I am proposing the ultimate "Be careful What You Wish for" Mega-team mega-trade. Steph-Klay-Dray-Wiggs-Moody-J Dub-Kuminga & Poole all going out. Coming in: Lillard, Beale, LaMelo Ball, Simmons, and pick up Marc Gasol, Aldridge, Millsap, Patty Mills & Nic Batum with midlevels and minimums. We get everyone we have had to suffer through trade rumors and FA pick ups for the last year and a half. We get everyone that everyone has been crying for that would obviously help make us a Championship team. If they are all so great, wouldn't they be a Championship team on their own? Hell, I'm sold. Heading to Trade Checker now. If I'm not back in 3 days, someone call 911. LOL

I was hoping there would have been some videos of D.Lee selling fouls. I forget if it was Fitz or Buke, but I remember one of them commenting D.Lee looks like he gets electrocuted when he takes a small slap on the wrist.

Expand full comment

The other thread has DLee spazzing mid air against Toronto.

Expand full comment

Yeah - turns out It was Apricot that said D.Lee looked like he got electrocuted and spontaneously combusted while in midair a second after he was lightly grabbed. Should have know Fitz and Buke wouldn’t have been watching the game that closely, but Apricot would!

Are any of the Warriors players not vaccinated yet?

Is the sudden Warriors news that a Draymond for Simmons trade might be possible a clap back by the FO to Draymond’s KD conversation?

Expand full comment

Nah. Pretty sure FO aren't losing sleep over Dray/KD. However, as an organization, you have to at least kick the tires on Simmons. You have to convince yourself 100 times why it is or isn't the right move. The talent is undeniable, but I will say a thousand times, culture and character matter to this team. If Simmons can't get in front of a mic and say, "Hey, I got in my own head, I let my team and the fans down, and I promise I can do better," then he clearly lacks self awareness and any sense of humility. Add to that his actions since then, how many red flags do we need? Culture matters, around these parts anyway. Simmons is an incredible talent. But in the Klutch, what we all saw was a guy who was thinking about himself in the biggest moments, rather than thinking about the team. Who wants to pay out 147m over the next however many years for that?

He was born to be a Sacramento King and have his jersey retired there. ;-)

Or is it just true… and the reporter just isn’t reporting the second half of the comment: “and there’s no way we’re giving up Dray, so…”

Expand full comment

Can we at least table every single ridiculous trade rumor until we have seen Steph-Klay-Dray on the court together for a couple months fully healthy? It's like the whole world got the Men in Black flashy thing to erase the memory of what those guys did together.

With Andre too.

And Looney, aka, the 5th Beatle.

I hope they start Steph, Klay, Andre, Dray, and Looney for Andre's last home game before retirement.

How about Payton-Moody-Andre-Kuminga-Wiseman, make them play the full 48 minutes, and Steph-Klay-Dray-Loon can laugh their asses off on the bench the whole night. lol

Isn't Ben Simmons with "Klutch" Sports Group? Isn't that a little off-brand.

He’s going with the holding on too tightly definition.

Man I dis Ront Artest yesterday, and today theguardian has a piece about how he has become a mental health.advocate especially for young people. The NBA doesn't seem to be nearly as good as the NFL in producing bad apples, but I suppose the greatly fewer episodes of head trauma might have something to do with that.

I’m still not a big fan, but it’s very clear he was dealing with mental health issues during most of his career.

If y’all haven’t seen it, the Netflix doc about the Malice at the Palace is a really good watch with former Warriors Uncle Jermaine and Stephen Jackson being featured prominently in the interviews.

Expand full comment

My takeaways from the documentary:

1. More than anything I feel bad for Reggie and Jermaine.

2. The Piston's fans they interviewed came away looking just like the d-bags that they appeared to be.

3. I had no idea Jamaal Tinsley in essence instigated the whole situation.

4. About Metta, I feel for the guy. He was dealing with severe mental health issues and kept saying he just wanted to escape. The fact that he has turned his life into something positive is nothing short of a miracle.

Expand full comment

Yeah, I REALLY felt for Jermaine especially. I hadn’t realized that had followed him around for so long.

I’d forgotten Jermaine was part of it. I’d mostly thought of him as the normal progression timeline for a top tier HS big.

I highly recommend his interview on ATS.

“Konnichiwa.” Two Ns. “Kon” = this. “Nichi” = day. “Wa” = Is (more or less).

Or こんにちは (hiragana) Or 今日は (kanji).

Did you mean to say good day or hello, though? If not, goodbye in Japanese is of course “sayonara.” See ya is “jaa, mata” or “mata ne.” Good luck (probably most appropriate in this case) is “ganbatte!”

But … why Japanese? See Vignette’s or Captain Jack’s posts for what I think are the appropriate equivalents in Korean.

I liked Omari, and I felt for him when he got traded. He really seemed to do all right with the Warriors and was getting his head back on. It's too bad he was added as filler/salary dump. I hope he does well in Korea and that he makes it back to the NBA, though he seems a marginal NBA talent.

Expand full comment

NBA to Korean league is a huge drop. He went from playing with Trae Young to playing with Tae-Yeoung (no joke).

Expand full comment

LMAO. Awesome. It's not a huge drop if you take into account the authentic Korean food he's gonna be eating.

I’ll certainly wish him well every time I watch Anyang KGC.

I trust you’ll do a few E1P’s to track his play throughout the season.

OT but who is your guys starting 5 (active players) for BBIQ?

I'm taking Steph, Doncic, Lebron, Draymond and Jokic

Expand full comment

CP3, Steph, LeBron, Iguodala, Jokic

Expand full comment

Oh snap! Great topic. LeBron, Dray & Jokic no doubt. But I think Steph & Doncic are on the list more because of their great abilities (can just get lost in their own world of greatness), and thus, in my mind, on the bubble. I would have to suggest Playoff Rondo & Lowry as candidates. And, he is still in the league, drum roll please, Andre Iguodala over Doncic. That's an easy one for me. LeBron is the outlier here. He is the guy who combines the superior skill and ability with the IQ. Outside of him, I think the IQ prizes go to guys who lack the superior abilities and have had to make a living using their smarts. My list probably goes: Rondo, Iggy, LeBron, Dray, Jokic. Again, great topic.

Not sure what my top 5 for BBIQ would be... but my top 5 for BBQ would be:

Jerry Steakhouse, Kalbi Bryant, Grilled Oystertag, John Salmons, and Seth "The Milder" Curry

😂 haha! thanks... I know it's bad form to laugh at your own jokes (right?) but when I came back and re-read "Grilled Oystertag" I nearly spit out my water. Pretty sure I wrote that out at the peak of my 4th shot (espresso... or was it whisky?)

I'll jump on the bad form myself, former post I felt went under radar but one of my personal favorites: "Pacers going ALL IN on Win-Now to take advantage of Chris Duarte's prime." Thank you Pacers for giving us Moody!

I think it won’t be long before we’re looking for a spot for Halliburton in the starting lineup.

Expand full comment

Probably super unpopular here but CP3 has a solid argument over Steph for this (if nothing else lol). And Iggy deserves to be the 6th man.

Expand full comment

You know what, that's a fair take. CP3 is a pretty smart fellow on the court outside of his annoying tactics.

I wouldn't argue that either, with the caveat that his BBIQ seems to drop in the playoffs compared to the regular season.

Also d Lee's floater is excellent

I definitely felt like Lee's COVID case was one of the strokes of bad luck that stopped us from getting into the postseason proper. Heck, with how close the play-in games were, he could have tipped either game the other way with his steady, gritty, veteran plays. (Just having another guy who knows what he's doing so the core guys could get another few minutes per game of rest down the stretch would have been nice.)

And, sure, Damion's a shooter first and foremost, but he also adds a lot of awesome extra sauce. How many times do you remember hearing Fitz call out, "Lee is in the middle of everything good right now!" as he snatches contested rebounds or draws a charge that stops an opponent's transition opportunity flat? Sneakily, steadily as his career has gone on, he's had more and more of those games where the other team was just NOT READY for Lee to tear them apart.

Plus, I love that he has the guts to take (and make!) the game-winner with the seconds counting down, even when Stephen friggin' Curry is on the court just a few feet away.

His COVID case sounded pretty bad, so I'm hoping 🤞 that there are no lingering effects on his stamina/wind since that's not unheard of even in otherwise healthy people. Besides that? I'm not worried about this guy's play. He can keep doing the stuff he does and that'll be plenty.

Sure, he has his cold streaks and his limitations, but Damion Lee continues to be a fantastic guy to have in the rotation and will likely add a few of his own buckets to the Dubs' next championship.

Expand full comment

Agree with all this! Lee also showed much more physicality than I’d previously remembered last season. He always struck me as a finesse guy but he was more scrappy, used his body and even picked up a couple of techs for rough-housing. I’m not a fan of technical fouls that serve no purpose (cough cough, Draymond, cough cough), but loved seeing Lee mixing it up.

Expand full comment

Having Damion Lee is the reason losing Bazemore didn’t bother me in the least. I prefer his steady and improving play, his ability to makes 3’s in places besides the corners and his lack of recklessness.

Easy choice; one left for more playing time for himself and the other has taken it upon himself to mentor Moody.

Expand full comment

Yep.

Well-put

Expand full comment

I love d lee and feel hes super underappreciated by the fanbase n coaching staff, he could have easily taken mulder's minutes last season. Hes a good defender, good rebounder, plays his heart and makes the right play more times then not

Expand full comment

Yeah, it’s easy to imagine a better finish to the season if Lee had been available down the stretch, beyond just an extra body.

I love Hoops Report! Shit always gets me pumped

Expand full comment

Good work! Having D. Lee as the near the end of the bench depth means your team is in good shape. I expect him to eat up a lot of early game minutes this year and hopefully flop less. There's a fine line between selling the call and flopping like a Harden Fish on land.

Expand full comment

Eh kinda hope he perfects his flop game even more. Lowkey one of DLee's greatest strengths and works great when boxing out/rebounding as well as offense. Obviously he'll have to adjust to the new rules and hopefully flop less just like the rest of league. But I don't think it's bad to have a role player who understands how most teams get their free points every game, especially when your star players seem hopelessly focused on just making their shots.

Expand full comment

We can win without flopping. We don't have to resort to CP3 tactics. The basketball gods will always reward those who respect the art of the game. I guess you can argue that TP and Ginobili were freaking floppers and still won but Timmy made up for their basketball sins

Expand full comment

BTW I don't actually feel that type of way on this subject. I'll just pretend to go get some water every time D Lee flops
