The more I consider the ranking formula, the less I like it. If this is supposed to be all-time NBA players, all that should matter are NBA and arguably ABA (because they merged) performances. The rest is off topic. I think that will change some of the outcomes.
[Burke] Mike Dunleavy told me Trayce Jackson Davis grew an inch in the offseason, and TDJ said he was surprised grew. He knew something was up when his knees got achy. He said he’s fine, nothing a little Tylenol and ice packs can’t handle.
1. The extent to which players have been coached to provide canned and inconsequential responses that tell us little to nothing about how the season will actually transpire.
I liked hearing the new guys’ voices! But, yeah, a lot of sportsball non-answers and softball questions. My favorite was the reporter trying to turn JK’s dogs into the next “cool pets”, lol
Oh of course, and perhaps this is what I (and others) enjoy about Media Day: the funny little canned responses from players, and the moments when personality or lapses in PR training emerge. That, alongside the enjoyment of poking fun at the theater of it all!
The question was ‘bush league’ and the response was combative, defensive and concerning.
The fact that Draymond let his emotions get the best of him during media day (rather than a simple response and ‘next question’) doesn’t bode well for the season.
But of course, it might not ‘bode’ at all. Just a bad look for all involved.
Yeah and you could really tell that it was getting under Draymond’s skin. You could actually see Draymond anxiously scratching his shoulder and arm with greater intensity as the reporter kept pushing.
Still, the initial question was (and is) salient: Can we expect Draymond to avoid behaviors that lead to suspensions? Most of Dub Nation has been pondering the same question, as Draymond’s (in)ability to stay on the court last season was a significant factor impacting the Warrior’s win/loss record and eventual descent into a doomed Play-In game.
I, for one, would like to hear Draymond’s honest self-appraisal in response to this question, though he likely cannot predict his own future.
> I, for one, would like to hear Draymond’s honest self-appraisal in response to this question, though he likely cannot predict his own future.
He's given this honesty. Many times. 9 months ago. On record in pressers to many reporters. How many times do you need him to say the same thing? To my knowledge, he hasn't gone and punched anyone since then, so there's no new story there. The reporter today was just regurgitating an old journalistic bent... after Dray's shown that he's not repeated that type of behavior for almost a whole year. There's just no there there right now. Ask the question once, fine... whatever... stupid question, but you do you. Ask again? OK, now I think you're being annoying AF, and I can only imagine how tiresome it is for Dray. Move. On. If Dray starts acting up again, ok, bring it up with fresh data.
When you have a track record of not following through, which Dray has given his suspension history, it's natural to be asked multiple times. The response reflects his ability to keep cool when something irritates him.
Starting to warm up to the Steph-Melton-Kuminga-Wiggs-Anderson starting 5 someone postulated here a few days ago. Shades of Holiday-White-Brown-Tatum-Horford?
As good as that lineup looks, I can’t picture a world where Dray goes to the bench for another small 5. I can only imagine an injury, or Kuminga taking a mega level-up to pry the starting 4 spot from him while Kerr sticks to historic want and starts as big as possible at the 5.
If it doesn't have Dray in it then it's not the starting lineup (Kerr has already stated he doesn't know the other 3 starters outside of Steph and Dray)
Getting an irrationally good feeling about this season (21-22 like) after listening to these interviews. Having a close knit group of guys is so underrated when it comes to being a good team and I think they will bond very nicely in Hawaii
I was reading the transcript on sfgate of Scott Ostler being overly delicate questioning Draymond. Apparently just asking Draymond straight out if he thought his behavior had changed enough to avoid getting suspended this season was too much of a challenge for Ostler.
I think Dray is way too tired of dealing with that kind of question… it’s been answered many months ago. Is there anything new to discuss there, or is Ostler just trying to bring back spicy topic for an article narrative? I think the latter.
Yes, I had the same reaction. And he had a very good defense mechanism against it all. But by the end of the interview, I realized it was really much more meaningful to ask Draymond to philosophies about basketball than to try to get into his private life.
A few days ago, I think Beli already posted some recent videos of Kyle shooting! It looks... stroke looks maybe a little smoother and definitely still slow, haha
14 available media day interviews including Post and everybody on the regular roster execpt Gui, but not Spencer or Beekman. Is Gui still out of country or something? Or is there something worth reading into Gui on a non-guaranteed contract and not having a media day interview?
Spoiler alert: looks like we have a ranking from the future: All-time NBA Players #33 - #26. Only NBA Finalists here (with one exception). [Page not found]
Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but the most recent Thinking Basketball episode (‘Best Teams of the Pace & Space Era, part II’) contains some pretty fun Warriors stuff, including a very gratifying defense of the 2016 team. Among my favorite tidbits: In regular season games where all four of Steph, Klay, Draymond, and Andre were available, that team went 56-4. Oh, and their record against the other top-10 teams in the league? 23-2. Lol.
Before the expansion draft, what will the VS have to trade? They won’t have any players. So they can only trade money? Unless they can select the one free agent prior to the draft presumably they could trade this person.
And what about the possibility of getting a player from another country?
Still waiting to hear what slot they'll get in the draft. I've heard this will probably after the lottery teams, so that would be pick 5, which seems low to me. My suggestion would be to throw them in the lottery with the other 4 teams, so they could get anywhere from 1 to 5.
Now that the rules are out, it’s possible to look at some potential candidates for the Valkyries. I’m gonna call them the VS. If you look at the seventh place on a lot of the teams, there are some decent players. That’s no guarantee that these players will go unprotected, but here are some of the possibly unprotected players. N. Sabally, H. Jones, M. Hines-Allen, E. Wheeler, A. Clark, K. Samuelson, N. Collier, B. Jones, M. Russell. (Problem at Center). No doubt there are others I don’t recognize or can’t evaluate in anyway whatsoever. And I assume that Joe is out shopping on the continent right now:-))
If you look at the team lineups and correlate with with your own person experience, maybe you can see some other/better players the VS could have. Interested to know who they might be.

What has he been eating?
Spinach!
That’s shocking at his age. But Kerith is a good reporter, so I trust it.

Eh? So he a legit 6'10" now

what in tarnation
WTF. Did his wingspan grow too????
So much to glean from Media Day appearances!

2. And…ummm?

Dang KT11... just come back to the bay already.

Just listened too half of Dray's response to fans being worried about him cause that's all I could take.
He deserves a Jordan Poole level trash talk for that terrible response. Just say your gonna do whatever it takes to stay on the court. Next question.
I thought the questioning was bush league and Dray gave it the response it deserved.
Next question.
Question, did you think the question was actual concern for his well being or implied staying on the court?
As a fan, I am concerned with him staying on the court and took that to be the meaning of the question.
Either way, it's as golden dagger says, it's about emotional maturity in deflecting the question to love on.
Irony of me complaining so will stop here 😂
> did you think the question was actual concern for his well being or implied staying on the court?
No, it didn’t, genuinely.
It only became mildly combative after the question asked dug in 5 times to try to get a quote for their article. Next question.

I think Draymond had the most interesting comments on why the 21-22 season was a success. And how this season could be similar.
I was reading the transcript on sfgate of Scott Ostler being overly delicate questioning Draymond. Apparently just asking Draymond straight out if he thought his behavior had changed enough to avoid getting suspended this season was too much of a challenge for Ostler.

Podz with the: "You know, you guys'll be surprised, but Kyle Anderson. Jump shot looks pretty good."
Straight into my veins...
Can’t wait for the slow-motion replays and highlights of Kyle Anderson’s shooting rebirth with the Warriors.
Oh wait, those replays and highlights aren’t in slo-motion at all!
A few days ago, I think Beli already posted some recent videos of Kyle shooting! It looks... stroke looks maybe a little smoother and definitely still slow, haha

I wouldn’t overthink it… after all, in 2023, they let Rudy Gay do interviews before cutting him a few days later.
Overthinking is what we do ... or we wouldn't be here. :)
I have always been more of an underthinker.
Good point, lol

OMG thanks! The regular Warriors page links have not been working for me today...
Spoiler alert: looks like we have a ranking from the future: All-time NBA Players #33 - #26. Only NBA Finalists here (with one exception). [Page not found]
I'm guessing Carmelo is the exception? Long career, all-star appearances, scoring records in regular season and playoffs... gold medals.
That’s a good guess!
haha, I checked whether the title gave anything away before I pre-posted that...
People are welcome to guess which non-NBA-Finalists are left...

Expansion draft will happen December 6th on ESPN.
Each WNBA team can protect 6 players.
The V's may make pre-expansion draft trades.
The V's can only select one player set to become a 2024 free agent.

Does this mean any UFA, even though she is 1- 6 on a team?
So if Kelsey Plum or Jonquel Jones were a free agent, the VS could. select her without encountering any competition?
There are a lot of really good UFA’s out there, although I don’t know which ones have been already claimed by their teams.

"N. Collier"
DPOY being left unprotected would be SOMETHING. I would love, love, LOVE to have her though.
If you look at the team lineups and correlate with with your own person experience, maybe you can see some other/better players the VS could have. Interested to know who they might be.
Just going by lineups. I doubt she will be available, also.

Buddy Hield, Wiggins, Looney, GPII Interviews | 2024 Warriors Media Day
The cadence of Buddy's speech makes me smile, haha.
Kuminga looks like the Congolese Slim Shady
Imagine referencing some goofy gimmick sideshow act rather than Frank Ocean’s ‘Blonde’ album when seeing Kuminga’s bleach-blond coiffure.
Follow the innovators, not the imitators
Are you suggesting Eminem was an…’innovator’?
Or worse, that Frank Ocean is anything but?
Did you find a feed?!?!
No although a lot of the interviews are being posted here already:

Presumably there's a video version on YouTube as well of all of these, I just saw the classic media day picture of Kuminga dribbling
