The Golden State Warriors have waived two-way guard Daeqwon Plowden, league sources told @hoopshype. Plowden averaged 14.6 points and shot 39.6% from 3-point range in eight Summer League games combined in Las Vegas and California for the Warriors.
The Warriors are signing Quinten Post (52nd pick) to a two-way contract ahead of training camp, per source. He's a stretch center. To make room, they're waiving Daeqwon Plowden. They still intend to bring Plowden to camp to compete for a two-way spot.
Before, there had been a four-way fight for 3 two-way contracts:
Quinten Post was not signed but since GSW paid POR multiple millions of dollars to draft Post, it was expected (by me and most observers) that Post would eventually be signed to a two-way contract, as the salary cap prevents him from being signed to a minimum NBA contract until the middle of the season, if at all.
However, up until today, GSW already had three players taking the three allowable two-way contracts.
Pat Spencer signed a two-way contract last spring, The most NBA-ready at 28 y.o., but the oldest of the three with perhaps the least upside.
Daeqwon Plowden, signed to a two-way during his blistering Summer League performance. Plus athleticism and a 3-and-D wing profile, but also 25 y.o. and hadn’t made it out of the G-League over several years of efforts.
Reece Beekman, signed to a two-way contract on 2024 Draft Night. In college was an elite defender with stupendous assist rate and advanced stats. However, he’s 6-1 and an injury kept him from showing much in Summer League. Not yet 23 y.o., one can dream about more development.
So somebody had to go. And today, it was Plowden.
Here are more detailed scouting reports on Post, Beekman, and Plowden:
Just listened to a podcast where Looney, down to a nice 245 lbs, apparently went up to his shooting coach and said I am ready to start shooting 3’s and the coach said I have been waiting to hear that!
That does not sound like it has been a point of emphasis before.
This season is going to be so interesting if KL actually transforms himself and GP can stay healthy and return to his best form. As I have said too often, the ultimate team of IF’s.
This has to be the most unpredictable and fascinating team they have had.
So we waived Plowden but he can still attend camp? Do we have him under some other contract instead? I'm wondering if this juggling of two-ways has more to do with some obscure rules rather anything to do with who actually gets the final two-way spots.
