I think Wemby is the only guy I've seen get guarded like Steph. He regularly has three dudes on him.

All of the NBA teams are throwing everything but the kitchen sink at him to see what works or not.

Ok, gonna watch the new Knives Out instead of the rest of this game. OKC isn't gonna lose for a long time

Go see “The Secret Agent”! Possibly my favorite movie of the year to date? Kind of like a smarter, wittier, weirder, more stylish, and just generally more enjoyable version of One Battle After Another (which I liked, but not nearly as much…)

Lol 4 Thunder players surrounding Wemby and he just goes and takes the offensive rebound

Jaylin Williams has been letting it rip this season from deep and I thought he was having a breakout year but looking as his stats he's actually just chucking it lol

Last time against OKC Curry looked really gassed in his first game back. This time he didn't. Is it a coincidence that this time he played a lot of his minutes (until crunch time) with Spencer? There seems to be a lot of "Kerr doesn't know what he's doing by starting Spencer at the 2" sentiment going on today but isn't it not just possible but likely that Kerr played Curry with Spencer so much to allow Curry to not have to do everything to initiate the offense in his first game back? Doubt he's starting next game, or if he's starting next game then I'm almost certain he's not starting the game after that.

I'd prefer he just play Steph fewer minutes if he's not quite in game shape yet than pair him with a guard the same size as him, but that's just me.

If Curry/Spencer was like Curry/Wiseman in terms of destroying the Curry minutes then I could see that but I really don't think that's the case.

Last time against OKC Steph had been really sick and was apparently not fully recovered. Different situation.

Expand full comment
belilaugh's avatar

Well it's too bad that a sick Steph Curry didn't have someone like Spencer to initiate the offense for him in that game, could have made things a lot easier on him like it did in this one.

I watched the NY-Orlando cup semis and the broadcasters were taking about Gravity - I thought we referred to Stephs “gravity” as a concept but apparently now it is a real stat!!!!

They were raving about how Jalen Brunson has gravity - and then the stat was put out - he was #26 in the NBA - darn - so who are the top 5 -Anybody know where to find it.

All I could find was this site:

https://www.nbastuffer.com/how-gravity-impact-nba-offense/

And I am not sure AI is doing a good job, as below is the apparent “Gravity” list for this season

1 Nikola Jokić Denver Nuggets High

2 Luka Dončić Los Angeles Lakers High

3 Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Oklahoma City Thunder High

4 Giannis Antetokounmpo Milwaukee Bucks High

5 Victor Wembanyama San Antonio Spurs High

6 Stephen Curry Golden State Warriors High

7 Tyrese Maxey Philadelphia 76ers Medium

8 Brandon Ingram Toronto Raptors Medium

I doubt these stats account for off ball gravity which would have Curry as the #1 guy by far presumably.

So google gemini ranks are following

1 - STEPH

2. Luka

3. Jokić

4. Giannis

.

.

7. KD

Just imagine what a Steph-Giannis team could do!!!

Spurs 0/10 from three on mostly very open shots, as if OKC needed to benefit from shooting variance

Giannis's preference for his next team according to Chris B Haynes:

-in a position to compete for a championship

-"I think he would like to have some sun"

-be in a big market

...

say no more. Welcome to San Francisco! or Miami. In all seriousness I'm pretty sure Lacob would force MDJ to sell the entire farm if he ever gives the green light to come here.

the big issue here is “compete for championship” — he cant be seeing the warriors in their current state as “compete for championship” but he cant be seeing Miami either - Orlando Magic though, thats attractive

Hot take: every year we should (in rough order):

- go for the 'big fish' (Giannis, KD, etc)

- try to get a 'lesser' star (Murphy?) using most of the non-core players and at least 3 picks (almost half of those will be swaps which will probably never trigger)

- If that fails, try to trade 3 or 4 role-players (in this year's case, Buddy, Moody, Podz, maybe even Horford) + this year's unprotected pick for the BPA for that price

- go after a position of need with a few players and one 1st, but keep almost everyone else (JK + someone for a big man, but not a Zubac-level one)

- stand pat (Pat? sorry)

- trade JK for a worse contract + picks

Even hotter takes(?):

- We should always trade the curent year's pick(s) for a player

- We should always try to accumulate 1st round picks, even through we'd never use them to draft a player

The Aiyuk era for the 49ers appears to be officially over. At least for his season.

cpt nemo's avatar

Strange but sad parallels between Aiyuk and JK (not in terms of personality) but in terms of how it might end for each with the teams that drafted them!

JK never seemed to have a “people” problem but Aiyuk apparently showed signs of not being a team player and many were surprised the 49ers gave him that deal!!

Stats I wasn't previously aware of: JK is the Warriors leader in rebounds per game. Richards is shooting over 70% on 2 point shots, which is wild.

I'd like to see the Steph-Melton-Jimmy-Dray core play a bunch of games together before giving up on the season, but it does seem like the end of the road for Kuminga.
