or longer.
And as a former resident of Stockton for 8 years, I grew fond of the team, other than their owner, Cousins, and Rondo (edit: and Napear ... that guy was a racist dickhead).
Need to make the effort to watch some more Kings games, TBH. The few that I've seen have been fun.
But, injuries, development (not his bag), bad juju (Dray's punch), regression by some role players (Poole, Moody), and just ennui/overconfidence after the last title are factors too.
Seems like the shot clock operator stole at least 0.2s from the 76ers. Tatum's shot was completely through the hoop and below the net at 1.5s, but the clock read 1.3s when the ball was inbounded. Embiid's shot might have been good if the clock was set correctly.
I just had a 0 points/9 steals/6 blocks/5 assists game off the bench where I just shut down last years League MVP!! The announcers were calling me Sir Blockalot lmao
During the celebration audit, did anyone else think Moody looked like he was holding the phone that was actually the lady’s that was behind him. And why was she sitting there looking at her phone when she could’ve been celebrating and possible included in the E1P audit?

Comment was only 20% serious.
ok, thanks for your patience DNHQ!! Preview and game thread is up: https://dubnationhq.com/p/dubs-preview-looking-for-that-next

I agree with you on this point. It's like people are dumpster diving to try to find something they can call a record.

Maybe. But why? What's the thing that makes it a thing for you?
I didn’t say it was a record where they should’ve stopped the game, had him hug his parents and send the ball to Springfield, but it’s still a record.
In baseball, it would be something akin to “Most 3-homer games in a single month.”
I think that he should hug his parents more in general, but to me it's not a record.
That's just you. It is to the NBA, Warriors and Klay. Just because you don't want to get it doesn't mean it isn't a record or something special.

I love you all so much! Thanks for caring! I'm trying really hard to keep up with everything.
Yesterday:
1) Woke up, made breakfast for the family, buddy picked me up at 10. Then golf till afternoon, home around 4.
2) Walked across the street to my friends 50th bday party around 430. Hung out, ate and drank and chatted.
3) Back home around 7, Lyft to the city around 7:45 for a punk rock show (brought Mrs. Duby and my daughter)
4) home around 1230. Shower and bed by 1am.
Now I'm cranking out a short article before coaching my son's bball team at noon.
Golf? GOLF????
don't worry, I'm no good at it, and it takes a long time, so we don't get out all that often

Said in “Playoffs?!?!” Voice?

I have all sorts of charts and analytics to prove that sometimes the dubs are really good and sometimes they are not.
I also predict that dubby is
A) at a tournament for his kid
B) at a punk festival
C) overloaded with his super hero day job of green revolution
Hence: warriors win
lol this is extremely accurate from start to finish
I just came here to the write the same…
All of the records Klay set in the last game.

Words I never thought I would say again after 2014:
We're never going to catch the Sacramento Kings in the standings.
Never is a long time… and remember that the Pels were 23-12 on 12/30, and we thought we’d never catch them either. I doubt we catch the Kings, but they are only 4.5 up on us, stranger things have happened
4.5 games with 20 to play is a huge lead. It's the equivalent of a 18 game lead for a whole season.
And, two of our three best players are out indefinitely.
So, while I admire the Koolaid drinking, I do not share it. :)
It’s not the same though… in a small sample, it’s quite doable. Assume we beat the Kings in our last remaining game, and we’re effectively 3.5 games back with head-to-head advantage. Can we all just agree the problem with this years team is we miss Mike Brown's leadership?
That's part of it, I'm sure.
But, injuries, development (not his bag), bad juju (Dray's punch), regression by some role players (Poole, Moody), and just ennui/overconfidence after the last title are factors too.
In the west:
5-13 separated by 4 games
The end of the Celtic-76ers game was entertaining..
I was rooting for the Celtics, but that Embiid last shot was insane! I was disappointed it was too late.
Seems like the shot clock operator stole at least 0.2s from the 76ers. Tatum's shot was completely through the hoop and below the net at 1.5s, but the clock read 1.3s when the ball was inbounded. Embiid's shot might have been good if the clock was set correctly.

That happens all the time, tho… and Embiid knew he only had 1.3 when they inbounded… it’s whatever
I was too. I didn't think it had a chance of going in when he shot it.
Another video on Klay's shooting spree. I like this guy's breakdowns (second only to E1P, of course).

RED ALERT: as of right now, tomorrows game is a preview of the 7/8 play in game! Well… except without Steph, Wiggins, KAT, GP2, and maybe Dray too
I just had a 0 points/9 steals/6 blocks/5 assists game off the bench where I just shut down last years League MVP!! The announcers were calling me Sir Blockalot lmao
Congrats! That sounds like an incredibly satisfying game to play.
GPWho?

OMG, did you read the comments on the thread? I can't quite imagine why Steph still has haters at this point.
And the guy who posted LeBron's track down block (goal tend) on Iggy as his favorite memory of Steph's career... WTF, Steph wasn't even in the play.
On Steph’s sweatshirt:BESEENBEHEARDBECELEBRATED. Cool!
George!
