Warriors hit halfway point of the season with quality win over Blazers
41 games down and we still don't know exactly who the heck these Warriors are. Time for a change?
Okay Dub Nation HQ, checking in on the halfway point of the season. Our Dubs are 22-19 on the season, after getting a big win over the Portland Trail Blazers last night.
The Dubs are now sitting in the 8th spot right now in a wacky Western Conference. Golden State is ranked sixth in defense and 15th in offense at the time of this writing while still receiving vintage performances from Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler on a consistent basis.
But former lottery pick Jonathan Kuminga is functionally out of the rotation, with trade rumors flying left and right. The Golden State Warriors can trade Kuminga starting January 15, 2026, as his new contract's trade restriction lifts on that date. Tonight it’s January 14th, ruh rohhhh.
It fascinates me that Coach Kerr has been more vocal than ever about his own personal critics in the final year of his contract. Did you see Kerr joking about having done so poorly in his fantasy football league that it called him the worst gameday manager in the league? Or heard him being glad his mom doesn’t follow the NBA so she can’t ask him questions about JK or his substitution patterns?
I’d bet he and the front office are sharing a massive amount of nagging pressure to get something more out of the Stephen Curry dynasty era. Something like turning the former #7th overall pick Kuminga into either a monster on the court or a trade chip. Considering JK isn’t playing anymore, it’s pretty clear they’re looking at him like bait for a player swap.
Remember the Kerr quote about Kuminga being in the “exact boat” as Andrew Wiggins was last year?? We all know that boat was a trade ship! It left Wiggins Island at high velocity with heavy hearts all around, sent out to in exchange for an All-Star in the aforementioned Butler.
Btw, Curry is still making history every night folks. I’m sure you heard he’s the most ethical hooper of all time: in his career he has knocked down more three-pointers (4201) than made free throws (4190). I guess he figured that he’s not getting the calls he deserves so he should just rains hellfire from 35 feet away. But that stat truly boggles the mind for how otherworldly of a shooter he truly is.
He and his father Dell moved into second all-time in points scored by a Father-Son duo in the NBA, passing Joe “Jellybean” Bryant and his son the late great hoop legend Kobe.
Curry ranks 9th in the NBA this season in scoring at 28.1 points per game. He’s knocking down a league leading 4.6 treys per game. and his FT% of 92.9% is good for second in the league. Curry giving his heart and soul for a team that is fighting to stay out of the play-in tournament has been a sight far too common in recent years for Dub Nation’s liking. He’s 37 years old folks!
Last season the trade for Butler rejuvenated the squad into a playoff berth and a first round upset over the #2 seed. Are they looking for some more of that kinda juice at the trade deadline? My goldblooded guess: ABSOLUTELY. They can’t waste Curry’s prime, amirite?
Aiite HQ, let me know what you think is going to go down once Kuminga is eligible. The poll is now live.
