The Miami Heat superteam (don’t tell LeBron James it was a superteam) and the Golden State Warriors Hamptons 5 squad basically broke basketball brains and hearts around the planet. That much youthful, future Hall-of-Fame talent cobbled together in the chase for championships pissed off a lot of fans and broke the wills of many players.
LeBron and Chris Bosh joined Dwyane Wade in Miami to overthrow the NBA in a brash display of player autonomy and best friends uniting, breaking the “we are rivals and hate each other” premise to the chagrin of frustrated observers.
And when Kevin Durant abandoned the elite Oklahoma City Thunder squad he helped raise from obscurity to join the 73-win Warriors who had just knocked his squad off in a fierce seven games Western Conference series, it was simultaneous called “the weakest move from a superstar ever” and cemented an unstoppable dynasty.
But after what we just witnessed to start the 2024 playoffs…it might be time to revisit this superteam idea now that these future hall-of-fame guys are looking very very beatable and old. KD and LeBron didn’t make it out of the first round, while Stephen Curry’s Dubs didn’t even make the playoffs.
Okay hear me out. Bron Bron and the Slim Reaper join the Dubs on veteran minimum contracts and lash back out against the younger, more dominant teams. RAGE AGAINST THE DYING LIGHT OG’S!
Also playoff basketball rages on tonight. Please discuss!
New thread coming at noon.
A like just for the OGS.....BUT, Daniel, we won progressively fewer games every year KD was with us....in fact, the ''superteam'' was the one with 73 wins and HOMEGROWN 4 starters oF STEPH/KLAY/HB/DRAY & 2, almost-homegrown BOGUT/ANDRE 5th and 6th men....lol...just saying...no guarantee we win enough to make the p-offs with those OGs...in fact, I DOUBT they will get through a full season without major injury time-lost....
