Lots of premature "they counted us out" talk from both teams up 2-0 right now. Doing interviews like Steph did last year after winning the chip. It's still the CF only. These series are not even close to being over. I think they'll both go to 6+.
I have been thinking about the whole Bob Myers situation, and I came to this conclusion: he is right in doing so. What’s the point, in this moment of his career, to stay and quarrel with Kerr and Lacob for every Kuminga’s minute or rookies development, when he can snap fingers and lead a team like OKC, with a zillion picks, to glory?
He is not leaving for another team, period. All indications including Monte Poole that he wants to take a year off. And who wouldn't after dealing with an ambitious involved Lacob for 10 years including the whole two-timeline thing AND dealing with Dray.
That happens when you care about something even Dray - like him telling Dray to not go back in the game 6 down 22 lest he tear his calf.
I dunno, I don't think Myers is a guy who would walk away just to duck a hard business discussion, and Klay and Draymond know the score. I agree with Goofus, I think he hasn't had enough time for his personal life and family and could use some time off to think about what comes next. I bet he takes a sabbatical if he doesn't stay with the Dubs.
I’m guessing that, if he leaves, it’ll be for something other than GMing, at least for a year. From his comments about Kerr’s back issues and Wiggins’ time off, he sounds like a guy who’s committed to work/life balance and I think he’d truly enjoy a less demanding job for a bit. (Also, he’s already set for life financially.)
> This Podziemski kid who caught my eye after two games is staying in the draft. Everyone from GMs to scouts had positive feedback in Chicago. Expecting a first-round pick.
OT: New video! Cinque Terre, the Italian Riveria: One of the most beautiful destinations we’ve ever visited. We explored all five towns and each one is a picture postcard worth framing. https://youtu.be/lotUt-Qj1D8 (14 minutes long, but the last few minutes are just tips that can be skipped if you’re not planning a visit.)
Graci, but since that video was shot, we’ve left Italy and have been to Malta, Spain and are now in Portugal. (The adventures have been coming fast and furious and I can’t keep up with the editing!) Next up are videos of Pisa, Tuscany and Milan.
Benvenuto in Liguria! Wonder why the houses in Cinqueterre are of those weird and ever different color? The reason is that until recent years, all those houses belonged to extremely poor fishermen, that, at the time of repainting their houses (that was quite often, due to the air humidity and salinity), they never had enough money to buy enough paint to finish the job, thus they were forced to fill up the paint canisters with the weirdest materials that they could find.
That’s some cool background! I lived in Pacifica for many years overlooking the coast and can identify with what the sea air does to homes and paint. It’s like living on a boat.
Thanks and yeah, it turned out we made a wise decision not to hike any of the trails that connected the five towns, which saved our knees and feet for the buttload of urban hiking we did in and above the towns. In truth, the between-town trails looked more like what you could see in many places in California, while the in-town trails were truly unique. (I probably should’ve made that a 4th tip.)
We’re pretty avid hikers both on Maui and around the Oregon Coast where we spend a lot of time, but are not used to cobblestone paths! It’s an altogether different effect on your bones.
Just watched the video - very entertaining and informative! A truly gorgeous part of the world and the combination of the scenery and the food/wine is unparalleled. Glad you had fun and thanks for sharing.
"teams over that $17.5 million threshold twice in four seasons will have their first-round pick seven years in the future dropped to the end of the round" -- maybe people have mentioned this already, but i hadn't seen that particular wrinkle before. That's a pretty crappy rule. If it goes into effect right away, I imagine it's going to be hard for the Warriors to not exceed the line in the first two years, unless they just salary dump.
Oof, very punitive, as it also sharply reduces the trade value of future picks for teams in danger of hitting that provision. I had missed that the players had already ratified the deal back at the end of April, so this is actually happening. We're locked into exceeding the second apron for the upcoming season, but beyond that ... Klay might need to kiss his extension goodbye.
The Warriors must really have burned somebody in the NBA league office. I don't get it at all. In addition to playing an entertaining style of basketball, the Ws feature the greatest showman in sports today, a guy whom even non-fans enjoy watching.
Maybe it's that whole parity thing rearing its ugly head. Whatever the reason, it seems misguided and a missed opportunity.
In WNBA news, the NY Liberty got absolutely smoked by the Mystics in their first game with Brianna Stewart, Jonquel Jones, and Courtney Vandersloot. Reminiscent of the Durant Warriors losing their first game by 30 to the Spurs back in 2016. They'll figure things out, but Washington is no joke in their own right—great defensive team, with an all-time great in Elena Delle Donne. If you've never seen her play, it's something to behold.
Not surprised hearing this about the Mystics. See they still have a few players from their championship run ( though some may have left and came back).
One thing i dont get about WNBA well specifically the narrative around Caitlin Clark and the media saying she was the next Steph Curry and no player like her in last decade yet wasnt Sabrina Ionescu supposed to be the next Steph Curry? Like i could have sworn the hype around Sabrina coming out and yet the media acted like she never existed when covering Caitlin Clark
I mean, that sort of thing happens in the men's game, too, doesn't it? How many 'next Michael Jordans' did we get? Caitlin and Sabrina are somewhat similar, but the unprecedented thing about Clark is the sheer volume of 3PA. She's over 11 per 40 minutes, which is close to where Steph was in college. Sabrina never really got anywhere near that, so the comparison would have had more to do with range and efficiency in her case.
I think that happens in most sports. Bobby Murcer, the poor man, was expected to be the next Mickey Mantle. It happens in music, too, bands used to be ballyhooed as the next Beatles or Elvis. It's understandable that fans and the media make wishful comparisons like that but it creates unrealistic expectations, and it misses the point. Let Caitlin Clark be the first Caitlin Clark. That will likely be more than good enough.
When the Nuggets win the title: it's a conspiracy against the Warriors to humiliate them by having a former assistant win the title! . . . or is it a conspiracy to give the Kroenke's the title to make up for Arsenal blowing one of the biggest upsets in EPL history? I demand answers!
Well, would it not be league wanting a “legacy” matchup of Celtics v LA, and also Lebron’s final hurrah?
I cant believe the foul discrepancy is not a bigger deal. Idont follow much other than whats posted here, is it not talked about? Doesnt seem like conspiracy, the numbers are pretty obvious
I've never been a Jimmy Butler fan. He was just such an obnoxious asshole early in his career, and crapping on his teammates in Minnesota was ridiculous (the intra-squad game where he showed up KAT? and Wiggs).
But, of course that means Miami is going to win it all and I'm just going to have to chew on it.
I don't feel sorry for those Wolves players. Butler took the third stringers and kicked the starters' asses (he didn't even try to score, just set up his teammates) and told 'em they were soft. He was disgusted by their lack of drive and dedication to excellence. They were losers even though they had talent. He wasn't nice about it but he was right.
Brown, Brogdon, and Horford + 1st rounder for Embiid (+filler - House?)? Or does Philly say no, even if even Embiid requests a trade? [pure speculation, of course, on the trade request].
Celtics definitely getting a new head coach, but I wouldn't be surprised if they look different next season if they don't win this season. Jaylen is also up for the $295 million Super max too, so who knows.

Good to see everything's still going as planned.

Great work by Apricot seeing the vision that Podziemski is a realistic option for the Warriors at #19.
A long shot for the Warriors pick, but he might be joining my Irrational Good Feeling team
Me too, especially now that I connected that he went to the same school as Steve Nash lol
And rookie of the year runner-up, Jalen Williams!!

Beautiful! My brother was there on Christmas once and said it was an amazing experience. My knees would quickly give out though!

That path is quite easy but large, and requires som training. It’s an excellent viewpoint in winter for huge and spectacular waves.
We’re pretty avid hikers both on Maui and around the Oregon Coast where we spend a lot of time, but are not used to cobblestone paths! It’s an altogether different effect on your bones.

Thank you for the kind words! We try for a balance of entertaining and informative, hoping to inspire people’s own adventures.

Yeah, it’s super punitive. My understanding is that it applies starting in the 2024-2025 season to give teams a little bit more time to react.
Oof, very punitive, as it also sharply reduces the trade value of future picks for teams in danger of hitting that provision. I had missed that the players had already ratified the deal back at the end of April, so this is actually happening. Omfg yes. Plz 4-0 LA and BOS.
I found myself rooting for the Celtics. I don’t even know who I am anymore… what’s wrong with me?
I started out like that - but now i want to see denver miami 😩
I too changed my mind and want Denver and Miami just to see the ratings tank and hopefully lead to a more favorable whistle next year.
Double edged sword though: may also lead to an even more
Lopsided whistle against the Lakers if we were to face them in the playoffs
Yea No. for whatever reason the league doesn’t value viewership that the Warriors bring. Rules will never favor us

I'm rooting hard for Jimmy and Bam to win a ring. Lowry is kind of sour to me since he taints their team with all of that bull crap theatrics
Coach Nick did a breakdown of game 1 of the Celtics vs. Heat series:

These Heat role players are so awesome. Gabe Vincent only had 5 points but impacted that game in so many other ways
Network executives with Lakers and Celitcs both down 2-0:

OK - now I can update my conspiracy theory.
Adam silver wanted to make sure there is one team that must NOT win - the Warriors. His mission is accomplished.
Now, he doesnt care! I hope the refs dont fuck it up for denver and miami!
When the Nuggets win the title: it's a conspiracy against the Warriors to humiliate them by having a former assistant win the title! . . . or is it a conspiracy to give the Kroenke's the title to make up for Arsenal blowing one of the biggest upsets in EPL history? I demand answers!
well - it will depend on what Silver does next year
Well, would it not be league wanting a “legacy” matchup of Celtics v LA, and also Lebron’s final hurrah?
I cant believe the foul discrepancy is not a bigger deal. Idont follow much other than whats posted here, is it not talked about? Doesnt seem like conspiracy, the numbers are pretty obvious
its become so obvious that it is now boring to talk about - Denver just decided to start each game as if the score is 0-8 at start of game :-)
This heat team - damn - very hard to root against them!
I can manage.
Kyle Lowry - thats who I recall so I can sports-hate on Miami - and eventually floriduh
I dislike Florida more than Massachusetts, but dislike Celtics fans more than Heat fans.
I've never been a Jimmy Butler fan. He was just such an obnoxious asshole early in his career, and crapping on his teammates in Minnesota was ridiculous (the intra-squad game where he showed up KAT? and Wiggs).

Well, I like the Warriors' way to get the best out of Wiggs much better.
I felt the same about him back then, but it seems to me that he just wasn't in the right place.
Heat culture seems like such a perfect match, and I'm incredibly impressed with what they're accomplishing.
Brown, Brogdon, and Horford + 1st rounder for Embiid (+filler - House?)? Or does Philly say no, even if even Embiid requests a trade? [pure speculation, of course, on the trade request].
I think Celtics need a new head coach.
I haven't been watching that series, so maybe he's made some obvious mistakes.
But for a rookie head coach to get to the conference finals? That's not terrible...
Celtics definitely getting a new head coach, but I wouldn't be surprised if they look different next season if they don't win this season. Jaylen is also up for the $295 million Super max too, so who knows.
The coach always goes 1st. (Unless the player is Ben Simmons).
Celtics are 4-5 at home this postseason (2-1 vs. Hawks, 2-2 vs. 76ers, 0-2 vs. Heat).
they had a similar bad home record last season as well - why would anybody want to play in front of bunch of racist mofos
6-6 at home last postseason (2-0 vs. Nets, 2-2 vs. Bucks, 1-2 vs. Heat, and 1-2 vs. Warriors). Wow.
Warriors: "Man that home loss was terrible."
Celtics: "Hold my Guinness"
