Just have to point out that Jones didn't end up qualifying for the stats listed in that tweet

#TWELVE Colby, the defensive dawg, hands down.

I'm voting for Jones, but I'm a bit torn. It's hard to imagine Jones ever being much more than a glue guy, but you could definitely imagine everything breaking right for Sensabaugh and him really becoming quite the player. Glue guys are super valuable, but there's definitely the risk that Jones isn't quite good enough at anything to make it, and I'm perpetually afraid of drafting another Jacob Evans.

Jones for his all-around game but I can't say I'm happy with that FT %, and he has work to do on his shooting. Still, I think his passing, D, and team-first approach will work for the Dubs better than a scorer who only reluctantly passes and whose D is suspect to say the least.

I guess the whole horrible illness didn’t help his progress…

Looks like the Golden State Warriors will not be extending a qualifying offer to retain restricted free agent rights to Nico Mannion for a third straight summer and he will get a Summer League opportunity with the Bucks instead to try to impress his way into an NBA roster.

Don’t see him moving past Curry, Poole, Jerome, Rollins or Santos on the organizational depth chart, I guess.

I live in the city where Nico is playing. Bologna. He is not a NBA point guard. Period. Maybe he will become a good Euroleague PG. Now he is not even in the starting five of a team who was 13 out of 18 in Euroleague Regular Season, and is on the bench even in Italian National Team.

Malcolm Brogdon is listed as questionable for Game 6 at Miami with his right forearm soreness. As of last night, the expectation was for him to play, per sources.

Brogdon is officially listed as having a right forearm strain. We reported before Game 5 on how he is playing through a partial tear to the tendon leading from his elbow into his forearm

Another rule experiment:

The NBA may tweak the coach's challenge process (give a coach a second challenge if the first is successful).

They should let coaches have as many challenges as they want, as long as they keep being right, and the calls get overturned. Then, if a coach ends up getting 3, 4, 5 calls overturned because of that, demote the refs to the g league until they learn how to do their jobs.

This would probably lead to refs simply swallowing their whistles unless they are absolutely positive they saw a foul. Which would make the game better for everybody.

Another good one... but, as much as I love Kerr, it's expanding a tool that he uses way worse than other coaches. Really think Kerr needs to do a better job of using for obvious wins instead of whatever @#%@^ing logic he currently applies...

Expand full comment

He often uses it as a way of supporting his players. And certain players (Klay is especially bad) just don't understand why sometimes they are called for a valid foul.

Every coach defers to their staff in the moment. The coach leads the staff in deciding their approach, and then certain members of the staff are assigned to review the replay and decide to challenge/not challenge based on the pre decided criteria. Or, Klay circles his finger when he thinks he didn't foul the shooter, and Kerr just backs him up... and the refs upgrade it to a landing spot flagrant.

That's a good area to invest some money to gain a competitive advantage in especially now you can swing two plays in one game.

#TWELVE. Jones sounds like an ideal Warriors basketball player. Also never hurts when a player’s Got That Dawg In Him™️ a la Jimmy Butler.

Could be a good option to replace Donte after he gets the bag, minus the three point shooting.

#TWELVE. Possibly the most exciting (to me) prospect we have seen in this draft tourney. I'd so much rather have the next Sidney Moncrief (but bigger!) than the next TJ Warren. Jones's defensive instincts are really impressive, and we all know what wins championships.

Someone once said the best defense is a good offense. And, great offense beats great defense. You need both but offense wins out. Drafting someone with poor defense is not going to go over well with the Dubs.

I really like Sensabaugh's shooting upside. His FT%, 3P%, and FG% on long midrange point to someone who will eventually be able to shoot in the NBA. I haven't seen his wingspan but at 6'6 I see a Joe Harris type upside. With Jones, I get very jack of all trades, master of none vibes. Which is great to have but also might mean he might have no above average skills when he plays against the better athletes and players at the NBA level.

I seem to be bucking the DNHQ trend, but #FIVE.

Draft workout for the Warriors in SF today

*Julian Strawther (Gonzaga)

*Coleman Hawkins (Illinois)

*Trayce Jackson-Davis (Indiana)

*Kendric Davis (Memphis)

*Craig Porter Jr. (Wichita State)

*Caleb Daniels (Villanova)

Coleman Hawkins is destined to play for the Jazz. They should get him automatically, like when they used to have territorial picks.

I quite like the sound of Jones, actually, though I also think I probably tend to overrate players with his profile, even at the NBA level: Role player with a broad array of skills, but not clear which, if any, will scale to higher usage and/or competition level... Still, I'll take him in this matchup and would have little trouble talking myself into him on draft night.

Don't want either but Sensabaugh is a better prospect in general imo. I guess given the Warrior situation there is a scenario where trading down and taking Jones makes sense whereas there's not really a scenario where Sensabaugh makes sense on the roster despite his really impressive scoring ability. But I'd rather draft Jaquez or TJD or Murray in terms of the more experienced candidates. To be fair I also overlooked Andrew Nembhard and then he turned out to be solid, maybe I'm doing it again.

#TWELVE I guess.

Where do you put him though? Believe me, I want him to kill as much as you do. He’s not gonna be able to post up like he did in college though, and I don’t know if he is truly a three level scorer. He’s a dog on defense though, that’s for damn sure. That may be enough to give him a long and productive career.

I could actually see him going to Memphis. Eww, I feel dirty for saying that

Expand full comment

What do you think is holding him back from being a Jae Crowder in the NBA? A few percentage points on his three and like 10 pounds of muscle? If you throw out his junior season where he shot 27% from three playing on two sprained ankles (and got surgery right after the season) he shot 34% from three in college. The volume wasn't the highest but I don't know, like John Hollinger (who ranked Jaquez 16th in this draft) said, "It’s not like his shot is broken now; it just hasn’t been something he’s needed". FT% is solid, his post play and finishing through contact and all that suggests he has touch. Also he had a 27% usage this past season when he shot 32% from three. In 2021 he had an 18% usage and shot 39% from three, so maybe some of it was not having the legs. Is it really that wild of a bet that Jaquez can improve a bit as a shooter?

The utility of the iso/post up ability is that if he can become that Crowder-esque 3 and D player, are you going to try to hide Ja Morant or Luka Doncic on him in a playoff series? I don't think Jaquez can consistently score on lengthy wings in the NBA but he's a tough guy to try to hide a guard on imo, and that puts stress on an opposing roster because those lengthy wings are needed to guard your top options. Plus he rebounds well, makes good decisions, handles the ball, and passes well. A well-rounded 3 and D type is a player any good team can use. I do think he also might struggle in 1-on-1 defense but I think he'll be a really good team defender. The guys who make it as undersized 4s in the NBA are the guys who compete really hard, and he does so that might still be a path to him if he doesn't develop enough as a shooter to play the 3.

I think Trayce Jackson-Davis might be a bit "readier to plug in" but I think he caps out as a backup big man. Whereas I think Jaquez could stick in the league as a starter for awhile like Crowder if he pans out.

But maybe it's just because I'm biased lol.
