Trayce Jackson-Davis post game quotes; Podz shoots decently; Gui hurt; Rockets rain zillions of threes
Update: last SL game Sat Jul 15 12:00pm vs TOR

Box Score and Quick Notes
Brandin Podziemski scored 10 PTS, 6 AST, 3 REB, 1 STL on 4-8 shooting (2-5 from three). This is a respectable box score, especially compared to the nightmare fuel of the rest of Summer. He created a bunch of offense today, had good defensive rotations and didn’t get roasted much.
No word on Gui Santos injury yet, but I assume he’s done with Summer League.
Trayce took a while to warm up, but he looked good. Especially considering HOU played a cheesy 5-out offense a fair amount.
There will be a fifth Las Vegas game, but no one knows what day, what hour or what location. That’s how badly the SL Warriors played. Should be announced tomorrow.
Trayce quotes after the game
How did it feel getting back out there on the court, Summer League debut?
It went well. Honestly, I feel like in the first half, I had a little pregame jitters. Just getting back out there for the first time in two weeks. Can't ask for anything more. Obviously, we want to win games, but I think end of the day it's an experience.
What have the last two weeks been like for you?
I was just itching. I was itching to get out there. After the Draft, getting out to Golden State, working out for the first five or six days, and then having the little hammy issue that I had. It hurts, but at the same time, just watching them cheering on my teammates, trying to be a good teammate so I was ready to get back out here and it was really fun today.
You feel like you got through this game well physically?
I didn't have any pain. Just got to keep continuing to rehab, just in case. Overall I felt good. I'm just going to continue to get my minutes more and more, hopefully, for our next game.
I think it was just a little bit of a wear and tear type of incident just because I went straight from all my draft workouts flying across the country and then the next week going straight into workouts at Golden State. So just a little bit of wear and tear. something that my body wasn't accustomed to, but it's something that has never happened to me before.
What was that first dunk like?
It felt good. The first two points as a dunk, I like tearing the rim down, so getting that as a dunk was a pretty cool experience.
How did you feel out there in terms of speed?
It was fast. At first I thought it was really fast, but in the second half I thought I settled down. I thought I got accustomed to the game speed and I started playing a lot better. I started finding spots in the game floor that I can make an impact. And then defensively, I thought it was good. Started out-playing them, especially with playing guys that are like 6'7", 6'5", so I can work on my on-ball defense.
Apricot's In-Game Notes
I’m pleased TJD’s post game comments confirmed my in-game perceptions of his getting used to game speed.
Have I mentioned I have an irrational good feeling about TJD? Let’s see if that feeling survives summer league
Hi BP, I believe in you too by the way. Just not as irrationally.
Waiting for the previous game to end
Okay, screw Elam, let's have a shootout, one free throw at a time, soccer style
I like the Elam ending for games I care about, but today... let's just call it a tie. Who says no?
Podz with a better game so far. Created more advantages, lots of open shots.
TJD initially looked like he never knew what the play was. Then he got bodied on the boards for the first quarter. And he had a couple of unexpected passes bounce off him.
In Q2, TJD seems to have caught up a little to game speed. Wonderful interior pass from Podz to Trayce. (1:22 of first video)
At start of Q3 a supernaturally good pass from LQ to Trayce. Either that or it was a lucky deflection. (1:50 of first video)
HOU shot amazingly well in H1 and I don't think it was all bad D.
Whoa, that Q3.7.15 Podz pass to TJD into a mega dunk. That was the first flash of plus athleticism from him. Then TJD fights for a rebound next play. (2:02 of 1st video)
Podz is quite good at finding the open man while up in the air, but it still feels like he gets stuck in the air unnecessarily.
Nooooooo. Gui Santos injury
[Is it bad?] Hard to tell. He tried to play through it so it wasn't an emergency, but he still left the game.
LQ seems a little out of control today. Forcing plays and slow passes.
Yeeeeaaaaah that's right. GSW implementing the FULL BIG LEAGUE WARRIORS PACKAGE with the 17 turnovers in 3 quarters. That's NBA level play for ya
This game has been what the league must have felt like in 2014 playing against GSW. HOU just is making a zillion threes and it feels fluky. Of course not saying GSW should be winning, not while serving up this pupu platter of turnovers
[Does this game stink?] Nah, I'm enjoying it just fine. Plenty of Podz and TJD dissection to do
hey, some TJD rim intimidation there Q4.8.45. Then again it might have been mere confusion for HOU to not be firing up a long pull up 3
TJD looks ultra comfortable rolling on the PNR with LQ. (2:15 of 1st video)
They've let TJD work from the high post twice this game. Let's see more of that please.
TJD just got small balled there. Guarding Hinton and let him have an open 3.
Good catch by TJD on the baseline cut on a fast pass. Then took the elevator and adjusted his dunk mid flight (2:35 of 1st video)
I believe with this beatdown game, GSW is now officially eliminated from the summer league playoffs for 2023, 2024 and 2025
[After nuking is complete]
GSW pulled together a bunch of decent players, asked them to learn a little bit of motion offense, they mostly didn't learn it, ran a bunch of simple pick and roll, tried to work LQ and BP offball where they might play with the big league team. Tried to get touches for all the players, big and small. So, all about development and seeing how players fit in Kerrball. No chasing wins here. In fact, maybe punched some wins in the face.
It feels like HOU's summer league team is playing a simple 5-out offense with simple handoffs and a green light to fire away from three, and has recruited a team to run that system, and everyone racks up numbers. On defense, HOU overplayed the passing lanes and counted on GSW not being organized enough to punish them. The perfect summer league team.
But is Udoka planning on HOU shooting 49 shots from three every game? Not with the mediocre three-point shooters they currently have. Are these guys going to hoist pull up threes with the big club? I kind of doubt it.
So it feels a little like HOU is kind of punting on Summer League as any kind of development for the pros. And maybe that's practical. But it feels disappointing to me, kind of like having grade school basketball teams play a zone. Yeah, it's good for winning but Summer League isn't about winning. You can call me salty, but I haven't been salty about any of the other losses...
[Am I jealous GSW didn’t draft Whitmore?] Haha, never! Though it hurts to have him rain threes on us
Of course it hasnt rained here in ages and now that we have to drive back from Michigan, it feels like we’re driving in the middle of a Hurricane out here in Central Missouri
EDIT* Anyways awhile back I was listening to one of The Ringer podcasts. Wanna say Bill Simmons Podcast talking about Caitlin Clark and they were trying to figure out wheh was the last time a player as exciting as CC came out. They were bandying names like Rebecca Lobo and Taurasi the last big name coming out before CC. All i have to say is A). Sabrina Motherf*<kin Ionescu! And b). If you’re this clueless about womens bball then maybe you shouldn’t be talking about womens bball. Reminds me of that one time Bill Simmons and Ryen Rusillo were discussing protests and race relarions in America.
No. I just use the comment boxes. Is there a better way to do it?
