So I was watching this years Klay highlights and getting SUPER excited about next season Klay! And then about next seaon Poole!! And then about next season Wiggs!!! And then I couldn't decide what I'm most excited about... so I thought to ask DNHQ the opposite to balance my yin and yang. What are you MOST concerned about for next season? For me? Draymond starts to enter his physical decline.

I will always fear a major injury to Steph. He should be awarded every opportunity to display his greatness.

Expand full comment

That's gotta be the top concern, always. The Ws will go as far as Steph can lead them.

I'm also low-key concerned about:

- The eventual age-driven slowdown of Dray, Klay, and yes, Steph.

- That Kuminga, Wiseman, and Poole may get impatient about their roles on the team and become disgruntled.

- That Wiggins will become complacent.

Of course I'm hoping not. But I can be a bit fearful, even after all that winning.

I am almost always worried about poorly timed injuries. With all the days missed because of injuries last year (Klay, Dray, Steph), we had incredibly good luck that we were pretty clean headed into the playoffs. And while I know it was tough to see GPII miss more than a few games in the playoffs, all things considered that was manageable.

Well hot damn. 2nd week in a row with three comments on the weekly top comments summary.

Question is: why?

Changing my name from Richard to (w/e TF this is) is the obvious reason. Invoking a true name is a historically powerful way to unleash potential, magic or otherwise.

Length of comments? Perhaps. My “11 Thoughts” exegesis was longer than some of Duby’s regular columns.

Sudden analytical genius appearing? Not likely.

Utter destruction of any hope that TW island was anything more than a temporary sand bar? Nothing like a DNHQ flaunting dis to get a power up. Especially when you are so right (as I am) and DNHQ fanbois are so wrong (abandon all hope and keep that rowboat near). Yea that could be it.

King Richard the Worrier, we catalogue your sins:

You would have been there at the second battle of Cleves-land, but your horse was tied up in traffic. All was lost when the despicable King James and the 3 ( and 1) wise men charged our lines.

Almost made it to the siege of Houston, but the Princess Xanax needed saving.

At the massacre of Orleans (New), you were found nailing your 11 theses to the cathedral door instead of storming the battlements.

Your latest heresy of denying the crusade of Trevion has been noted. When the horn calling you to battle at Memphis has sounded, we expect you to be there.

"Trevion" definitely fits the Game of Thrones/Zones tone. Sounds the long-lost third Lannister brother.

Expand full comment

First, let me say this is a post of pure and utter genius.

However, it is factually incorrect on several counts.

As we all know, CL2 was stolen from us by the terrible wizardry of the leg attracting crotch of the evil Jebron Lames. I wasn’t struggling with my horse but instead swinging my pitchfork at the wizardric circle surrounding the arena casting its dread magics.

Houston was destroyed by the nuclear winter of Hardenized 3 point shooting, so in fact its lack of existence cannot logically prove anything.

To question the future possibility of the reality of the ur-Trevion is not heresy. Please reView Book 9, Chapter 4, Verse 12 of the Books of DNHQ. I will save you time and provide the quote: “Let the spirit of Rosterbation warm your soul. For there is no roster but the true roster, and all those who kindle kindly thoughts of C-Ur-Ry the Stephinator and allow themselves to dwell upon all that might be are welcome in the HQ. Especially in the dark pseudo-winter (though some call it summer but we all know that there is no basketball growth therewhen) between Glorious Seasons all prophecies must be considered, discussed, debated and challenged. Many times. Therefore rosterbate and be merry.”

I will be there at your side in Memphis, brothers, sisters, and others. And the enemy will tremble at our righteous spacing, passing and it shall be their end.

Hmm, just realized that summer league standout Mfiondu Kabengele and beloved of some of Dub Nation, he was actually drafted #27 2019 by the Nets, and was a bust with the Clippers.

Extra pain: the next three picks were

27 BRK Mfiondu Kabengele

28 GSW Jordan Poole

29 SAS Keldon Johnson

30 MIL Kevin Porter Jr.

I cannot imagine the level of teeth gnashing in Unhappy Dubs Twitter if that had been a GSW pick.

Current competitions for end rotation and G League pecking order:

PG Ryan Rollins & Mac McClung (Little Big Mac)

The 2m Dubs spent to move up to get Rollins, 2 pre-draft workouts, and initial plans to use some of the MLE to sign him to a 3-year deal on the 15-man roster show that this isn't much of a competition. The FO and Kerr like this kid a lot. But the stress fracture he had came out of left field and opened the door for a Summer League invite for McClung who has impressed in his own right, enough to secure a second date as a training camp invitee.

I don't see how Rollins loses his spot on the 15. But if there are any lingering issues with the foot, it would put pressure on the dubs to open a 2-way spot for McClung.

2Guard The 2 Qs, Quindarry & Quinones

As of 2day, the 2 two-way contracts are held by two 2Guards while a 3rd string 2Guard slot remains open on the 15-man (hypothetically, as I have Moody slotted as the backup Small Forward)

If Andre retires (or they don't add another vet in his place), I believe the Dubs will lean towards putting Quindarry on the 15-man. There is so much youth on the team, it would help to add a bit more continuity and experience (comparatively!) to the bench. I'm pretty confident that Quinones will stay on his two-way contract for the year, if only to keep a friend of Wiseman's in the fold.

It would seem weird to carry 2 two-way players who both played the same position which is the one position we have the most depth in, when you could use one of those slots for McClung or Trevion Williams or Gui Santos. So, I do really wonder what is going to happen with Quindarry.

Small Forward Patrick Baldwin Jr (PBJ) & Gui (Gui't the F outta here!) Santos

We have seen Santos and it does appear he intends to play in Santa Cruz at the very least. The question with him would be whether or not he could grab one of the two-way contracts. I will say no. He is young, still learning English and has to acclimate to a whole new culture. The best track for him would be a year in Santa Cruz only and let him get comfortable, work on his game without the pressure of the NBA, and aim and train for a roster spot next year.

PBJ should be with the big club all year healing, getting in shape practicing and we will just have to wait to see him when we see him. This may be like a red shirt year for him.

Power Forward & Center. Dray, JK & JMG at PF with Wiseman & Loon at center.

We do need one more big man on the 15 or a two-way at the very least. We all know the free agent vet bigs that are still out there. Enter Trevion Williams. The more I watch this guy the more I like him. We have an open slot on the 15 for a big. That's where I think he should be. If Quindarry gets on the 15 and TW takes the other two-way contract, so be it. But James Brown "Please, Please, Please" sign this guy Bob. You won't regret it.

Overall, not too much drama or intrigue heading into training camp, whenever that is. But the FO left enough questions unanswered that it should spice up training camp with some strong internal competition for the back end of the roster and G League.

To wrap this together with the roster:

Starters: Steph/Klay/Dray/Wiggs/Loon

Rotation Bench: JP, DDV, Moodz, JK, JMG, JW

3rd string bench: PBJ, PGspot, 14th, 15th.

Phood Fight is spot on re: PGspot.

I feel fairly confident the scenario that everyone thinks exists: 15th is either empty or Andre.

Competition for the 14th slot:

And the contestants are:

Frontrunner: Quindarry

Runner Up: TBD_vet_min - also fairly probable if a good player gets bought out.

Longshots: Quinones, Trevion, Gui Santos, loser of the PGspot competition (probably Mac).

2-way slots:

The losers of the 14th roster spot compete for the two 2-way slots:

At this point, I think this is most likely LQ and TW for the following reasons. QW will be on the 15-man. Mac likely won't want a 2-way and so will look for a 15-man spot elsewhere. The Dubs get to hold onto Gui's rights regardless of whether he gets signed to a 2-way. Thus, I would expect them to not use a 2-way slot on him, preferring to just stash him for the season and convert into a 2-way mid-season if he's tearing it up and they need a wing on the big club. I think there's a possibility that this is a darkhorse candidate. So many of our 2-ways the last couple years seemed to get spontaneously signed and weren't on my radar.

Expand full comment

I think Rollins is pretty much a lock for at least a 2-way but more likely a spot on the 15-man and unless I missed it, you left him out completely.

Expand full comment

I said Phood was spot on re: PG-spot, and he detailed the RR vs Mac competition, saying RR most likely is a lock.

Expand full comment

One added point on Trevion. Now that Klay is back, we have a lot of depth at guard, which means Steph and Klay can load manage easily. In recent years, its been a lot harder to load manage Draymond and last year Looney. This year, we have to get these guys time off in-season. Our success in the post-season depends heavily on both those guys being healthy and rested. Yes, we have Wiseman, JK & JMG, but you need that one extra guy to play 8-10 min when any of the main guys is out for the night. And again, I would prefer a young big who we can groom to play our way and could stick around a few years vs. grabbing an older ring chasing vet every year. Someone who can grow into a D Lee or JTA type of bench player, know the system, know your role, always ready, 100% team-player. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Expand full comment

Steph, Dray and Klay all played very to extremely light total minutes last season. A lot of that was because of Klay’s rehab, Dray’s back and Steph’s foot, but none of them were overworked.

Good Summary. At a guess, though, I am betting that Bob and Co. do not feel strongly that we need one more big man. Last year we had Loon, Bjeliça as our main "big men" with Dray and OPJ as the small ball 5s. This year we will have (as you already pointed out and fingers crossed about health and development) Loon and Wise at the really bigs, with Dray, JaMychal, and Kuminga when we go small ball. As one of the very early recruits in Trevion Army, I think he can grow to be a real contributor to this team, and I am sure the front office hopes he will too as they brought him in, but I am also pretty sure they think we are pretty good without him or any other "bigs" since we just won a ring with fewer options than we have now.

We've heard plenty of stories of other players leaning on the coaching staff during the offseason for their workouts: Steph and JP come to mind. The same way everyone else in the league does.

It’s a long season. The Warriors have an exceptional coaching staff and player driven culture of work. The young guys will all have some shortcomings at the beginning of the season that they’ll get better at as the season goes along. Like last year as Poole learned to improve his decision making and learned to pick his spots.

You can either worry about it or enjoy the process. I think it’ll be really fun to watch and see if these guys can round into contending team rotation worthy guys by the end of the season. It’s probably what I’m most excited to see next year.
