Apparently it is a sure thing that Jimmy Butler is going to be traded to the Warriors because he went to a concert at Stanford and ate sushi n Palo Alto. I'm fairly certain that this is typical off season nonsense as to make the salaries work out the Warriors would have to waive all of CP3's salary and trade a package like Wiggins, Looney, Kuminga, Moody and the rights to Garuba to the Heat. Jimmy Butler is a *very* good player and assuming Klay comes back at Curry, Thompson, Butler, Green, TJD starting 5 would in theory be as good as anybody. However, would you really want to sell all of your depth and future players for 2 years of well over 30 stars? I just can't see them getting through a season more or less intact.

[Edit: It would also be a bet the MDJ is a more savy evaluator of talent than Pat Riley and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't take that bet]

I'm interested in what the trade price is for Jimmy Butler. He's been traded three times in his career and they haven't been for huge packages. There were some circumstances around those trades, but he was at least in his prime. Now he's 35 coming off a season he missed the playoffs due to injury?

I'm not sure it's this huge package of young players and picks.

So, my prediction for a boring, predictable, FINAL, held on GAME One. One assist for LUKA, 9 assists for the ENTIRE MAVS TEAM, as BOSTON ROLLS ON. MAVS shot a miserable 42-26-63! NOTHING like a DUBS FINAL! Where are all those false bball gods now...Excitement is SPLASH BROTHERS and STEPH CALLING a game SIX win and a 'SHIP in BOSTON'S DEN, and then, going out and getting it done! NBA FO need think twice when they hit on DRAY and take down the most-exciting team the game has....

OT congratulations to USA for beating Pakistan at the T20 cricket world cup! A HUGE upset.

But for some sort of bball comparison/perspective, since the highest form of cricket is Test cricket, a single game played over five (yes 5) days, and the short format is a "One-Dayer", T20 is shorter than even half a One-Dayer.

So if the 3pt competition is basically 5 racks of 5 balls (25 in total), beating someone in a T20 is like winning best out of 2 shots.

Even Draymond could beat Steph in that small sample.

T20 is definitely not that. More like a playin elimination game w/o any regular season preceding it.

Highest form = more like antiquated form.

There is definitely small sample size at work, but these upsets are still very rare.

I think a fairer comp is that a 20-overs One Day is like 1 complete basketball game and a T50 is like a 3 game series. Test cricket is its own thing with somewhat different rules.

Or in your analogy, 20 overs is like 120 shots (there are literally 6 plays per over) and 50 overs is like 300 shots. Is it easier for Dray to beat Steph in a 120 shot shootout than a 300 shot shootout? Definitely. But still would be a very surprising outcome.

If we compare T20 with Test cricket from a purely shots/plays/balls POV

Test cricket can go up to around 3000.

T20 around 300 (allowing for extra deliveries and Super Over (which is how USA won))

Like I said, "HUGE" win/upseat (I didn't believe it when I first heard it), but as a cricket purest I wanted to try and provide some info/perspective.

Maybe a better comp is winning a game of baseball in a One Innings game.

The chance of upsets depends on variance, and variance doesn't scale linearly. For example, a single basketball play can be a coin flip, a single NBA game (with a couple hundred plays) is a bit more skewed towards the better team, but a 7 game series almost always goes to the better team.

So in that sense, the variance in a T20 game really lines up best with a normal basketball game, and Test cricket probably with something like a 5 game series.

Mavs: 7 total assists with under 5 minutes left. That doesn’t seem good.

I watched two minutes, and it was enough for me.

Boston has been there before, and is just playing basketball.

Dallas hasn’t been there before and is playing tight.

Teams are still figuring each other out, figuring out player tendencies & moves, figuring out how the coaches are defending them…

Seems much more “typical game one” than any referendum on the outcome of the series.

Yeah it doesn't indicate how the series will go. If you saw those two minutes in the 1st quarter, that was the big blowout. After that the Celtics lost a chunk of that lead but built it back enough to win comfortably. Both teams can play better though. Kyrie isn't going to be held to 12 points and 0-5 from 3 often. Luka only had 1 assist; that's not going to happen often either. Now the initial adjustments begin.

Celtics have 5 guys that’s capable of realistically going off for 20 on any given night while the Mavs might only have 3 at best. Might be the difference

Mavs were down 8 at one point, but the Celtics made a run to put themselves up 20.
