New thread up, announcing the just announced final game of the Summer League. Mark your calendars, to tune in or perhaps to tape over your screens and avoid the game
https://www.nbcsportsbayarea.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/will-richard-nba-roster-spot-summer-league/1862679/ whatever you think of Will Richards--- these are enciraging stats. But what I like just as well is when he was mic'd up and he reminded me of GPII. A real cheer leader and moralw booster. Sometimes we underestimate the little things that make important additions to a team. The confidence that the FO is showing in not making bad trades counts for something as well.
We just don't have as many facts as they do. Keeping your powder dry isn't easy---until you see the whites of their eyes...
Edit: Tworing’s comment below reminded me that Melton sounds like he’ll ready for camp!
Interesting Summer League story from Tommy at the beginning of this new edition of Light Years. He saw Melton, started casually chatting him up and Melton talked a lot more than you’d expect. He sounds if his return is a done deal and he’s just waiting it out (presumably for JK to get resolved). He also said he loves the whole Dubs environment and that Steph is the best human being he’s ever met. https://www.youtube.com/live/7zvHwIfGXdg?si=4aeI5MAU-xI7NmTo
OK, so Horford's on an MLE and Melton on a minimum?
Sounds like Melton feels he's going to be ready earlier rather than later. Could be just normal player positivity about what they can control, but if he really is ready at midseason, that's a good signing at a min.
There were 8 offensive fouls for turnovers called on the Warriors in the second and third quarters.
Considering the "they can't call them all fouls" defense that the refs were letting Toronto get away with, that number seemed excessive. Many of these fouls seemed to me to be players fighting through highly physical traps or warding off holds..
Can you make a flashy-thing for SL games? I really need to get this last game out of my head. Turnovers, fouls, and bad shooting for both clubs. Should have had a running clock for the fourth quarter.
The flashy thing is dangerous and should only be used for a regular season or playoff game that was truly horrible. SL basketball is expected to be ugly, and the outcome is meaningless.
I have to re-iterate that I think this TOR extreme full court press is BS. This only works when you have a big roster that you’re playing low minutes and you have 10 fouls. It gives an unrealistic idea of how these players will play in a real game. This should be socially shamed.
Aha, I hadn’t seen that. In general, I want to strongly encourage people to post links to information when possible. This is the first link I can find.
"I saw more playing time than Warriors center Quinten Post, who was held out because an ankle injury that bothered him in the second half of the season flared up in the weeks before the California Classic."
* Q2.2.55. Bolden with a good block and then intimidated the crap out of a 5 foot look. And then an illegal screen. Sigh.
* 0.55. Richard just has a knack for getting the ball. OREB, finds Toohey for another swish 3. On the other end, Richard is alert on the perimeter but ends up in weird positions floating under the basket.
* 0.00. Richard hits the halfcourt heave but it doesn’t count. Richard is fun to watch.
* Q2.6.00. Dazzling touchdown pass from Taran to Manon who was so open he didn’t know what to do. Defense caught up.
* Q2.4.26. A wonderful improv give and go Taran-Coleman taken away by a questionable charge call.
* I find this TOR team kind of cheesy with its hyper-aggressive trapping defense. No problem if you dare to run that defense in the season against prepared teams, but for these scrimmages with brand new teams?
Q2.~8.00. Toohey may have caught up to the speed of the game on offense at least enough to stay on court. However, a couple of plays on defense where he hasn’t tried to contest a shot right next to him, nor was he boxing out.
These games would be better if players only got 6 fouls like in the league. With 10 fouls they don't have to care so much, and it makes the game sloppier.
* I think of Blake Hinson as someone who should excel in the Summer League wildness and iso environment. He came into the league as a bucket getter. But he seems out of sorts and isn’t getting anything.
* Bernard threw a great pass into the paint earlier. I could imagine almost all of this roster fitting in at Santa Cruz. Can’t say anyone is at “too good for G-League” level
* Q2.9.05. Nice OREB from Richard. I’ve seen some decent rebounding from him. He had below average rebounding in college. I wonder how much he was held back by his role at Florida.
* Q1.1.27. Gorgeous iso move from Will Richard for the pull-up.
* Armstrong wasn’t bad but he isn’t standing out. I feel like the PNR handlers are really wanting to get the ball to the rollers, which shows they are good teammates but that pass isn’t there and that gums up the works.
* Bolden with an impressive rebound after a hideous pass turnover. He’s got a massive frame for sure.
* Taran Armstrong is a little besieged by the tight TOR D. Not a wise TD pass, but then a solid pass to a halfcourt backcut.
* Will Richard made the same pass on the same play earlier, both times for layups. WR was a little quieter and seemed happier cutting off ball with good defense.

I just think if you look at the good stats and say the bad stats like 3% will change the good also might balance out. But I hope not

yeah, I heard that. Not sure I believe it.
Never has a "like" being a heart been more appropriate. Get it done!

Eric -

> Can you make a flashy-thing for SL games?
Dude, the first one's free.
You need to pony up for the rest of them.
Why do you think they repo'd my car?
The flashy thing is dangerous and should only be used for a regular season or playoff game that was truly horrible. SL basketball is expected to be ugly, and the outcome is meaningless.
Maybe you can look at the flashy thing from a previous article…?

That's why I think SL should only allow 6 fouls. If players can't get it done without fouling out, then sit the hell down. Ten fouls is ridiculous.
No only do I agree, but you also need the refs to call offensive fouls on the players trying to ward off the pressure.
Has Post's injury been discussed?
What injury?
Ankle. That's why he's not playing in SL.
I assume he got it while winning the NBA chess tournament in Vegas.
Sprained gambit.

Thanks. Amusingly, all three links (Reddit, bluemanhoop and S.F. standard) all are links to the Standard article.

Jules bernard is a Ball Hog.
Richard cutting through, good work.

Armstrong sometimes dribbles the ball right into trouble where the defense can collapse on him, and then he's stuck.
I wonder if it’s easier to dribble out of trouble in the NBL.
