FOLKS, sorry I accidentally deleted all the votes in this Group C poll. Could you do me the favor of re-voting?

(It turns out if you change the poll to add an option, like for instance, "I don't know", it throws out all your poll results. What idiotic design. Thank you, Substack, thank you.)

Is it fair to say Mogbo profiles a little similarly to Usman Garuba? I’d have like to see what Usman could do, but given that he never really saw meaningful minutes, perhaps that speaks to the awkward fit?

Interesting comp. I believe physically they are very close in dimensions. Garuba does have a decent 3 point shot and Mogbo reportedly has no jumper at all. Mogbo might be more of a offensive organizer than Garuba?

Ah, that’s helpful. Thanks!

Btw, I don’t always vote in these polls (just because I tend not to form very strong opinions), but I always read and enjoy them a lot. Thanks so much for putting in the work!

((

According to Jake Fisher at yahoo sports:

“League executives and cap strategists are projecting Hartenstein will be able to draw at least $80 million, and perhaps upward of $100 million, from a team hoping to steal Hartenstein from Madison Square Garden.”

So Knick fans if we can’t maintain Hartenstein and have to go with Mitch who just came off of ankle surgery are we okay with this?

That seems like a lot. Who’s got cap space that would go 4/100 fora C?

The Knicks can offer 4/72. He’d be a nice fit on the Thunder but it’s not clear whether they even want a C.

Expand full comment

does San Antonio want to pair Wemby with a true center?

Expand full comment

Maybe. I’d just keep Wemby at C

Expand full comment

I’d rather have him than Klay.

Expand full comment

Clearly. But letting Klay walk would free up $0.00 to sign Hartenstein.

Expand full comment

Letting Klay walk and waiving CP3 would though, to be fair.

From what I can tell, I'm not even sure that gets you below the cap line, TBH (it's close ... we'd still be at ~$140 mil). But, certainly not by enough to make Hartenstein an offer.

I think you'd also need to trade Wiggs into cap space, and renounce Loon to get enough below to make a reasonable offer.

It's also really hard to see Hartenstein choosing us among a bunch of roughly equivalent deals. Our non-monetary incentive has been the chance to play with Steph, but that's much less of a draw now, and Hartenstein would be looking at possibly playing a couple of years on a rebuilding team.

Expand full comment

Now we're trading Klay, CP3, Wiggins, and Loon for Hartenstein? I mean, sheesh guys!

Expand full comment

I’d still do it, probably.

Plus Klay has zero incentive to agree to a sign-and-trade unless we sign him for a bigger salary than he can get on the open market. Not likely.

Expand full comment

I'm just saying that's what it would take. I don't like it either.

Personally, I'd like to keep both Loon and Wiggs for next season. Doubt I get my wish, though.

Expand full comment

LOL You think he may get some PT?....

Expand full comment

Hartenstein? If we signed him, my guess is he'd be our starting center, TJD would be the backup, and we'd buy out Loon and save $5M on his deal.

Expand full comment

Are you sure KERR would play him.....lol

Oh yeah. MDJ would make sure of that before making the deal.

#Spencer looks like he'd fit well with both a Steph Dray & Kuminga (current best players) group or a BP, Moody, Kuminga, TJD (best young players) group. Without a shot, I can't see Mogbo being a good fit alongside any 2 of Dray, Kuminga or TJD.

#Mogbo

My brain said Spencer... but something else in me likes the undersized, non-shooter more.

Expand full comment

Not an exciting group. Mogbo is interesting but no fit here.

Went with Spencer. He could be like a Dellavadova type

Any news if Lester is signed for next year? I assumed they tacked on another cheap year when they converted his contract, but BBall Ref doesn't seem to think so.

He is a RFA (if Warriors give a 2.1m QO), not under contract yet for next year

[Wojnarowski] ESPN Sources with @DraftExpress: The New Orleans Pelicans are planning to defer the Los Angeles Lakers’ first-round pick until 2025, clearing the way for LA to select 17th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft. Pick conditions were part of the Anthony Davis trade in 2019.

Are LA gonna do the funny?

So they like next year’s draft more and/or think the Lakers will do worse next year.

I think that screws the Lakers plans to potentially trade picks for a big time player

For the second unit, we need knock-down shooters more than anything else besides a defensively competent stretch big. I am fascinated by Mogbo, would really like to see him take the two-way vacated by Garuba as a UDFA.

As much as I appreciate Beekman’s defense, I’ve ultimately got to go with #spencer for the shooting. Beekman’s struggles shooting given his age are pretty alarming for me.

Loved watching Spencer do it all in the tournament.

Was thinking last March and doubly so this March that the Warriors should bring in every UCONN player that gets a good recommendation from their coaches because that team understands movement for the purpose of creating good shots. None of their players will pop as “NBA” prospects, they don’t try to win 1v1 battles, but they will help Curry and Kerr win more titles because they get the what and why of player and ball movement.

I'm not wowed by any of these guys, so give me the guy that can shoot and give effort on defense even if he is geriatric and can't jump out of the gym.
