My son played under 14 Basketball with the Magic pick - Tristan da Silva - here in Munich. Cool! I still remember Tristan as a kid - and now he is a 6.9 NBA player. My son has quit playing organized basketball at around 17 years, so no moving to the US as a NBA mom for me. 😜

I expected Carlton to get invited to the big dance. It's not unusual for someone with that talent. :)

Lolz. My friends and I used to think Billy Owens looked like Carlton (and call him Carlton),

Ha, I can see it.

In my household, rookie-year Jordan Poole was known as Buggin' Out, based on both appearance and on-court demeanor. Briefly he matured into clean cut, killer, 'Breaking Bad' Giancarlo Esposito, before sadly reverting.

There is one other impact player the Warriors could go after but I think it will be very difficult for them to fit him into this financial minefield they have going for them. DeMar DeRozan. A 24ppg SG that would slip into Wiggins role very easily and surpass him. However, he is a FA and there won't be any sign and trade for him, I think. He may even take less money if he's coming to a team with a solid core. He's not on the level of PG but he's not very far off and would make a good fit for our Dubs. Anyone come up with a plan to fit him in here?

If he's willing to play for an MLE, then fine ... basically a scoring replacement for Saric.

Otherwise, no way. He couldn't replace Wiggs on-ball defense, which is probably Wiggs' most important role now.

Expand full comment

You're believing what other fans write. Not true. Nothing in Wiggins stats prove this.

Jun 27·edited Jun 27

Umm, no, and perhaps you shouldn't make assumptions why I post what I post?

It would basically be like me saying you usually post negative stuff because you are a negative person.

What you're saying is that Wiggs was bad the last two years, which I already knew. But, we both are aware of what he did in the 2022 season, when he was an *elite* on-ball defender. And, even in the last two seasons, where he was bad overall, he's had some stretches of really good defense.

So, there's a chance he can get back to that. That's the root of my post.

Your point about his stats is certainly valid, of course. Can he get back to being a plus player, at least on D? Who knows. We know Derozan is unlikely to do it.

Expand full comment

DeRozan's consistency is something to be proud of. Perhaps you should checkout his Basketball Reference stats for the last couple of years and his career stats. This is someone who makes a consistent impact for his team. He hasn't lost much unlike Wiggs. It would have helped him if he had played for better teams than he has, but I think he would be a fit here.

Jun 27·edited Jun 27

I don't think I said otherwise. On an MLE, I think he'd be OK. But, it would be more for his offense, not his D.

Expand full comment

That would be a no brainer for us, and an incredible gift from DD. Realistic? Only if no one else wants him...........

Expand full comment

Wiggins was a -2.5BPM last season, TS% .544, and -0.5 BPM the season before.

DD was +1.5BPM last season, .584TS%, and +2.0BPM the season before.

Wiggins has a negative career BPM. DD has a positive BPM. Wiggins has twice the negative Defensive career BPM than DD. Somehow, I think DeRozan is by far the better player and his stats show it. Wiggins has fallen on his face the last 2 seasons and has hurt us more than any other player on this team.

Expand full comment

For Saric? What do you mean? DeRozen is a scoring wing but not a 3-pt shooter, though his FT % is good and he gets a fair number of assists. If anything he'd take Kuminga's minutes. But you're right, he's not a particularly good defender.

Expand full comment

He's way beyond Kuminga at this stage. Not saying that JK couldn't develop, but I wouldn't compare him to JK. His natural position is SF but he can play 2,3, & 4.

just scoring. I wasn't implying he was a shooter, just a scorer who could play with the second unit (say).

Aside from the blockbuster Knicks/Brooklyn trade, this is the least exciting draft day I can remember. I can understand why the pundits termed it one of the weakest drafts in memory. Lots of young kids with very little college experience jumping into the real world. This is where the GM evaluations will let teams know if their guy has much worth. MDJ earned his wings last season. If he does it again with this group, he'll be crowned GENIUS, and be called 'MASTER' by the Warrior cognizenti. I await with great anticipation.

Anyone heard more about the Wiggs/Portis trade?

I'll pass on calling someone MASTER after winning 3 coin flips.

Paul George is trying to leverage the Warriors potential interest in him to convince the Clippers into giving him a max? That happened today, it's been kinda interesting...

The Bucks are screwed... Portis makes $14M less than Wiggins, and the Bucks have basically nobody else signed. They'd have to trade Portis, Connaughton, Beauchamp, and one of their other dudes, and then convince themselves that a core of Giannis/Dame/Middleton/BroLo/Wiggins surrounded by rookies and vet min guys is a good idea... it's not.

Expand full comment

It's not what we think that's important to Milwaukee. The Warriors have done a similar thing in the past and have had success. It all depends who they can sign up for those vet mins. Giannis, Dame, Middleton, are a super core if they all play their game successfully. They are one of the few teams with a tripartite core of worth in the league. Not saying they are the best but it's a start. I'm not convinced that they will give up all that for Wiggs.

Regarding PG, where are you getting your info from?

Educated guess... all the good agents are leaking all sorts of stuff to the media...

Right. But we really don't know what is in his mind. He's under contract with the Clipps and they seem to want him back which means we would have to make a more attractive offer and I don't think Lacob steps up with the amount of debt he's already looking at. Sleight of hand is always possible in these situations but I think it is a real long shot that he comes here. Of course I would welcome him.

What would we give the Knicks? It would be an S&T, and it sounds like they don't want salary back (my understanding is they can't afford him).

So, it sounds like they need a below-the-cap team to take him to make it a trade (i.e., not us) ... unless it's some big, multi-team trade I guess?

It would have to be another one of my “clear cap space” specials involving dumping Wiggs, Dray, Loon, and/or GP2.

An incredibly unfortunate consequence of NBA Draft's new 2-day format: Multiple green room invitees sat through the entire first round at Barclays Center (3+ hours) and were not picked.

They must now wait until Thursday's second round, which will be held in an ESPN TV studio.

That must be such a letdown. Going home tonight and trying to get some sleep must be so stressful. As much as I’m sure all of these kids have a lot of confidence in themselves, having two nights before the draft instead of just one night sounds rough.

Also, I wonder if they’ll feel like they “need” to wear an entirely different outfit for tomorrow’s draft.
