Nice synergy! Mid-nineties, post-Webber malaise was a great time for poor teenagers to scrounge up cheap nosebleeds at the pre-remodel Colosseum Arena. Take whoever had the crappiest car, and cheapest beer. Park behind the Sherman-Williams store to avoid parking fee and hope for the best.
Sometime in that era(I think 96) I got invited to see The Specials with a nice young lady at the relatively newly reopened Fillmore. The opener was Buck O Nine from San Diego, and second act was the one and only Skankin’ Pickle. The show kicked ass and stands out through the haze of ancient teenage memory. Thanks Mike!
I'd love to see Mike's take on this year, what with the talk about what he liked about the '16 team and didn't like about picking up Durant, and preferring home grown talent and great veteran finds. He's always been an interesting dude on a variety of levels.
I had never heard of Skankin' Pickle before but this interview was great. Informed opinions, long history, big heart. Even where I don't agree with him, I can't disrespect how he approaches things. Love how you talk about basketball but not strictly basketball. As a wise coworker of mine put it, you have to be a whole person. And a whole person is not just one interest, not just one thing. Even guys who dedicate their lives to something, Klay Thompson fucking *lives* for basketball but he has his boat, he has Rocco, he just loves a good time. Steph is such a family man, plus he golfs, etc. And that's good, it's healthy. We love guys more for it.
I actually kind of love Korean potato salad though? That shit's just good. I feel like you have to judge a Korean restaurant by the sides. If they only have like 3 sides and the kimchi is basic as hell? Come on. Gimme the japchae, the radishes, the pickles, the fish cakes, the random broccoli thing, and quality kimchi. THAT is the good shit. Like Bob Sang restaurant in Fremont. They have the goods.
What? No love for Terry Teagle (couldn't hit a shot unless he had like 4 guys draped all over him. I used to joke the Warriors should send one of their own guys to defend him and he'd never miss a shot)?
Oh man, Skankin Pickle. Now you're talkin my language. First saw them at a free set they played in the De Anza College quad in '89-90. Even have a signed copy of their demo tape right here. Such great times for music in the bay area.
This is some awesome content right here. I saw Skankin Pickle at a co-op housing place in Berkeley in the 90s when Jerry Brown was going around to small get-togethers pumping up his governor candidacy. Fun times.

Another vote for a follow up interview. This was great. Love the Purvis Short knowledge...

A crossover I didn't know I needed. Nice!
