Oh damn. Get well soon, Deki! Dude was fierce competitor as a player, but from what I’ve seen looks like a fun-loving dude on the Dubs.

Heard third hand that Wiggins has been forced away from 100% commitment to bball for husband and dad duties. Makes sense but this game ain't for the partially involved.

If this is true, he's making a ton of money and costing lacob a ton in taxes for not being mentally invested in the game.

Seems like it would have been best for all of he took the year off to deal with whatever he needs to while not hamstringing the dubs. Not just about the finances but the locker room and on the court.

Makes total sense. I’ve been advocating trading him (basically for anything we can get, e.g. Lonzo Ball), largely to free up minutes for Moses and Jon, who I think are both slightly better players at this point, and both more “100% committed” -looking in their minutes on the floor. But I hope any trade they make does not make his family situation any more difficult than it is (and ideally improves it? Chicago is close to Toronto and Minnesota. If he still has family ties in either place…)

Man, this Amateur GM job is hard work. 😞

unknown guys can score as much as allstars this season.

milwaukee game: (kuminga+podz=51 pts) vs. (lillard+middleton=51 pts)

memphis game: (curry+klay=35 pts) vs. (v. williams+g. jackson=47 pts)

Are we still calling Klay an All Star?

Kerr said after the last loss that Wiggins is playing much better now than he did at the start of the year. While Kerr is 100% correct in his assessment, I can only hope it’s a blatant attempt to increase trade value. Wiggins going from the worst player in the league level, to only bad enough to cost the team 18 point leads with 6 min to go in the 4th and instantly stop any run the team might be on in the third isn’t really going to lead to many wins. And it would be nice to see what the team could do without trying to overcome a brutal Wiggins stint 3 out of every 4 games.

But hey he had a good game against the Grizz and carried the team against that perennial playoff team right?

It's so frustrating to watch these games now. It is the most incompetent coaching I've seen in a very long time.

(1)Klay is clearly not playing well. Allowing your SG to play over 30 min and only generate 9 pts, 0 reb, 0 stls, 0 blcks, & 0 FTs is catastrophic. It is very hard to win when your SG position generates those results. And yet it happens time and time again. If anybody else plays those minutes, the Warriors would have a winning record right now. I love Klay but his extended min are absolutely killing the team.

(2) Kerr seems to have changed his defensive strategy since the first few weeks of the season, and its one of the worst defensive concepts I have ever seen. The Warriors play their guards inside the paint on almost every possession, allowing opponents' best 3 shooters to shoot wide open 3s. This strategy is absolutely killing the Warriors. It happens almost every possession. To give up 40+ points in a quarter & 9 3s at well over a 50% clip is not only embarrassing but it is almost impossible to overcome. I can't understand why Kerr uses this defense. It is one of the worst concepts I've ever seen. GP, Wiggins, JK, Moody, Podz, TJD, Draymond, are solid defenders with quickness and long winsgspans. They should be playing hard nosed, straight up man to man defense. Warriors are at their best when they get stops, create turnovers and generate easy points in transition. Thats when Curry, Klay, Wigs are at their best.

The only saving grace for me is that despite how poorly Kerr, Klay, Wiggins, Draymond (missed games), Looney, and sometimes Curry are playing this year, the Warriors are so dang close to winning alot of these games - especially against some of these elite NBA teams. So there is hope. But unless there are major changes made at the coaching/strategic level, I don't think the Warriors can right this ship.

Detroit has also lost quite a few close games. The conventional wisdom is to beat the teams you should beat and to defend the home court. The Dubs have done neither very well.

For about 60 seconds after one of the more unfortunate games in 2020 there was a video on BR of Joe Lacob running down the hall, hurling himself in the air, flailing his arms, and screaming at the top of his lungs (with a bevy of little aides and aidettes trundling after him.). Video quickly disappeared.

I cannot imagine what he did after this Grizzlies game. :)

They are in a funk, for sure. Last night was simple carelessness. My thought is that they thought they could take the game any time they wanted so they allowed open threes and were surprised the Memphis scrubs hit nearly all of them.

There is a lot of talent on this team and a ton of experience. It wasn’t that long ago they started the season with a string of road wins. Things were looking great. Now, after a string of close losses fueled by injuries and suspensions, Memphis happens. Blow-out games don’t just happen to bad teams. Trade or no trade, there is still time to figure this out. There is just too much talent and experience here. Not sure what the Vegas odds are on making the playoffs, but I’d consider that easy money.

Steph was going off in the beginning of the year.

At least in his yearly slump he looks engaged. He just looks so out of it, and one of the big problems we have, our defense, is largely due to him.

Seems like Looney’s early clunkiness , Klay’s often playing catch-up, CP III size and slowness, Draymond‘s absence, Kuminga’s cluelessness sometimes, Moody‘s lack of athleticism, Sarić’s slowness, etc. had something to do with the poor defense. Seems that the subpar defense was a team effort.

N.b. All of them did very well at other times.

I’m not saying others don’t have a part in it, but Steph either is just too old to play defense or is not putting in nearly as much effort. It’s even more apparent with him because he already got targeted a lot but at least he’d hold his own.

Here's one from today's Dunc'd On podcast (NOT reporting, just a made up trade idea):

Moses Moody and Kevon Looney to ORL for Wendell Carter Jr.

I'm guessing most folks here would dislike it. I would be really sad about it because I love Kevon, but otherwise don't have much of an opinion either way. Just placing it here because... well, because.

Edit: I guess I should add that the pitch, from the GS perspective, was that Carter is a big who could be effective playing alongside Draymond, both offensively and defensively. Switchable, good rim protection, and can shoot a bit.

Expand full comment

Kevon seems to have lost most of the extra weight/mass he came into the season with. And he seems to getting back to his old rebounding self. He even, wonder of all wonders, hit a jumpshot. I hope they don’t trade him, as he fills a gap that neither Sarić nor GP2, nor TJ D can.

Agreed. And I hope even more that they don’t “throw in” Moses — a 21 year old stud with all the traits of a versatile 10-year starting NBA wing — for the super-marginal upgrade from Looney to WCJ.

Rumor is IND is offering for Siakam: Bruce Brown Jr, salary matching, three first round picks.

Sounds challenging for GSW to match that.

Dear Daniel, I’m too sad for answering the poll.

I don’t have the BB skills most of You have, but I cannot imagine now any corrective action to try to save season and hope the play-in.

7 months ago I would have written “please keep the Trio Core until the end of their playing life, whatever it takes”, but now it’s painful like any possible trade.

Other than a remote hope of, at best, a first round playoff exit, there is no hope for this season. Any thought of making desperation trades should be shut down. If Dunleavy takes the view that he'll wait to re-tool in the off-season, the entire trade deadline market changes as the Dubs will become sellers rather than buyers. That the price to pry JK, or any of the other young guns, loose will be much higher. Might even get some offers that are actually worth considering.

It adds insult to injury when the Warriors aren't doing well that the Clippers are. I've either written off as injury-prone (Kawhi, PG) or mocked (Westbrook, Harden) or questioned (Lue, Zubac) their entire team and yet: are they good? Maybe they're good? Are they good?

Amazing to see how a team of three 30+ year olds in the starting unit can be so good on offense and defense - unfortunately its not the warriors but the clippers. Kwahi locking down SGA in crunch time is incredible to see! And the clippers have three players who can go off for 20+ any game!
