I laughed the first time I heard that. But when it was happening in game 2, I got kind of mad. It's shocking that they haven't learned to say the guy's name.
And now it's been repeated so many times that my mind's first response is to recognize it as a proper pronunciation, and I have to consciously correct myself... absolutely infuriating. Also incredible that nobody talked to him during halftime of the first game, let alone at any later point...
I wouldn't be surprised if Emmanuel is traded for a piece that fits the Warriors a lot more. While older than Poole, his contract is a lot smaller in length and therefore more palatable.
I would love to do a trade with the Jazz for Jordan Clarkson and Kelly Olynk. Clarkson can be our off the bench microwave scorer (he has lots of experience with that) while Olynk can provide spacing for Dray/Loon/Kuminga giving us a big body. Emmanuel is a better individual player than both of them, but in terms of fit + giving us more depth in terms of roster it wouldn't be a bad move.
You mean his history, where he's averaged 36.5 minutes per game in the playoffs for his career, with 20pt/4.5r/8.3a averages on 48.4%/37.3%/85.4% shooting splits?
I know there's been a lot of antipathy towards Paul over the years, from myself included, but this narrative is ridiculous and deserves more pushback than it's gotten here. Like, breaking news, a small, physical guard who's played a ton of minutes over almost two decades' worth of NBA regular seasons and postseasons has had some injuries. He's played through most of them, even in his mid/late thirties, which was probably never in his best interest but was in the best interest of his team.
Would we all like to have fewer concerns about, say, his hamstring being balky? Yeah, sure. But in the Suns' Finals run, for example, he played through a shoulder contusion in R1 G1, didn't miss any time despite re-aggravating it in game 5, missed two games in the WCF with Covid-19, then played through partially torn ligaments in his left hand in the NBA Finals, which required surgery after the season ended. That was as a 35 year-old.
If you used actual sources, you might have noticed that he's been generally excellent in the playoffs, generally available albeit banged up at times, and that he profiles pretty nicely as someone who will really benefit from not having to play heavy minutes as the starting point guard.
He has played well in the playoffs, though last year he had a major dropoff in scoring.
The issue is: can he get through an entire playoffs without a playoff-ending injury?
This year is a grand experiment to see if his injuries are preventable by better minutes management, or age-related, and beyond helping.
I would be lying if I said I know, but I'll feel a lot better about our PG rotation for the playoffs if we are able to keep Lester and sign him to a main roster contract. He's got enough game that he can help us if Paul is out. And I doubt we would lose much (if anything) on the defensive side.
Since CP3 has never come off the bench, there's no data to support your argument that he's guaranteed to get injured after coming off the bench on games taking place on the 3rd Wednesday of the month after Steph had a <40% 3P% while Klay had a >50% 3P%, and Dray had at least 5 rebounds in every game...
It feels like they’re traumatized by that and have gone in the complete opposite direction. And/or they can’t find any bigs who fit their desired standards
This Saric situation seems quite awkward. If there's a team Saric would rather play for under certain circumstances (ie Heat if they get Dame), then Warriors should just pivot to the next option. Holding on hope to be someone's second choice doesn't seem like a good play. If it's Saric saying I want a few days to see if I can get a bigger contract, that is more understandable.
I don't expect it, but what are the a Christian Wood at minimum chances? He has flaws, but at minimum would be an amazing get. At this point how many teams left can offer him more than that?
No theyre not holding out hope. I posted some tweets in regards to this earlier but theyre kicking the tires on pretty much any decent big remaining but theyve been shunned at every turn. Last two they were connected to were Alex Len and Mason Plumlee
Yeah of course. My point wasn’t that the Warriors somehow failed, its that the fanbase thinks theyre not prioritizing signing a big man and they are. Theyve been attached to almost every big man that has signed elsewhere that presumably where within their price range
Right but Len and Plumlee are still fairly in-demand guys, not like the true bottom of the barrel G league scrounging that could happen if Saric is not interested.
Recently, several nba vets have shared the opinion that they don't think a lot of their fellows enjoy basketball. It's just a job. So given similar money, they might opt for lifestyle preferences - hence LA and Miami.
Denver has the same problem that Warriors have had for years. If your team has a lot of amazing guys at every position, that's not an ideal free agent destination. "Ring chasers" don't want to just ride the pine for the ring, they want to contribute.
No im good on him. All im saying is Philly just signed Mo Bamba. The whole notion is that players dont want to come to Warriors because they’ll have a limited role here BUT some players are signing to be a 3rd or 4th string center on other clubs. We need a backup C. I get Draymond plays C too but hes also the starting PF
That’s the confusing thing for me when they choose to be 3rd or 4th string backups… on our team they’d be a significant backup since Looney and Green can’t cover that many minutes at center
I mean we don't know the nature of the negotiations, the Warriors might be telling them they intend to put them behind Saric in the rotation if he signs.
I think that notion is real -- Warriors have a pretty solid 7-8 guys in place, so anyone joining may get very limited playing time. For Montrez in particular though, I think it may have been more that other teams (including the Warriors) weren't interested. Personally I'd be at least a little interested in seeing Warrior Montrez, but I'll let wiser minds decide.
Warriors seem to be targetting the right guys. Can’t blame them if they strike out. I would absolutely take Alex Len and Plumley on this squad. In the minority but id pass on Saric yet take a shot on Kaminsky. Kaminsky has a higher def rating but has been a solid team defender throughout his career. Id feel comfortable pairing him next to a solid Poa defender in Kuminga
I don't know - he's looking really good, but teams swooping away 2-way guys onto their regular roster just doesn't happen that often. But I agree there's a chance. If the choice comes down to putting him on the 15-man or losing him to another team, I think they should absolutely choose the former.
I thought they still have his draft rights for this upcoming year? I didn't find a definitive answer with a cursory google search unfortunately, so I'm very curious at this point.
Great listen alert! Jason Timpf’s take on the Warriors offseason is pretty thorough. He’s very bullish on everyone we got. https://youtu.be/2LvcOCbLcb8

All of these mentions of Chris Paul in the comments hurt my soul . . . so I propose an alternative!!
From now on, we at DNHQ can all collectively pretend that we've signed an wily veteran named Emmanuel (his middle name) who bears an unfortunate striking resemblance to Chris "The Antichrist" Paul.
I never prepared for this moment because I didn’t think it made sense on any level. Behind KD this is probably the transaction that surprised me the most during the Steph era.

Holy Toledo, that is a long contract for a guy that played no pro basketball. Maybe DNHQ was right after all to pick Liddell (and Jalen Williams) in the 2021 Draft Tourney.
I view this as them doing right by him. This is probably roughly the contract he would’ve signed if he had torn his ACL in training camp instead of summer league.
I think the new CBA even adjusted this to allow for rookie contracts to be made official before summer league to mitigate the downside risk for players—they don’t want folks sitting out of summer league because their contract isn’t official for 5 more days.
Edit: the new CBA has the second round pick exception, which allows teams to sign players to deals immediately, but the deals won’t show up on the cap sheet until after July 31st. This allows players to get security before summer league without being delayed due to cap concerns etc.

It does seem ludicrous. But maybe they don't trust that a true big will get off the bench for GS when it matters. They might be right.

PHI did us a favor there. Harrell was not a good solution for us.

Nah, we got GP2. Small is All.

That frontcourt rebounding might get nasty
Besides Quinones, anyone have any ideas about who else might be interesting as the other two 2-way players? Maybe Gui
I think there’s a good chance Lester ends up on the 15-man
I don't know - he's looking really good, but teams swooping away 2-way guys onto their regular roster just doesn't happen that often. But I agree there's a chance. If the choice comes down to putting him on the 15-man or losing him to another team, I think they should absolutely choose the former.
Ty just got swooped, so I’m nervous about LQ. (Although Ty has more pedigree and NBA experience)
Gui’s a safe bet because I think we lose his draft rights if we don't give him a contract this year, and he’s shown enough to be worth a shot.
I thought they still have his draft rights for this upcoming year? I didn't find a definitive answer with a cursory google search unfortunately, so I'm very curious at this point.
