Great video, and thanks for the bonus Yates reference.

Video underscores just how close a game it was. I want to declare Dubs have taken command of the series, never to look back -- but the reality is this was a close close game. Be nice to have Draymond back.

Can someone provide a link to the "expected points" for each team in Game 1 based on shot quality? I've seen similar stats here for some of the Denver games. I know it's an iffy model but I thought the Dubs got much higher quality shots than did the Grizzlies, even if they missed a lot of them.

Botox gone wrong. Lol.

What a finish, what a game. Still floored by some of the calls- perhaps none more than Steph picking up a charge on the Dillon Brooks block, which looking back is still hard to believe- but I guess that makes it all the sweeter. If we can grab game two, that puts our foot on their throats. Go dubs!

This memphis team is very undisciplined defensively I actually dont know how they rated so high, they started the game out giving klay 5 wide open 3s helping off of him

This is true. However, they're a very good team that can be brilliant when it clicks. If we can beat them, I genuinely believe we should be favored against Phoenix or any other team in the East.

They did a good job of making life VERY hard for Steph. You could tell that is what they were selling out for. Frankly, Green getting ejected may have helped the Warriors here.

Why, you ask? Memphis seemed prepared for our regular lateral movement, Draymond QB's the show, action that tends to happen above the 3 point line. Their length and athleticism seemed to bog things down toward the beginning of the game.

When Draymond went out, the Warriors were able to adjust (they did play a long stretch of the season without him) but the Grizzlies didn't really seem able to nearly as well.

The Warriors are definitely better with Dray, but Memphis knew more what to expect with him in there. Good thing Green isn't the only one on the team who is a great passer and has a high BBIQ.

Thanks Eric, this video really helped highlight for me the contributions of Wiggins down the stretch. Really solid contributions.

Without both Wiggins and GP2's play we're looking at a 0-1 deficit right now.

Also, the Shining Twins defense.... LOL

Pretty quiet on the Morant Twitter front. We beat them and just went on with our day without trash talk because it's only game 1. Difference between a vet team and a young team. Ja has no bulletin board material lol

I am really curious about this "Morant as the new Westbrook" take I've seen a few times. His player weaknesses do seem similar as do his hype man and sulk tendencies. That W/L record the Grizzlies had without him may mean something...

Expand full comment

Hmm, I guess we'll see. Still pretty young, but the similarities are there to a early-20s Russ

I think that's a pretty tough take on a guy who is 22 and already has his team in the second round with not a lot of all-star level help. Ja is pretty undisciplinedly emotional, (again 22) but to me he's already more of a team player than Westbrook has ever been and has empirically better shot selection. Morant's EFG (.509, .487, .530) is almost 8 percentage points higher than Westbrook's (.414, .428., .454) over his first three seasons. And he's a much better three point shooter (three year average 33 percent to 27 including an almost acceptable 34.4 percent this year). My bigger concern for Morant is more about long term durability than Westbrook World.

Oh I don't necessarily agree with it just playing devils advocate

The most encouraging thing for the Warriors is that aside from Poole, the shooters didn't shoot all that well missing some really make-able shots (including free throws). The Grizzlies actually ended up with the better 3pt percentage and I doubt they can keep that up.

The real question for me is which future star is Myers going to get with the 28th pick in this years draft. [And somebody from nbadraft must be reading my comments as before they had E.J. Liddle compared to some other guys and now they have him compared to Eric Pashell which was my first thought looking at his stats and size]

Andre is the only one not celebrating, too busy giving Draymond an earful! Not Coach Kerr, not Steph, only Andre can do that! 😄

Draymaximus: You ask me what I want. I too want to stand before the Emperor as FMPV as you did.

Proximodala: Then listen to me. Learn from me. I wasn't the best because I played recklessly. I was the best because the crowd loved me. Win the crowd. And you will win your FMPV.

Draymaximus: I will win the crowd. I will give them something they have never seen before...

I feel like the way Draymond has shown the ability to be so calculating on his podcast undermines the narrative that he kind of has to be a loose cannon to activate full Dray powers on the court. I'm starting to think it's a choice.

Andre not having any tolerance for it reinforces that POV.

Ha ha. He kept trying to give a talking to Dray in the tunnel but Dray kept dappimg people coming in after the win. After a while Dre seemed to have relaxed a bit. What a vet. Too bad he can't stay healthy. Would have been great to have next year as well.

This is likely Andre's last chance for a(nother) ring. He's not going to let Dray mess it up for them on some bonehead plays!

I loved the way he was all over Draymond and Klay. Andre knows what the ultimate goal is. This is the exact reason we need him on this team even if his body can't go.

Nice to see some shine here on Steph's double block without fouling while saddled with five fouls against one of the most dynamic rim attackers in the NBA today. Yeah the defense funneled Ja but that's what good team defense is about, still requires being in the right place, fast footwork, and very disciplined hands all in a split second of time. Honestly I had no idea Steph had it in him for the actual block with the left after Ja recovered from the first swipe with his right.

Watching Ja make all those circus shots and passes seemingly after the last possible moment made me think that the Warriors were going to adjust to that in a series. Steph's and Klay's blocks at the end made me think they have already started.

When I saw that block I was thinking thank God no whistle, I guess the refs flinched when they could have finally robbed us
