I think Steph's celebration has a bit of Gladiator "Are you not entertained?!" energy to it. And let me tell you, when Poole is putting on that type of show, I am most certainly entertained.
Also just had to throw this out there: that broadcast last night was TERRIBLE. I hate fitz as much as the next guy but at least he's talking about the game I'm watching part of the time. That was just like listening to your drunk uncles mumble about their college days for 2 hours. Love the idea and mad respect for Run TMC but... sheesh that was bad (not even mentioning the comment Tim had to apologize for lol)
I've noisily been a Kuminga fan, but not because he's my friend. The promise all along has been that he can leverage his athleticism to be a great on-ball and help defender; and that on offense he can slash, distribute, and shoot. Some days, like last night, he really seems close to that, as you'd know if you'd watched the damned breakdown. Go do that, on YouTube, give it a thumbs up you cretin. If Kuminga could do last night every night, he'd be a starter level player or even a star. His problems are of course consistency and making poor decisions, being in the wrong spots, overhelping, etc. I can't guarantee he'll ever solve those problems, but they do seem like the kind of problems young players have and grow out of with work. Contrast that with something like Wiseman bobbling a lot of balls or being slow to close out to the wing. That seems more of a core problem than a fixable one.
Around 1980 two women hit the pop charts with breakthrough hits. I would have bet that Cyndi Lauper was headed for major superstardom, and Madonna was just leveraging sex appeal, and would flame out in six months. This is both an admission that I don't really know, and an extremely strong if unexpected analogy.
A question about the JMG & Kuminga perimeter D. It seemed like there were a few plays where they both got caught up on the screen, or Kuminga stuck on the screen while JMG vacated the area in case there was a rebound off the open shot. Is that a communication issue?or is it JMG feeling uncomfortable on the perimeter and wanting to run back to his comfort zone? Or is Kuminga supposed to be fighting through to stay on ball?
Glad they had a chance to play more in a win, but what is the fix on the perimeter D between those two?
By far the best game of the season, for the bench especially but also overall. Sadly JW was still terrible in his limited minutes in garbage time and I can't help but feel like the fact that Klay wasn't there to go 2 for 10 didn't hurt either. I think DDV also had his best game (not great but trending in the right direction). The front office is gonna have some tough decisions to make this year. JK is showing improvement as is moody but JW has no business being on an NBA floor yet IMO. I also have a sneaky good feeling about this Rollins kid...
