“Two steps, which is a lot after the gather” ROFLMAO :). Very very subtle.

one element of the W's offensive prowess that E1P highlites so well is their ability to read the defensive player's subtle movements and react to the opening space...Curry especially with the deft dribbling 1 on 1 or the post passer on the split cuts reading who will be open for the drive or the 3.

Thank YOU, Mr. Apricot

Loved that play that had 3 options to make the same cut down the middle lol.

Also great to see JTA has the instincts to make the right reads and play freelance defense.

Agreed, it's especially cool in these breakdowns when you can see the same setup pay out in different ways as the defense adjusts. Apricot's way of showing them back to back with diagrams really highlights the strategic elements—the offense getting positioned to execute the play, the defense deciding how to react based on who's running which role, the offense reading the reaction and countering it... The caricatures of Green and Dre philosophizing are funny in part because you really start to see the depth of the mental game in the plays.

Dude is such a baller… and has been groomed in the Warriors way for 3 years.

I'm a big fan of JTA (love his story plus he's from East Oakland represent!!), which is why I'm struggling with the fact that I want Kuminga to also get minutes.

Expand full comment

Eventually, I suspect Kuminga will be a starter while Juan will settle into the Iggy/Swiss Army Knife off the bench role.

Expand full comment

I would have thought so too about a month ago but the team is playing at such a high level that Kuminga is going to need to find a spark or spend most of his time watching from the bench while guys like JTA have career defining years

Expand full comment

When I said “eventually”, I meant “beyond this season”. Baring injuries, I think there’s too much talent in front of Kuminga for us to expect him to leap frog them and take their minutes, and I think JTA will remain behind Iggy for the rest of the season.

Yeah, totally. I think my posts regarding Wiseman, and the rooks might get some pushback here eventually because of my skepticism. I’m still trying to get over last season’s focus on Wiseman and for so many previous seasons the Warriors only had high draft picks so you didn’t worry about young players getting minutes for any other reason than they could handle them. If that makes sense.

I think Wiseman will get a bunch of minutes. Once he’s in game shape:

1. I think he’ll be much further along than people realize

2. With his size, length and skill set, there will be some situations where he won’t have to do that much to take minutes from Looney.

It's an optimistic take, but I'm with you. Now, if JW would just get well....

“Eventually” probably kicks in next year, or maybe year after… but 100% agree. And super happy that JTA knows his place in the NBA already. Selfishly hope he sticks with the Dubs, but also hoping for him to get a contract offer the Dubs can’t match.

100% agree.

OTOH, if GSW can find a way to pay him a few dollars over the minimum then being a Warrior For Life might be worth a lot of money in the long run.

He is such a perfect symbol for this organization and a such a great cultural fit that I already assume he will have a job offer in the front office or the sidelines.

Or maybe Mayor of Oakland. I bet he could win that one in a landslide :)

Yeah, I definitely meant “beyond this season”.

Niang's shove to JTA's chest seems to have been a way of saying. "We're losing, it's only going to get worse, I already have five fouls, and JTA annoys me. How can I get out of this game as quick as possible?"

Expand full comment

I didn't like that they didn't call a flagrant there. Fitz played it off like, "Well, I guess there's a bunch of shoving on rebounds, so no big deal..." but it didn't look at all like a basketball play. JTA composed himself relatively quickly, but I didn't blame him for wanting a piece of Niang.

Definitely a dumb way of thinking, that was a made 3 and would have cut W’s lead to 6

I took it as a direct disrespect for the east bay as a whole, enjoyed jta’s reaction and seeing gp2 holding him back. Assuming there’s some good ol mosswood references for Daniel in that series of events!

Warriors now have the fourth weakest strength of schedule according to Basketball-Reference, ahead of the Bucks, Knicks, and Suns.

Warriors have 7 wins over top 15 teams by SRS, with the best win being over the #5 Nets. Both the Hawks and Wolves have won quite a bit since the Warriors played them and are #8 and #11 by SRS at the moment, respectively.

I'm sure the SOS will shoot up quite a bit after playing the #9 Blazers, #6 Clippers, and the #4 Suns twice. 2-2 with one of the wins coming against the Suns would be nice.

Call me greedy, but 2-2 would be meh. I expect them to beat Portland and win 2 of the other 3.

*4-0

Expand full comment

If they go 4-0, they’ll be 21-2… that’s a lot to take in. Even 3-1 will put them 17 games over 0.500… which is better than the oddsmakers gave them for the whole season at 48.5-33.5.

Those 14-15 dubs started 21-2, wouldn't be surprised if they did it again

JTA/GP2 hoisting the NBA Finals trophy! This team’s got some of that Championship stank surrounding it at the moment. Let’s see if they can blot out the Suns.

Expand full comment

Warriors have to face Portland and the Clippers (in LA) first. Suns have New York and New Jersey, both in their gyms, first.

Personally, I am looking forward to see if this defense can clamp down on Booker and CP3 (and Ayton) in the 4th quarter, on the road. If we can do that before Klay and Wiseman are back then DAMN.

Baring major injuries, this team is only going to get better between now and the finals.

Expand full comment

Yeah, the Blazers and Clippers aren’t part of any conversation, they are more “maintain focus” games, Suns are definitely “statement” games

Outta here with that “trap game” attitude

Your focus on that Damion Lee celebration at the end made me realize his shooting hand is wrapped up. Wonder if he's dealing with something and that's why his shooting has fallen off lately.
