Totally. It’s a basketball team, not a field trip down memory lane. I think it’s very unclear whether Klay can be great, mediocre or rotten for us at this time and in the playoffs, and there’s data yet to be collected. But the one thing that should not be much of a factor is “he scored 37 in a quarter that one time.” Let’s evaluate him as he is not as we remember him
Rewatching, Moody started awkwardly on O not knowing where to stand and kinda killing the spacing on some actions but he got better and better the more he played.
Hopefully his mins stay more consistent after that performance (and LQ’s corresponding not great mins)
The problem with Moody is that he's still too passive and lets things happen around him. Maybe he's a better fit in Dallas or something where his job would be to stand on the perimeter and be in a spot for Doncic & Irving. Makes his job so much simpler.
Remember, when KD went into his passive aggressive mode, and stood over in the corner, doing nothing. When asked why by the press, he said…coach told me to go there. Somebody telling Moody to go stand on the perimeter?
Katie was not being passive aggressive to the media, he was being passive aggressive to Kerr. Standing in the corner doing nothing was not exactly KD‘s style.
I’ve noticed this of Moody. He just stands around often. Maybe, that’s why Kerr hadn’t been playing him before. Last night, he was aggressive which is what you want to see.
A couple times in the game, the floor mic picked up someone yelling "Don't foul!" when a dub was driving into the lane to take a shot. I wonder if this is strategy by the Lakers to not just remind the players not to foul but to influence the refs into not calling a foul.
Yeah, as a big supporter a few years back, I'm pretty shocked that he either doesn't care or doesn't know how to contribute to winning basketball. Saw 2 different articles trashing him just today. His quote about being benched wasn't that encouraging either.
No. The only routes we had to sign DDV were MLE and vet min. Even if we had traded Poole for nothing, we would have been miles over the cap, so that would not have changed.
Charlotte is actually on a four game win streak, so if they're in trouble, it's in trouble of slipping out of contention for a top draft pick.
Now, their four wins are Memphis, Indiana, Atlanta, and Utah so not exactly a murder's row, and the four game win stream follows on the heels of a ten game losing streak. If we can limit the damage their serial domestic abuser causes (something they haven't been able to do themselves) we should have a good chance of winning.
Last note; they have wins vs Boston, @Sacramento, and @Minnesota, so definitely have the capability for an upset.
As a trans person I appreciate you Sleepy :) I'll note that trans isn't an insensitive term by itself, it's just inaccurate to what you were going for! If it makes you feel better, most of my friends (a mostly millennial and non-hick cohort) don't know the difference between trans, non-binary, or gender non-conforming people and mess up terms sometimes.
Thanks for the comment. Also, I know there are some great articles and websites defining these terms -if you have one or a few you think are particularly clear would you mind sharing them with this group?
Thanks for the thoughtful question! Most of my knowledge comes from in person friendships and on trans specific discords, but UCSF has a really thorough webpage on many aspects of trans care. Their definitions roughly align with how I think about the terms myself, so it's my typical online resource:
There's a lot of nuance that these definitions can't address, so the best way to understand what someone means is to just ask them. How I think about my transition and what I'm doing for it is different from another trans woman, and what someone who's trans and non-binary does might be different from what I do.

Warriors have ~114.5 defensive rating (roughly league average) for the first 3 quarters, and 123 defensive rating (worst in the league by two whole points) in the 4th quarter. Other interesting observation is that our rebounding rate drops from 52% (3rd in the league) to 50% (average), including our defensive rebounding rate dropping from 72% to 67%.
Offense, however, seems to be just fine in the 4th...
This is just pathetic, hilarious and sad from a sore loser. Wow, he’s as bad as players are with their excuses. And he’s a coach. Next, he’ll plead that they lost because they didn’t have their usual 30+ FTs. Lol!
Awesome article. I can't believe I didn't know that about Clifford Ray and that his randomly sitting next to Elizabeth Taylor on the plane wasn't even the big thing that happened to him that day. I'm still smiling.
Warriors are 6th in the West (and 10th in the league) by SRS, a rating which adjusts point differential by strength of schedule. Just need to convince the NBA to stop seeding by a silly thing like "team record" and they'll be good.
even more encouraging is that their SRS is steadily climbing -- was at 2 early in the season, dipped all the way to I think 0, now back up to 2.58. Closing in on the defending champ nuggets @ 3.57
Does being a stronger team always correlate to winning more close games? I guess I'm wondering if those tight losses are simply the combo of bad luck against tough opponents, or if there is some serious weakness that might make our Dubs underperform in those situations regardless of opponent.
As a comparison, though maybe for different reasons, I'd point to the Celtics of recent years, who are undoubtedly strong but couldn't close out against the good guys. My summary would be that they did not play smart basketball in crunch time... which also might be an apt description of why the Ws have been losing the squeakers this year.
> Does being a stronger team always correlate to winning more close games?
I doubt it, honestly. There have definitely been NFL studies that show minimal correlation in one score game team performances from season to season. I'm sure there have been NBA studies done as well but all I can find is this which shows almost no correlation between regular season and playoff clutch game records (was looking for season to season team records in the clutch though):
> But this discrepancy shouldn’t be a concern going forward; with rare exceptions, past clutch performance is not predictive of future clutch performance. The correlation between regular-season clutch winning percentage and postseason clutch winning percentage is negative-0.05, among teams with at least five clutch playoff games since the 2010-11 season—or basically zero, signifying no meaningful correlation at all. (Looking at all playoff teams in that span, even those with just one clutch playoff game, the correlation is a still-tiny 0.14.)
> The 2020-21 Bucks were 13-15 in clutch games in the regular season, then 7-2 in the playoffs en route to a title. The 2019-20 Heat were 18-18 in clutch games in the regular season, then 11-3 in the playoffs. The 2011-12 76ers had the worst clutch regular-season performance among all playoff teams in this span, with a 7-20 mark—then went 6-2 in the playoffs.
EDIT: I wish Ringer articles had to be sourced lol, this author sounds like they are citing something but perhaps they did the calculations themselves.
That's not the only difference; they've also padded that weak-azz record with weak-azz LEastern Conference teams. TWELVE Western Conference teams have +0.500 records against the East this year to date: https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/west-vs-east-winning-percentage-this-season. Imagine what it would be if West teams played East teams more than twice!
I may have missed a discussion of this since I do not always watch live and so usually miss the in game stuff, but in the 3rd quarter, Dray hit a 3 from the left baseline. I have a vague memory of Fitz saying recently that Dray hadn't hit a 3 in a second half all season. If fitz was announcing, I'm sure he would have said something, but since it wasn't I don't know if this wasn't actually Dray's first 3 in a second half or the national guys just didn't know about that stat. Anyone here know?
Yeah, was curious about that. Fitz has said no 2nd half 3's a few times, so I'm guessing it must be true. It'd be nice for Dray to be a 3-point threat in 2nd half too. All his 2nd half misses look like he doesn't use his legs enough.
I was previously of the opinion that his baseline 3s were way more reliable than those above the break but this season he's been hitting those straight on 3's early but not late so maybe he should work for baseline 3s in the second half (on Tuesdays with odd numbered dates if he had Thai food the night before but only if they play an eastern conference team ...)
I could get used to being a winning team, but even more than that, we seem to have dialed down the stupidity.
Our last three games ... 9, 11, 9 turnovers ... that's not good, that's great. And one of those games was against the Clippers (who have some ball hawks other than Kawhi, who sat).
I assume most of this is the Draymond effect, but Klay was good passing last night (let's not mention his shooting).
When we are a low turnover team AND pushing pace, I think we're pretty hard to beat. It's kind of been a godsend to have Podz in there for Paul because he pushes pace, and still takes care of the ball.
And if they could eliminate ones like the 3 absolutely horrendous no reason for them turnovers last night (most egregiously the one where Podz threw the ball on the ground behind TJD's back when he wasn't looking and the Laker's player just ran and grabbed it) then it would be even better.
You had me at "it's always funny watching Windhorst." I don't know what qualifications that guy brings. But then again front offices tend to talk to him, it appears.
He is from Akron and glued his career to LeBron's and hey, good for him, I guess. But I can't say I've learned much from the guy.
FYI Game thread scheduled for 3pm today.
(To avoid cluttering the page, I will delete all replies to this.)
Ok after 3 games in my WHO IS KLAY REALLY, RIGHT NOW, NO EXTRA POINTS FOR HISTORICAL EXCELLENCE study, we have:
1 terrible game
1 great game
1 mixed game (last night - shot like pure garbage but did good things on D, and the passing, especially to TJD was notable.
Prove it Klay!
His passing and defense were great last night. 5 assists, many to TJD, and there were passes that could've been assists but didn't get converted.
Alc loved his play last night in spite of the 1 for 9.

KD's passive aggressive response to the media should not be taken at face value, imo...

The Jordan Poole slow motion train wreck is mindblowing.

At least we had to good sense to cut anchor with him and JW when we could. Even if we got nothing back it would have been a win.
could we have paid ddv instead though?
No. The only routes we had to sign DDV were MLE and vet min. Even if we had traded Poole for nothing, we would have been miles over the cap, so that would not have changed.
Relieved to not have to watch him on the Dubs, but I still want him to succeed.
What a loser
"I don't know anything about Charlotte, but they in trouble."

Chuckster 92 Olympics. Angola?
Mr. Teal for the win!
He really became a star during the Dream Team.
Wilbur the pig, in the updated version of Charlotte's Web in which Charlotte is non-binary?
Not trans- “they them” would be non-binary ;)
Ah, thank you! I knew there was a more accurate and sensitive term that didn’t make me sound like the Gen-X hick I am. Fixed!
Wait, I thought you were older than me and I’m on the Gen X/Boomer cusp.

I can’t imagine adding Chris Paul to the closing line-up helps with this.
I can; turnovers often lead to easy offense in transition, and CP is nothing if not amazing at limiting turnovers.
I was responding to the defensive rebounding and defense dropping off in the 4th quarter.

Darvin Ham says Anthony Davis lost his voice and that it affected the team’s defense in the loss to the Warriors tonight, via

Darvin Ham: Look, I'm not going to make any excuses for tonight but it's really hard to play a basketball game when the AC at the hotel is broken.

KAT got his tongue.

This guy. This guy is a professional victim at this point.
Maybe LeBron is rubbing off on him. Get Ham help.
Wankers, the lot of them
Real question is why would he need the AC on in the bay.
In 45 degree weather. Excellent question.
What's worse than losing your voice is losing your heart
On a related note, I lost my number two pencil and was unable to feed Draymond the right plays, so our offense suffered a bit.
Great article in the Athletic ($) about former Warrior Clifford Ray:

all those 1 point losses are rough for the net rating to record conversion
More TJD More TJD More TJD! and Moses too.
Leastern Conference strikes once again... ATL is sitting at the same slot as we are on their side but the only difference is their record is 24-31.

Per Windhorst, the Warriors have had their four most prolific offensive scoring games since...
1989.
Woah.
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OtcAvN6zKqQ
(PS: it's always funny watching Windhorst be bullish on the Warriors after the Warriors beat a LeBron team)
The fact that he has to use the word "suspensions" instead of "suspension" is WILD, but sigh.
You had me at "it's always funny watching Windhorst." I don't know what qualifications that guy brings. But then again front offices tend to talk to him, it appears.

NBA expert Windhorst a couple weeks ago: “Wiggins is having a *terrible* rebounding season.”
(Checks numbers) best rebounding rate of his career.
That’s why they pay these guys the big bucks…
The 2024 offensive explosion continues
Probably true of a few teams this year.
It's like the NFL on steroids (i.e., normal NFL). No defense allowed.
*unless it’s on steph
That problem is unfixable. The refs are just conditioned to think Steph flops, I'm almost certain (rightly or wrongly).
That's the downside of him adopting falling to the floor as a way to protect his ankles a decade ago.
