I assume everyone here has been riveted by the half hour long interview with TJ D on NBC Sports Bay Area Dubs Talk, just concluded. The entire population of TJD Atoll, including the dolphins, rays, and sharks (no, not sports teams) attended the event. He mentioned that on draft night the Dubs had several other negotiations in the works, I think he said four or five, but they fell through before they made the offer to him. Did everyone know this?
I think it’s been reported in an interview with MDJ that they negotiated with many team trying to trade into the second round and get him, but the wizards at 57 is the one that finally worked out.
My wife who does not follow sports just asked me an excellent question I do not know the answer to, but I have faith people here will: “Does Steph ever have two bad games in a row?”
Looks like he had two less than stellar games in a row on December 28th and 30th, w/ BPMs of -0.8 and -2.3, but I would classify both of those games as mediocre rather than bad, so no.
Dray defends AD well but we have a hard time getting in the paint vs AD at the other end. If we can lure him out, as we did at times in the playoffs last year, that helps a bunch. But there's still LeBron.
If I had told you five years ago that my team's BENCH backcourt is Chris Paul and Klay Thompson, you would have had two reactions: 1. Who the hell is STARTING, dayyum! and 2. That's one insanely good bench backcourt. Age has caught up to both of them, especially CP, but if we put those boys out the there with let's say Saric TJD and GPII, I contend that bench five would beat at least ten starting fives in the league.
How and how much do we reintegrate CP back into the lineup? Champagne problems, as the kids would say.
I had an opportunity to invest early in an interesting startup this weekend, and tuning into my inner Lacob CEO, we decided it was worth the high upside risk... And then after committing $XX,XXX, I remembered Joey was very high on Wise! Time will tell on both accounts...
Man, Dray just won't stop until I full-on hate him will he?
[edit: just to be clear this is in the context of the hornets scuffle, but still]
“Miles is my guy, that’s my little brother, so I’m not going to sit here and go in on Miles. Miles can do no wrong to me,”
Is this the same Miles Bridges who beat the shit out of his girlfriend in front of their two kids?
"According to Johnson's hospital report which she posted to Instagram, she was an "adult victim of abuse by male partner" which included assault by strangulation, brain concussion, closed fracture of nasal bone, contusion of rib, multiple bruises, and a neck muscle strain."
Same. Their lives off the court affect me none whatsoever. Didn't even know about the whole Miles Bridges thing, or maybe just completely forgot. Regardless, I just watch them ball, and that's it
> In October 2023, Bridges was charged with violating his probation and protection order after an October 6 incident where he allegedly threw billiard balls at Johnson's car, breaking her windshield while their children were inside the car. Bridges' current girlfriend is also alleged to have kicked the car while yelling in Johnson's direction. Bridges turned himself in on October 13 and was released upon paying $1,000 bond. At this time, Bridges had an outstanding warrant stemming from January 2023 that had yet to be served
I didn't know there was a follow-up incident... how is this guy still in the NBA?
I was a big Draymond defender before the punch, I honestly can't tell if he's been more of a self-righteous blowhard asshole since then, or if I'm just seeing him for who he really is. This is another huge dip in my respect for him... starting to think he's kind of a piece of shit.
Really sucks cause he's probably my second favorite warrior on the court.
Sorry, I should mention that this is in the context of the scuffle last night, it's not like he was commenting directly on the domestic abuse, not sure if that was clear (added an edit)
Not at all saying it’s right but it is common for people to not see and have trouble believing the bad things our friends do when we don’t see that side of them. But I also agree given that it’s clear what Bridges had done that Draymond’s statement was…hmmm…unfortunate.
I read that as "on the court" as he was talking about the scuffle incident. Not on personal matters. But I remembered there was something about the domestic abuse and kind of thought it was MB, but because there wasn't any mention of it on his return, I thought it wasn't a thing...
We're 8-1 in the last 9 and haven’t moved up a spot in the standings lol. It’s crazy how perfect we’re going to have to be to avoid the play in or even possibly get 7/8
We were 11th, and like 6 games back of the 6 seed. We’re 3 back now… I get that we haven’t jumped up the standings much, but we’re in a much better spot since the beginning of that stretch
OT: I saw the Heat-Pelicans brawl video today, and man. It was definitely worse than the Warriors-Hornets fight towards the end of the game. It looks like multiple Heat and Pels who were involved in the fight are going to be suspended at least one game each.
I think that the Warriors/hornets thing wasn't a fight. It was more of a gathering. A kerfuffle. Nobody was really mad, they just had hurt feelings a little bit.
The Hornets were playing real hard up to that point. Why shouldn’t we continue to play also? And Kerr in his postgame interview said that what Quinones did is what Kerr tells them to do. Basketball seems to be the only sport where the winning team is expected to not hurt the feelings of the losing team in the last minute or so. What a stupid practice or custom (not a rule, mind you), especially, in a professional sport where grown men are paid in the millions. Their egos can’t take it? Sheesh, grow up. Now, if these were five year olds playing, the practice might be understandable. But then, maybe, these are grown men with five year old feelings.
I see your point, and believe that, as long as everyone is on the same page, it should be fine. However, the Hornets had mostly left the court, the Warriors had mostly left the court, and the two coaches were doing their game over huggy thing. Presumably, they all thought the game was over and did not expect to see any more scoring, just dribbling.
Baseball has similar unwritten rules. You don’t steal bases or bunt to advance a runner in the late innings with a big lead. Back in the day if you did that your next batter was going to eat dirt.
In all the time I watched basketball, I’ve never seen a player ignore the basic tradition of dribbling up the court, crossing the centerline, and then dribbling out the time. The hornets were all at the other end of the court. The other Warriors were mostly off the court.
Lester wouldn't have dribbled out the game clock though, that's the point. Would it have been unusual for LQ to do that if there was say 20s with like 4 on the shotclock instead of 12?
I guess in that case he could’ve dribble it out the full 24 seconds, then Bridges could’ve flown up the court, with no one else on the court, and made a spectacular dunk.
I’m thinking, and I could definitely be wrong about this, that Lester also had the option of shooting and hitting the rim, and then getting his own rebound. At which point he could have just dribbled it out. Is that correct?
It's still the etiquette to dribble it out if the other team has no chance of winning with time left on the clock. This was the case. I was very surprised by the pass to Lester and him shooting it.
For one thing the Warriors who weren't in the game stayed off the court during the altercation with the Hornets. I think the refs had a better handle on the Warriors-Hornets situation too. They lost control of that Heat-Pels situation from the get-go.
So happy to report that one of our parents got kicked out of the 6th grade girls’ game, my wife got a verbal warning, and our kid left in tears. So for all of you reading this, and to my wife, don’t be those people at a 6th grade girls basketball game accusing the refs of rigging the game against your kid’s team Save that for a Lakers- Warriors series.
There's a reason I quit umpiring Little League baseball after one season, and it was the parents. Some of the coaches, too, sadly. They set a heck of an example for those kids, and not in a good way.
one time when my dad was upset with some refereeing in one of my elementary school basketball games, the ref said to him "look man, if we were really good we wouldn't be reffing this level", and that has stuck with me
‘"look man, if we were really good we wouldn't be reffing this level"‘
Exactly. Hats off to all those who volunteer(or make token amounts), but little leagues are little league top to bottom. There’s nothing wrong with that in the slightest as long as everyone can keep some prospective. Most folks do, but yeah, there’s some cringe out there in youth sports.
Listen not to defend my wife but as soon as some of the parents started acting the fools it was like wildfire and my wife got whipped up. As for myself it’s a kids game I don’t care.
On a per minute basis they're tied, but Podz plays much bigger minutes (since he's an actual star prospect, as opposed to a JAG who does little other than hustle and draw charges).
“I knew he was frustrated,” Kerr said of Kuminga. “We had a great talk the next day. He came into my office. He’s a very respectful young guy. For the first two years, our conversations were very much one-sided. I couldn’t get him to respond. So I would tell him what we needed. And he didn’t say a whole lot.
“So I think it was actually a good thing for him to kind of express his frustration because it kind of forced him to really take ownership of it, and we had a good conversation. He let me know how he’s feeling, that he was frustrated, and we went through a list of things that I felt he needed to do,
“I think he gets a lot of criticism for, ‘Oh, he’s not playing young guys,'” Draymond said of Kerr. “But would JK have been as ready as he is now a year ago? I personally don’t think so. I think we all believed in what JK could become. But you almost do JK a disservice by not giving him credit (for) the work he put in to become the player that he’s become this year.
Find a role and forcefully grab it? Talk to Kerr about what frustrates him about his current role, listen to the answer, and implement the changes requested?
> “A lot of the stuff that has happened,” Moody said. “Coach, they told me a lot of the stuff is out of my control. They said I’ve been doing all the right stuff and playing good…Obviously, taking a self-conscious route. There’s something you can do better, always. Something I can do better or control. I feel like I’ve been in a good rhythm, been in a good flow all season. So I don’t want to change things up just because the situation has changed.”
I don't know if anyone else watched the hornets broadcast, but I thought the play-by-play guy *constantly* asking Dell to compare himself/Steph/Seth was f-ing obnoxious. "Seth has a better shooting percentage than Steph, would you rather have a lot of makes or a higher percentage? Who shoots most like you? Who do you think is the better defender?" dude, Steph is a first ballot hall of famer, he's literally better than Seth and Dell in every conceivable way, don't make Dell say it ffs.
Is Lester Quinones on the Warriors next season? I'm not so sure tbh, and not just because he signed a one year deal. He cleared the Cory Joseph bar but that was an exceptionally low bar to clear. He hasn't scored efficiently, his A/TO ratio is positive but nothing special for a guard, opponents attack him defensively and he essentially has the highest foul rate on the team (behind only Garuba and Santos, both of whom are not guards and don't really play).
The organizational decision to play him so much is confusing to me for multiple reasons, but the most basic one is that he hasn't been very good? Guess it won't matter soon with CP3 back, but I'd like for a reporter to try to dig into that situation a bit.
Lester hasn't been glorious in putting up impressive ppg, but the Dubs have been winning the games he has played in. He brings energy, boards, and knows the system. There is no doubt he fits better than Cojo. But in terms of longevity on this team, unless he messes up big time, he will be an inexpensive fill in until someone else replaces him or he is offered something better from another team.
With no first round picks and only a weak second rounder, the Dubs are going to need cheap roster filler. LQ will qualify. So I think he’ll probably be on the team. But I have zero doubt that if the staff finds a better option at the same low low price they will absolutely make a change.
He’s on the bubble, but I would bet that he will be. He’s a system and culture guy and you know Steve loves those, esp. as the last man of the bench. We also know Steve loves ball handling.
Yeah that's true about him being a culture guy, between that and the salary it'll probably keep him around. But so far I don't think he's been very impressive.
One thing LQ does better than the average, fungible, dime-a-dozen, borderline G-League combo guard is rebound the ball: 6.6 boards per 36 in the NBA, 7.7 in the G-League.
He's still probably pretty fungible given his age and lack of other elite skills, but great rebounding for one's position does tend to correlate to other good qualities as a player. I don't love him, but I'd probably take him over Jordan Poole given equal contracts (despite JP being a nominally a higher-level scorer).
Would anyone rather have Jerome Robinson in that spot? I don't think there are a ton of legit good players avail for that price. Seems like the people that hated on CoJo, not sure what they are expecting from the 14th guy?
I’d take a chance on JP for that price any day, providing he wanted to come play for the Dubs. A slice of true humble pie does wonders for attitude and work ethic.
I presume that if he decided to not only take a contract at that price, but also to sign said contract w/the Dubs, that the humble pie had been tasted, chewed, swallowed, and digested. Because coming crawling back to your prior team at the minimum is fucking soul-crushing.
Any particular motivation for this question to come up now? Only ask because there’s a lot of season left and a metric ton of uncertainties that will firm up by free agency… maybe he plays himself into the rotation, maybe he loses all his minutes when CP3 comes back, maybe the Warriors have serious cap space concerns, maybe they trade Moody, maybe nobody better is available on the open market… I’m sure everybody’s plan is that Lester will play great and be obviously deserving of a roster spot… it likely may not play out that way, but we’ll see
He is super cheap, and they need 14 bodies to fill the roster and keep the payroll down. I'd be pretty surprised if Les and Gui are not around next year just based on their contracts independent of how they play.
Gui’s a different category, imho. Given his size, age (almost two years younger than LQ), shooting, and skills, I think there’s a non-zero chance he’s a $30M+ NBA starter when he grows up.
I've just realized something about my basketball player analysis capabilities. I'm REALLY fucking good at identifying highly effective sub All Stars before they make it big (Bane/White/Sengun/Harris/Brunson) and highly effective role players (Caruso/KCP/Hartenstein) BUT I'm terrible at identifying STAR talent.
This has to be a commentary about the way I analyze players, but I can't figure out why my analysis turns out like this.
I like all the guys Arash likes and I didn't see Chet or Ant coming, I loved Tyrese but I didn't think he'd be a superstar, didn't think Tyrese Maxey would be very good...
But I also think Arash's definition of star might be too restrictive, (Brunson/Sengun/Bane are borderline stars already at 27/21/25); also, there's only like 20 stars in the league total at any one time, and 15 of those are established stars, so it makes sense that it's a lot harder to predict who those last 5 will be.
Yes I misworded that. This is the first year on Dray's deal. Steph and Kerr will be under contract for Dray's 2nd and 3rd year. Dray's 4th year is the player option.
They are not lowballing him unless his production fell off a cliff. It has not. The original deal is probably still on the table. I don’t think ownership is looking to nickel and dime him. They are looking at the bigger picture in how his deal could neatly fall under that second apron. I don’t think 2-3 or even 5 milly less a year is gonna make a yuge difference in the grand scheme of things. What will is bitter feelings if they come in way under what they previously offered
I assume everyone here has been riveted by the half hour long interview with TJ D on NBC Sports Bay Area Dubs Talk, just concluded. Hmm. Can you remember that happening?
I gotcha covered (at least for 2023/24)
https://www.whathaveyoudoneformelately.info/
Looks like he had two less than stellar games in a row on December 28th and 30th, w/ BPMs of -0.8 and -2.3, but I would classify both of those games as mediocre rather than bad, so no.
No, because this implies he's had at least one bad game
In the lulls of January and February, yup. Post all-star game when he cares, #1!
There are only three teams in the Western Conference (Wolves/Nuggets/Lakers) that can punish Draymond at the 5 (our best lineup).
Unfortunately, the Lakers are currently our competition for the play-in.
Dray does a pretty good job vs AD
And Dray can deal with Jokic well
And Steph can deal with Gobert…
https://youtu.be/UZOCU2ZzhwE?si=GTS1-sqLBoEDoeaN
Wiggs can deal with KAT.
https://youtu.be/fBIWzYFhPvE?si=19kbgzLpLMIrjQTD
One of the best bench celebrations in recent history.
Christopher Xavier Chiozza sighting, Dre and GP2 in disbelief, but JTA the madman tops them all
Dancing queen Gobert chasing Steph doesn’t get old. It’s hilarious.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZLD9B_EXas
Gosh I remember the sound of the crowd reacting to that first Wiggins dunk. It was so visceral!
Dray defends AD well but we have a hard time getting in the paint vs AD at the other end. If we can lure him out, as we did at times in the playoffs last year, that helps a bunch. But there's still LeBron.
If only Dray was able to shoot 3s well again…
Nah that will never happen. Everybody knows Dray can't shoot 3s.
If I had told you five years ago that my team's BENCH backcourt is Chris Paul and Klay Thompson, you would have had two reactions: 1. Who the hell is STARTING, dayyum! and 2. How and how much do we reintegrate CP back into the lineup? Champagne problems, as the kids would say.
Five years ago, CP3 was playing with the Rockets - a bitter rival of the Dubs at the time (2017-2019).
Suffice to say, these would not have been our first or second thoughts.
But I’m sure you know what the kids say about champagne for our real friends, and what we wish for those that ain’t.
Hi there. Night Night!
CALIFORNIA ''Champagne problems''....lol
Not much to root for in the NBA tonight, other than I guess losses by the Celtics and Wolves (just generally to knock them both down a peg).
Nets over the Wolves brings the Dubs half a game closer to taking the 1 seed.
Wiseman playing… can root for him I guess

Come the f*** on man.
I absolutely don't care about basketball players statements (and don't listen either)
I go watch the game and come back home to my life
That's all

It seems like Draymond is friends with Miles Bridges and will stick with him no matter what, which is quite disappointing.
He said that? Jesus Christ, dude.

It’s a Michigan State thing — and not about the domestic abuse — but yeah, still pretty tone deaf and gross.
"he can do no wrong" is a sweeping statement about a guy with a known history. He wasn't saying it about the abuse, but maybe he was.
Man, I hope not, but you could be right.
Michigan State cult
No I understood that, it's just the "can do no wrong" thing.
I read that as "on the court" as he was talking about the scuffle incident. Not on personal matters. But I remembered there was something about the domestic abuse and kind of thought it was MB, but because there wasn't any mention of it on his return, I thought it wasn't a thing...
Okay cool, I'm with you!
Me neither, I just want to make it clear that he's not explicitly saying that Miles can do no wrong re: the battery
Right?? like all he has to do is shut the f- up. He just can't, he's addicted to making an ass of himself.

#5-10 in the West could end up tight enough where a key suspension or two (to NOP, e.g.) could make a difference…

Is your wife Matt Barnes? 😁
Listen not to defend my wife but as soon as some of the parents started acting the fools it was like wildfire and my wife got whipped up. As for myself it’s a kids game I don’t care.
You have the right perspective. News flash to those acting the fool: Tim Donaghy does NOT ref and bet on 6th grade girls basketball.
I’m guessing the Podz with his three charges yesterday just passed Williams
Jaylin?
Podz 31, Jaylin 14.
On a per minute basis they're tied, but Podz plays much bigger minutes (since he's an actual star prospect, as opposed to a JAG who does little other than hustle and draw charges).

God, that's a great article. The Athletic team is really something, even Tim.
Yeah, TK is kind of a pompous a$$, but he does know ball and is very well connected, and generally writes a good article.
Kuminga did what Moody should do now
In public?
Find a role and forcefully grab it? Talk to Kerr about what frustrates him about his current role, listen to the answer, and implement the changes requested?

I feel like I’ve been in a good rhythm, been in a good flow all season. So I don’t want to change things up just because the situation has changed.”
Pregame interviews with Dell and Seth about playing Steph and calling a game with both sons:
https://youtu.be/1ApoO-UD1_Q?si=qwfwlDnA_99GRfho
Who doesn't love a little ball handling?

(I'm so sorry)
Shall we play a game?
I never hated on CoJo, but we were def spoiled by Ty Jerome and he who shall not be named last year
Ty and Mr. Ewe definitely played better than their contracts would imply
I’d take a chance on JP for that price any day, providing he wanted to come play for the Dubs. A slice of true humble pie does wonders for attitude and work ethic.
Don't hold your breath.
Whether JP has tasted of that humble pie and reconsidered the errors of his ways remains to be seen.
Gui signed a 3 year contract.
That a lone tells me they view Gui as the better prospect.
And they signed him first when they had the option to sign either guy.
Gui’s a different category, imho. Given his size, age (almost two years younger than LQ), shooting, and skills, I think there’s a non-zero chance he’s a $30M+ NBA starter when he grows up.
Agreed, Gui's a real prospect
I've just realized something about my basketball player analysis capabilities. I'm REALLY fucking good at identifying highly effective sub All Stars before they make it big (Bane/White/Sengun/Harris/Brunson) and highly effective role players (Caruso/KCP/Hartenstein) BUT I'm terrible at identifying STAR talent.
This has to be a commentary about the way I analyze players, but I can't figure out why my analysis turns out like this.
Examples of star talent you’ve missed?
Giannis/Tatum/Booker/Shai
I like all the guys Arash likes and I didn't see Chet or Ant coming, I loved Tyrese but I didn't think he'd be a superstar, didn't think Tyrese Maxey would be very good...
But I also think Arash's definition of star might be too restrictive, (Brunson/Sengun/Bane are borderline stars already at 27/21/25); also, there's only like 20 stars in the league total at any one time, and 15 of those are established stars, so it makes sense that it's a lot harder to predict who those last 5 will be.

Klay 2yr/50m deal this off-season
That's a really large over pay.
I don’t want him on the team next year
Can't imagine the Warriors letting him go.
That would be the same deal Draymond got (although he has a third year player option).
Dray is 4/100
Yes I misworded that. This is the first year on Dray's deal. Steph and Kerr will be under contract for Dray's 2nd and 3rd year. Dray's 4th year is the player option.
Supposedly Klay turned down a 2 year, 48 million dollar extension before the season.
Yah - he’s getting less than that. I think it’ll be 2 yrs, $30-40M
That’s not a a lowball. If he was with 2/$48 over the summer, he’s worth less now. UNLESS there’s a deep chip run with postseason heroics.
2 more mill. 1 mill for each ring.
is what Im guessing
