Thinking Basketball posted a vid with Steve Nash breaking down why he was so dominant with the pick and roll.
Beyond being basketball porn, there is so much in there that would be perfect for Podz. The way that Nash skips to maintain momentum allowing him accelerate faster (something useful for Podz). The way that Nash uses hang dribbles/inside out/hesitations to manipulate defenders into screens and generating space for him to operate.
I think Podz's biggest problem is him being stuck in on man's land after coming off the pick. He's not a huge threat to finish inside and his middy game is unproven
Atlanta says, “Forward Jonathan Kuminga, who sustained a left knee bone bruise while playing for Golden State at Dallas on Jan. 22, is progressing in his rehabilitation. He will be re-evaluated in approximately one week, and an update will be provided at that time.”
Hmmm ...
Who will appear in more games over the rest of this season, Zinga or Minga?
(actually, I'll still be watching at least some of it even if Porzingis can't go either)
5 out of the next 7 games are on either ABC, Peacock, or Prime (the most this season?). Hopefully Steph and Porzingis both play at least once during that stretch.
Basically, while the Warriors could easily slip behind the Clippers and the Trail Blazers, it is effectively impossible for them to outtank the Grizzlies, Mavericks, Jazz, Pelicans, and Kings.
Why is it not an option, especially if it looks like we'll make the play in anyway. By shutting him down, I only meant shutting down or more aggressive load management till the playin tournament and then try your luck there.
Not sure why he won't agree especially if: 1) we can't move up 2) locked in to the Top 10 3) he won't be in the running for any awards(needs a min of 58 even for FT title).
It's just smarter to rest him so he's ready for the playin. Of course if it looks like we can get to the 6, I'm sure he'll want to play. But other than that I don't see why he wouldn't agree if the above conditions hold(like if he misses 4-5 more games before he comes back and we dip under 500).
He's not even the oldest, most injured player on the team. Imagine holding Steph back while still putting Horford and Porzingis out there to win games? The optics are bad.
Also Steph is an all-star. He has to play nationally televised games if he's healthy enough to play.
Is that why he's missed the last 3+ weeks? About to get another MRI with Celebrini in Italy. Very doubtful that he's back before March. Also doubt the team or Steph care about optics of national TV games if there's even the slightest risk of major injury. I'm not asking him to not play any games, just be extra cautious. I just don't see the point of playing Steph when we're likely to be in the play in with or without him. Wouldn't it make more sense that he's as ready for the playin as possible?
He's close to missing a month. It's not worth risking next year because you went balls to the walls. I firmly believe last year's sprint was what caused Steph's hamstring issue.
Kristaps Porzingis said he’s “back at it” tomorrow vs Celtics. Team listing him as questionable so he didn’t want to say for certain, but it’s clear he plans to make his Warriors debut.
Wow. This almost certainly means Steph will be out of the running for All NBA/other honors as he needs to play in 26 of the 27 remaining games. Unfortunate. Given this I think he'll miss at least 7-10 more days. Hopefully he's back against the Clippers(Mar 2) since tie breakers maybe important against them.
Steve Kerr said Warriors' training staff and Steph Curry opted against the full workout tonight when he reported not feeling it ready. Called the "runner's knee" issue Curry is dealing with nebulous.
"We've got to be certain. He's got to be certain."
From the video it looks like LaMelo swerves into the grey sedan while in the middle of the intersection. Not the greatest POV so I'm not making an accusation of who's at fault but the real crime here is that camouflage-colored Hummer.
I will admit to being curious about what JK will become. He has had the excuse all of these years: The Warriors--especially Steve Kerr--are holding me back. Now, there are no more excuses. Will he show that he can be a consistent star? Or will he keep showing flashes of what could be if he were disciplined enough to learn to play the right way? Inquiring minds want to know...
As for KP, I really want him to be the new Bogut, the new Otto Porter Jr. Keep hope alive!
The Warriors say that Seth Curry will intensify his on-court work and get into some live play in the coming week. He will miss at least another two weeks. He's been out with a sciatica issue since early December. @anthonyVslater
>>>Sacramento Kings star Domantas Sabonis underwent season-ending surgery on Wednesday morning to repair the torn meniscus in his left knee, sources tell ESPN. Sabonis rehabbed the meniscus tear during the season and tried to play through the injury before having surgery now.<<<
>>> Kings guard Demar Derozan will miss the remainder of the season after being surgically removed from the rotation. It’s strictly a precautionary procedure to ensure the Kings don’t accidentally win any games.
Both trade targets of some parts of the GSW fandom, both out for the rest of the year. A lot of the non-moves MDJ made (or didn't make) are panning out pretty well
Some of these moves are tanking teams getting optional surgeries done during the season so they can justify keeping the players out of games. Doesn't mean they couldn't have played.
Sabonis is a guy I think would be a good Warrior center, but healthy KP is probably a better fit.
I think that's making a pretty big assumption that isn't supported by any reporting I've seen. Can you provide any evidence that these aren't real injuries and real surgeries?
The ESPN report indicates that Sabonis elected to have surgery, which, to me, indicates he might have been able to play with it. He already played eight games in Jan and Feb with this injury.
So, do I have proof, no. But, I think it's quite likely that the Kings (who are definitely tanking) just decided their season was going nowhere and they and Sabonis just decided to prioritize next season.
I'm sure it's easier to make a decision to get surgery when your team doesn't need you for a playoff push but that still doesn't indicate to me that the player wouldn't have gotten the procedure if their teams were playing better, I don't think most players have that kind of loyalty to their orgs
Kyrie tore his ACL at a similar point in the season as Jimmy and will miss rest of the year. I know there is tanking involved but he's also 4 years younger.
I don't think Jimmy will be back much at all next year.
Individuals vary. Tatum tore Achilles, supposed to be close to return. Haliburton suffered the same injury a couple of weeks later, return nowhere in sight.
My guess is if Jimmy is nowhere close to return or is determined to be out for the rest of the season around the trade deadline next year, they'll try to flip his then expiring contract for something else.
Actually he did not need a lot of time for the swelling to go down, it was about two weeks which is well within the normal surgery timeline for his injury. I did a whole deep dive on it a week or so ago pulling info (and providing sources) from a bunch of hospitals, orthopedic surgeons, and medical research papers from well-known institutions that all supported this conclusion.
Hali is younger than Tatum. That was my point. Obviously Jimmy is older and likely to miss most of the season, but individual timelines vary. Jimmy might recover quicker and better.
Not liking the reporting about Steph's knee :(
I hope this isn't the beginning of the end

The line on tomorrow's game opened with Warriors as 3.5 point underdogs, moved to 4.5, then down to just 2.5, but is now as high as 5.5.
Steph is not playing tomorrow - so thats why
If they win without Steph but with KP, that might be a bit of a statement
More time to catch up on the Olympics, I guess . . . https://tenor.com/view/alonzo-mourning-heat-epiphany-realization-gif-4933735

Only Tatum out for the Celtics.
If Steph is out for a couple more weeks, and the Zinger looks gimpy, would just shut Steph down unless playin is assured.
OK, but playoff/in projections currently show the playoff/in as 99.9% assured if you count the 9th and 10th seeds and 75.7% assured if you count just the top 8 seeds: https://www.basketball-reference.com/friv/playoff_prob.html
Basically, while the Warriors could easily slip behind the Clippers and the Trail Blazers, it is effectively impossible for them to outtank the Grizzlies, Mavericks, Jazz, Pelicans, and Kings.
People suggest shutting Steph down like it's an option. If he can go ... it's not an option to shut him down.
It does become an option if he has an actual nagging injury and not just a tanking injury.
Why is it not an option, especially if it looks like we'll make the play in anyway. By shutting him down, I only meant shutting down or more aggressive load management till the playin tournament and then try your luck there.
Because he'll never agree to it and it'll piss him off if they force the issue.
Not sure why he won't agree especially if: 1) we can't move up 2) locked in to the Top 10 3) he won't be in the running for any awards(needs a min of 58 even for FT title).

He wants to play basketball

Steph Curry is OUT tomorrow night against the Celtics @NBCSWarriors
Steve Kerr calls it "unfortunate." Curry did not feel right yet and did not practice today. He's meeting with the training staff tonight
Kristaps Porzingins will be listed as questionable for tomorrow's game against the Celtics
@NBCSWarriors
Porzingis was a full participant in today's scrimmage and Steve Kerr says "fingers crossed" he makes his team debut tomorrow
@DaltonJ_Johnson
Kristaps Porzingis said he’s “back at it” tomorrow vs Celtics. Team listing him as questionable so he didn’t want to say for certain, but it’s clear he plans to make his Warriors debut.
“Feeling good. Ready to go.” @anthonyVslater
Dang. Old age symptoms has finally caught up to Steph. No offense.
We probably should start a contest to guess how many failed alley-oops Draymond will throw if Zinger can play.
First real lob finishing threat Draymond has had since?
Probably Wiseman (when he caught the ball), sadly.
The Warriors offense when we have a lob threat (Javale/GP2 during his breakout year) was oddly electric.
The first 10-20 games of GP2 in 2021-2022 before teams adjusted was thrilling
Wow. This almost certainly means Steph will be out of the running for All NBA/other honors as he needs to play in 26 of the 27 remaining games. Unfortunate. Think that ship had already sailed before the ASB, realistically speaking.

Bummer
LaMelo car accident.

I can't believe we have basketball TOMORROW!
Steph and/or KP playing is a bonus, as far as I'm concerned. I just need basketball!
Yeah, if only we could start having like 5 games a week or something ... checks the upcoming schedule ... whelp
KP might play before JK.
The irony.
I will admit to being curious about what JK will become. He has had the excuse all of these years: The Warriors--especially Steve Kerr--are holding me back. Now, there are no more excuses. If he blossoms, Kerr held him back. If he doesn't pan out, Kerr stunted his growth.

Yeah whatever lol
It would have been fun to see Dell, Steph and Seth in that 3-man thing during All Star Weekend

Slow down there, Mr HIPAA-Violations Inspector.
Kyrie tore his ACL at a similar point in the season as Jimmy and will miss rest of the year. I know there is tanking involved but he's also 4 years younger.
I don't think Jimmy will be back much at all next year.
At a similar point in the season? Kyrie tore his a whole month and a half later than Jimmy. That's a significant difference, IMO.
(Not predicting when Jimmy will come back, just felt it wasn't quite accurate to say that.)
Tatum is much younger and had the surgery immediately (apparently this is important for recovery).
Jimmy is old and needed a lot of time to let swelling go down. Not good.
Actually he did not need a lot of time for the swelling to go down, it was about two weeks which is well within the normal surgery timeline for his injury. I did a whole deep dive on it a week or so ago pulling info (and providing sources) from a bunch of hospitals, orthopedic surgeons, and medical research papers from well-known institutions that all supported this conclusion.
please share some.
ACL is very different from Achilles and the distinction your making isn’t correct
Hali is younger than Tatum. That was my point. Obviously Jimmy is older and likely to miss most of the season, but individual timelines vary. Jimmy might recover quicker and better.
I think JB will be on the same timeline as Klay for ACL.
If by “same timeline as Klay” you mean “rehab for a year and then rupture his Achilles and miss another year”, I’m gonna pass on that.
There’s really no need to speculate or worry about this at this point. Que sera sera.
I don't think it makes sense to plan next season as if Jimmy will be back (at all) or near his prior level of play.
Warriors supposedly have a practice scheduled today according to Nick Friedell. Steph is expected to participate.
So… you’re telling me there’s a chance!
Starting tomorrow, Porzingis is going on a 400+ game iron-man streak, averaging 20+ pts, 10+ rbs, and 10+asts.
was looney’s body inserted into him?
Well, yeah. Duh!!!
;-)
