Warriors trade for Jimmy Butler
Wiggins goes out - with Schroder, Kyle Anderson and a 1st rounder. Update: also sent out Lindy Waters and 2nd rounder
Wow.
The Golden State Warriors have made a major trade that will bring in mercurial star, Jimmy “Buckets” Butler, according to early reporting. Going out in the deal are Andrew Wiggins, Dennis Schroder, and a 1st round draft pick.
Butler is a legitimate top tier NBA talent. The six time All-Star has had huge moments in the playoffs, and should mesh well with the Warriors scheme and personnel. The Loss of Wiggins stings, but was one of the only remaining viable upgrade options for a Golden State franchise that was palpably growing more frantic after league shakeups and star player movements set a wild tone to this year’s trade deadline.
Thoughts?
Prayers?
It’s a good value. Wiggins has made an extremely strong case for long-term viability, but losing him and a couple of players that struggled to consistently contribute to winning for a player of Butler’s caliber is worth a shot.
Plus, imagine a lineup like this (and mix in Podz, Moody, Looney, and Post):
PG: Curry
SG: GP2
SF: Butler
PF: Kuminga
C: Draymond
Anyways, the Warriors also have a game to play. They were out on the court warming up when the team was pulled back into the locker room for a short closed door meeting. I cannot wait to get the tea on this.
Post-game thread up.
The upside of this trade to me is we didn’t give up any youth other than a top 10 protected draft pick that will prob convey this year(prob like 15th-20th) for someone who led his team to a finals twice.
A bonus to everything is now we have a max contract slot from jimmy that we could attach to picks and/or a young player to try to upgrade to Durant or Giannis if they become available.
Not the move I wanted but I’m optimistic
