Vassel here as well. The Warriors don't need the Ball Family Circus and while I get that LaMelo was only 18, a 0.375 FG% in what is essentially a good college conference league isn't anything to get excited about. I dare say that Vassel could have scored 92 points in a high school game if he didnt play defense and hung out at half court waiting for passes from players that did. Almost any top prospect could, and that's LaMelo's primary claim to fame. That said, I respect any family that calls out the NCAA and NBA over their indentured servitude program.
Vaseline. Damn auto correct. Maybe that will be his nickname. Smooth jumper. Vassell. Becoming obvious the W’s should trade down and take a defender who can shoot rather than a top 5 “prospect.”
Not only is Vassel an elite shooter, but he has also demonstrated that he has versatiltiy in his game with good touch/body control which seems to indicate excellent potential in close outs. His cutting is strong and he consistently hits the swing pass/lob so I'm not too worried about his passing. Defensively, Vassel plays with a constant motor (important since half of defense is effort) and has demonstrated the ability to close out effectively (essential in the modern NBA). Most importantly, he has demonstrated to be an incredibly effective team defender which is an excellent indicator of whether his defense will translate to the NBA.
His sole negative on defense that I've seen was a weakness against screens which can be improved through better footwork/positioning. His main negative for me is his lack of ball handling abilities, but the need for ball handling is minimized with the Warriors and he can improve on that slowly over time.
Tough call. I love LaMelo's passes, but his shot is almost as ugly as that eFG%. He has some other good skills and great potential.
But, damn, Vassell can defend. His offense is not impressive, but it's respectable. That's probably good enough, but it makes me wonder if I'm making a mistake.
Vassell who I would not be completely shocked if he ends up being the best player coming out the draft 5 years from now because of his work ethic , and you can tell he’s been working on his handles and over all game https://youtu.be/3iWNQyzW-VM at about the 2:30 mark he says “ I’m ready to go to what ever team and help them win a championship , however I can Offensively, defensively” And I believe him Vassell 💯
Vassell. Unless the Warriors really are light years ahead and traded Dlo so they could get another guard that doesn’t play D in the draft. But this time it’s a guard that also can’t shoot.
It’s unclear why the Warriors are linked to so many mediocre overseas performers, but let’s succeed with Smiley before taking in another one.
This is essentially the same situation as the last matchup. Once again, we must ask ourselves who can help the Warriors win RIGHT NOW?" The answer, in almost every scenerio, is not LaMelo Ball. Usually here I'd write a bit talking about the player who I'm not choosing's upside, but honestly I'm just simply not a fan of Ball's game. I personally think that he's a guy coming into the league with a lot of big holes in his game and expectations for him to be great. Moreover, we already know that the Warriors dont plan to play a 3 guard lineup from the DLo trade.
Devin Vassell is an archetype of the Dubs ideal player;: 6'6" wing with lockdown defending skills and just as importantly, the ability to shoot threes. Although not my first choice in this draft, I would have no problem with Golden State selecting a guy like this. Sign me up for Vassell.
On ball defense, help defense, catch and shoot? Vassell for sure. Although I do think Lamelo will do great in the league, think it's a no brainer that Vassell fits the dubs need better.
It depends where the Warriors draft. In no way do I think Ball should be selected by the Warriors with the intent of actually playing for them. His only value is in a trade.
Vassel also shouldn't be drafted in the top 5. However, if the Warriors trade down, then he may make sense.
If I had to choose between the two, I'd take Vassel. Ball has too many holes in his game (shooting, physicality, defense, effort), which are the very skills the Warriors need now, not years down the road. It will take Ball too long to round out his game to where he's more than just a passer. Also, his dad is a needless headache.
Vassel's defense and shooting would fill major holes on the Warriors roster. He's easily the better fit.
Very close vote on Twitter. A complete rout by Vassell Army here at LGW. Vassell cruising to victory with a 67.4%-32.6% weighted vote lead now.
Vassell for me.

Can't say it better than Drewyr221... Vassell

Vassell as he sounds like a better Harrison Barnes

Vassell. Easy. He's a perfect fit. Ball is a fine prospect, but just belongs elsewhere.
