Wiseman continues progress, but without Chet & Giddey, it was not a spicy game
One more summer league game on Sunday 4:30
Apricot In-Game Notes
OKC holding out Chet and Giddey, boooo
Mac actually passed out of the PNR
Good OREB for Wise, going up strong for the dunk.
Wise fighting harder for the contested rebounds and even the uncontested ones. Also nailed a guy on the screen for Mac out of the corner.
Quiniones with the pass to a rolling Wise!! Very rare event this summer league
Quiniones looks off JK who wanted the ball at half court (ok), runs a high PNR (ok), kicks it out into the stands (not ok). Mac actually wound up for a dunk there but fouled
Our Gui Santos continues to be the point guard passing most to others. Finally calls his own number on a high difficulty swivel fadeaway J at the right elbow, nothing by net.
Local folk hero Santos runs wing pick and roll, defender goes under, Gui pulls up for an open 3, nothing but net. Then draws a foul, fires up the free throw… nothing but back rim. Second free throw, nothing but back rim, even harder. Oh well, no one’s perfect
Wise grabs a weird bounce D rebound and shows maturity by immediately giving it up, and not trying a coast to coast highlight. Catches a pass to him cutting to the basket. Wise gets a cross screen into a post up. Makes two moves going nowhere, maturely passes it to a cutter who rolls out a layup. Wise spots up top, tosses up a slow 3, count it. Another lob to Wise, I’d have to see the replay as to what went wrong… I’m a little scarred from Wise dropping those in the past.
JK gives it to JW high elbow. In the big league, there would be some kind of handoff back to JK or split action elsewhere. In the summer league, JW hoists up a brick.
Nate In-Game Notes
Wiseman is definitely fighting harder on the oboards — looking active, trying to get a hand on the ball — but he’s still turning in place and watching the ball on the defensive end. It’s one thing to just be out of position, but on one play he was in position and got to the ball but a guard was able to knock it away. That just can’t happen.
Yeah in that case it wasn’t even about getting a body on the guy, but simply not even realizing he was there. It’s just so weird — the ball goes up and he falls into some sort of trance until it hits the rim.
Yeah … I can’t lie, I’m having a hard time watching this tonight. Lol
GUI SANTOS TAKEOVER LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOO
Wiseman looks like he has wanted a pick and pop instead of the roll a few times, but guys aren’t really looking for that. I’d like to see them run a few of those with him a few times just to see him do it. And I think that’s fine. He’s WAY more comfortable from the perimeter than the post right now.
Great to see Wiseman establish position and actually get the ball passed to him! Easy free throws at this level. Do it again!
Something that shouldn’t go unnoticed: Wiseman is definitely affecting things in the paint defensively. Guards are hesitating to shoot or kicking out when they see him START to rotate over. Definitely hard to know if that’ll be the case in a regular season game, but it’s more noticeable tonight than other nights even if he doesn’t end up with a whole lot of blocks.
I think there was a feature or article about that last year and when he was asked about it he said he really doesn’t have a lot of creative dunks. For some reason I recall people concluding that GP2 and JTA (!!) we’re the most creative dunkers on the team, but I can’t remember where I saw all this lol
That last jumper Kuminga took was definitely one of the best looking one he’s taken this summer. Something that always annoys me about his shot is it never looks fluid; that last one he made looked way better from load up all the way to follow through. Wonder how long it’ll be until that’s consistent.
It’s ok! We love you, Gui!!!!!! Lol
Always saddens me to see Abdul Gaddy — he was a promising talent at UW when I lived in Seattle and the ACL tear just killed his athleticism (and he was never a terribly explosive run-jump athlete to begin with). Crazy to see he’s 30 now and still trying to make his mark…
When I first saw Wiseman wear number 33, I thought he might incorporate the Sky Hook into his game. Hell, why doesn’t any 7 footer shoot the Sky Hook? I learned to shoot it in the first grade. Can’t be that difficult. Not sexy enough? Kareem was an automatic 2 in crunch time—THAT’s SEXY! Still holds most points in the NBA because of that shot!
Mr Wiseman please consider following in the foot steps of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and do that Sky Hook! When you eventually get double-team, kick out to Curry. Thank you.
#Celtics announce they have signed C Mfiondu Kabengele to a two-way contract. He flourished for BOS in Las Vegas Summer League.
Disappointing. Was hoping that the Warriors would at least bring him on an Exhibit 10 contract in preseason.
