Post-game Party: Taking care of business…
It was actually pretty fun to watch too
Captain Jack (16 ♡):
Iguodala > Iguodala
crusty quips (15 ♡):
The Warriors have played 8 games so far which is roughly a 10th of the season. Some fun team stats:
- 3rd in points per game
- 3rd in rebounds per game
- 1st in assists per game
- 5th in steals per game
- 3rd in 3p%
- 9th in Off. rating
- 1st in Def. rating
- 1st in Net rating
- 4th in Asst/TO ratio
- 2nd in EFG%
- 2nd in TS%
- 4th in Opponent EFG%
- 5th in Opponent FTA%
- 2nd in Opponent OREB%
Yes it's early in the season and the Warriors strength of schedule has been among the friendliest in the league so far, but these numbers just confirm what we are seeing with our eyeballs - this is a deep, versatile team that is very good at a lot of things on both sides of the ball. Despite some weaknesses they can still work to improve on (20th in turnovers per game), they have been awesome.
kinbote (14 ♡):
One of those GPII dunks was so ferocious that my stream of the game froze. I just sat for a minute with GPII suspended in midair and enjoyed the moment.
Richard (14 ♡):
What a fun, satisfying game. Not even close to perfect execution and we won by 41. FORTY ONE. Team shot 40% on 3s (and shot 50 long range). 36-12 assist to turnover. That’s 3 ATTO. 85% free throw shooting. +7 on rebounds. Hmm, dam near perfect, probably not going to have many games better than this gem. OMG imagine if Curry lights things up a bit more.
Player of the day: The Third Quarter. Yes, the all-but-game ending, opponent will sapping, couch surfer hysterical giggle inducing, third quarter is back. Starring just about everyone making slick contributions. I miss you old friend! Is it a Jedi mind trick? These are not the baskets you’re looking for, go back to your guard post and resume napping! Moar third quarter blowouts please!
Game thread: Pelicans or PeliCAN'T?
Dub Nation ready for Friday fun as Golden State hosts New Orleans
BadlyBrowned (9 ♡):
Garbage time feels different when you've got two lottery picks playing lol
Captain Jack (8 ♡):
Wiggins with 16 points LOL! The man is so consistent at his craft
Preview: Golden State is a two-way team…
Curry and the Warriors are tough as nails
Goofus (17 ♡):
Anyone else concerned about the prospects of once again Steph playing with superstar teammate hurting his MVP chances? I mean don’t get me wrong, I’m glad Payton is on the team, but it’ll be frustrating if it keeps Curry from getting the recognition he deserves.
storytellinsabrina (12 ♡):
Daniel and Joe are both valued, contributing members to the DNHQ. In their best interests, and the interests of the DNHQ, they shouldn't be shamed for where they choose to seek paid employment. That's all I'm trying to say.
Explain One Play: Young Glove Gary Payton II…
Not bad for the 15th man
belilaugh (14 ♡):
Looks like the Warriors signed a center with the 15th spot after all.
stopnpop (5 ♡):
We have a stretch forward playing the 5 at the top of the key making a pass from the arc to our small power point forward under the basket? I give up, I don't know what basketball is anymore...
Truckeeman (4 ♡):
Enjoyed hearing Kerr give Draymond credit for calling him on sulking - and improving. OTOH, can you blame Kerr for sulking the way the Dubs looked in the first 5 minutes.
Still, GPII was fantastic, and it was so much fun watching mostly subs take over in the last half of the third quarter, and again after they took a few punches from the Hornets in the 4th.
mDuo13 (4 ♡):
This game was really fun to watch especially as the increasing disbelief of, "omg, did Payton just get another steal? He just got another steal" ratcheted up to bonkers levels. Between that and Poole dropping threes like his jersey number had a zero after it, there was a lot to be excited for. It only gets more infectious as the guys on the bench are really getting into it too. You love to see it.
Gary Payton II and Jordan Poole put LaMelo Ball in a box…
Aw man, if only the Warriors had drafted LaMelo they could be undefeated
hammystyle (20 ♡):
I could so care less about roster what-ifs right now, because I'm so enamored with the roster as is. I love the shooting and skill from Bjelly and Porter and how that fits into different lineups and matchups. I love how seamlessly Iguodala has returned, and how he looks better now then when he left. I love that Klay is on ice, getting ready to go, and I have even more confidence that with the makeup of the roster that re-integration should be pretty straightforward. I love that Wiseman has a pretty clearly defined role that I think he can be successful in for year 2, without the pressure to perform. I love that Moody and Kuminga have a bit of a freshman year on a great college team scenario for them.
But mainly - oooooh, I love that we've got spots for three bootstrap, NBA junkyard dogs like GP2, Damion, and JTA. Their tenacity is so great around the edges of the "core" talent. To have three of them in distinct roles. For them to set a standard that the rookies have to look at. Like Moody being, "I've got to be better than Damion Lee to get his minutes." That's a different type of development than just being handed minutes.
Sleepy Freud (15 ♡):
I’d dispute the premise that our greatest need is “another shot creator” who scores at Monta-esque efficiency (Ball .534 TS this season, .538 career).
If you’re giving me Giannis or Booker, sure.
The logic behind Wiseman pick was precisely that he might be Embiid-AD-Mobley special. If he doesn’t get there, ah well — turns out predicting the future is hard. But plenty of draft observers at the time spoke of him in those terms.
In any case, the LaMelo ship has sailed, so I don’t see point in whining about it, particularly if you weren’t lobbying for him at the time of the draft. Were you?
DFiB (14 ♡):
You're forgetting there are 29 other teams mostly playing some variation of ball handler P&R game. The Warriors still play the most beautiful brand of basketball, even if it's not the most beautiful incarnation of the brand ever seen.
Post game party thread: Gary Payton …
Warriors take over in the 2nd half, put Hornets away
belilaugh (17 ♡):
Went to the game:
-I think the Hornets probably gassed out some down the stretch while the Warriors were fresher but still, that was a dominant defensive performance. Ball was clearly getting frustrated that GP2 was guarding him and when he tried to bring in the pick and roll screen Draymond was guarding him. GP2/Draymond/Iguodala is a really nasty defensive combo. I remember Ball sucked in the first game last year against the Warriors and really turned it on in the rematch, I'm sure he'll study the GP2 film for next time lol.
-Bridges is a monster, predicting an All-Star appearance for him this year.
-Oubre looked very loose and happy before the game, dancing to the music and fucking around with his teammates. Saw him embrace Draymond but not sure he embraced anyone else (might have missed it). Also, dude was absolute trash tonight. I will be very interested to see how he performs in the rematch in a few weeks because he should be pretty motivated after the ass whooping he got. Was sad that the crowd was booing him on every possession, personally. He played hard and was a good soldier imo, but I guess that's the way it goes.
-OPJ at center is an interesting wrinkle. It's probably the correct move given how slow he is but are they going to be able to do that when Wiseman comes back and they give him those minutes?
-GP2 would make First Team All Defense if he played enough minutes. It's like they drafted Davion after all except GP2 has Bruce Brown-esque ability to invert gameplans by playing inside.
-GP2's dunk wasn't the best athletic feat of the game. Some dude was balancing a full-sized ladder on his chin after the first quarter, incredible stuff.
DraymondWantsItMore (17 ♡):
Love hearing Kerr unequivocally say that GP2 will be getting consistent minutes
rcknfn (13 ♡):
GPII stole the thunder on D but Dray was awesome today on D. No F-ing around from him.
Game Thread: Hornets 3rd ranked offense…
Another chance for Golden State to show they are elite
The Sword Of The Morning (10 ♡):
Key to this victory was that we survived the non-Poole, Steph only lineup.
DraymondWantsItMore (10 ♡):
Jordan Poole WW first half, GP2 WW second half.
Arash (8 ♡):
Yo, I'm going to be honest . . . I didn't expect for the Warriors to be such a physical team. Whether it be on defense or in rebounding, throughout this short season we've always been making shit uncomfortable for the other team.
I like it.
OGG Gurl (7 ♡):
GPII accepts your apology
Stefano Gelati (6 ♡):
Wait a moment… we won against a .700 WITHOUT CURRY?? Damn, I don’t know you: I BELIEVE. It’s the year.
vignette17 (6 ♡):
Strangely it was Jordan Poole's defense that was amazing in the second half (more steals than GP2!) and Payton's offense that was the back breaker.
The road less travelled: Warriors links…
Damion Lee expected back as Golden State hosts LaMelo Ball, Kelly Oubre
Abaddon (12 ♡):
"Porter [...] was asked what makes the Warriors' chemistry so much better than other teams around the NBA."
"It starts with Steph," Porter told reporters Tuesday. "Being around our leader just allows for you to be comfortable. It allows for you to be who you are and play to the best of your abilities and put you in the right position. Like I said, coach [Steve] Kerr has done a great job of implementing that to the new guys that come in. You know, play your game within our system."
Captain Jack (9 ♡):
Let's play the box defense against Oubre tonight
Goofus (7 ♡):
He may not be the best player of all time, but has there ever been a super-duper star who’s been a better teammate, a better ambassador for the team/sport while being so stress-free to coaches and management?
Picking Steph Curry might have been the single best move an NBA franchise has ever made.
Explain One Play: Warriors rookie Moses Moody…
Moody played complex defense, was in the wrong place for a lot of offense and somehow helped expand an 8 point lead to 18 points.
Eric Apricot (11 ♡):
I was impressed how honest Dray was about the bad % and the Tony Allen treatment getting into his head. Athletes are *supposed* to say, "I have a short memory, my confidence never wavers", so it's interesting to hear a real take.
g8tgod (9 ♡):
Don't worry. He'll get going eventually. Kerr just needs to be patient.
Arash (8 ♡):
This really puts into perspective how confusing the Warriors system might be to newer players.
belilaugh (9 ♡):
Especially ones who don't get real training camps like last season.
Explain One Play: Draymond Green's near triple dub…
Draymond attacking on O is good
Alex (12 ♡):
LOL... Lillard has gone from 7.3 FTAs per game last season to 3.7. Meanwhile Curry has gone from 6.3 FTA last season (on more shots than Lillard) to 5.7. Those in glass houses should probably just bow down to threesus.
Sleepy Freud (11 ♡):
“Something something” = Kuminga is 19. He dominated Franz head to head in when they matched up in summer league.
Let’s give him another (checks watch) five seconds or so before writing him off?
The thing about getting drafted high is there are like 50-60 intriguing players drafted behind you, and your team’s fans are always gonna whine anytime any of them has a good game.
Remind me again: whyyyyyyyy did we pass on Brandon Jennings?????
Backpack23 (11 ♡):
I might be the minority, but I’m not worried about Lacobs level of involvement. He wants butt on seats for the next 15-20 years and to do that he needs a competitive team. We all want to watch a competitive team for the next 15-20 years. Our goals are aligned here

It would be interesting to have an expert here (or elsewhere) do a list of "NBA Basketball IQ Rankings." Top 10, 100, 307, whatever. Would also be interesting to see what we non-experts think. It's hard to argue with Draymond being in the top ten. Iguodala might also be there. Steph -- I'm not sure. His other talents are so distracting, and he does make the bonehead style play too often. Around the league: Kyle "Slow-Mo" Anderson always seems to be doing right things. Mike Conley, CP3, Rubio ... I guess point guards makes sense. LeBron? Have only given this 5 minutes thought so would be curious to see what others think. PS I'm super ready to help out with a "Bottom 10 BBIQ in the League" list.
Jumping the gun a little, but looking at the Rockets schedule, they got the opposite of what the Warriors did. Even if some of the teams are under performing, Celtics, Mavericks, Jazz, Lakers (twice!), Suns, Nuggets with the last 4 of those games on the road is a brutal way to start the season. They may well be better than their record shows.
