I think it's a very good thing that so many players who were on the team in its best recent seasons are happy and excited to come back in post-retirement roles. (Don't forget, we have/had Zaza helping too.)

For one, it's obviously a sign that they appreciated their time with the franchise, felt welcome, and agreed with how the team is run. For two, it provides continuity, so there's not just one guy who's sticking around to pass on the lessons and the culture, but a whole off-the-court team that's familiar with that stuff in different aspects and interested in continuing it. For three, it provides a great career path for athletes after their time as players—you can imagine how weird it would be to retire at age 30-something, already on top of the world, and be like... so where do I go from here? This is not a new answer nor the only one, but it's a good one.

Lastly, Livingston is totally right that upper management in all sports, but especially basketball, is disproportionately white. There are times where the nature of team ownership, fandom playing armchair GM, and so on, feels eerily reminiscent of the image of slavery: rich (mostly white) "owners" and bosses treating (mostly black) players like assets to be traded and dealt. Closing the racial divide should help to reduce that bad look, and maybe bring some other benefits too. (For my part, I try to emphasize the humanity of the players and avoid dehumanizing terms like "asset" when referring to a person.)

Very excited to hear the news of both of these moves yesterday. Livingston and Andre are both some of the smartest players (ex-player in Livingston's case) I've had the pleasure of listening to speak on a number of topics and I figured both would find their way to front offices if they so desired, hopefully with the Warriors. Glad that part is coming true. The LB hire is less expected but no less welcome. Happy that the Dubs are growing and building upon their already great culture.

Bringing Barbosa and Livingston back is a dream come true. But what happened to Leandro’s eyes?
