Apricot In-Game Notes
No Moody in the starting lineup today. Perhaps tomorrow, as he was bound to miss one of the back-to-backs.
I don’t know how much of this I will watch, but I think every time I’ve seen Santos touch the ball, he’s dribbled and fallen down or thrown it away.
Hey, they are running Warriors plays. Triple split with the dive down the middle. Santos tosses one in after it all broke down
Okay Santos has settled in. Several good drives and dishes. Jessup fires in a 3. Last year he looked shell shocked by the raw speed of NBA-near players for the first four games.
Quiniones bricked two straight open 3s but otherwise has been in the flow of the game
Santos fires up a 3 brick from Curry range. Playing like a guy who has two games to convince people not to send him back to Brazil. But for the most part, he’s creating all right off the dribble
Santos is actually playing ICE defense, like the vanilla GSW defense Then bullies in for ANOTHER layup. Early returns say he can play in the G-League fine.
Maaaybe, there have been a few hoists above the break
Santos tried to go behind the back on a fast break and got blocked by #34 helpside, then stripped by #34. He is The Santos-Stopper
Kings actually double team Santos. Come on man
Nate In-Game Notes
Missed most of the first quarter … so I’m coming away from this thinking [Santos] should’ve been drafted ahead of Murray (j/k … maybe …)
We had a 4 on 1 break … and it resulted in an airballed three … and everyone involved in that should be waived immediately lol
[On leaving early] Lol fair point But having gone to Vegas for SL, if you’ve watched consecutive games, there’s a point where your mind just sort of turns to mush and you have to get out of there before you go into catatonic shock.
Yeah it was a single ticket for the day. You have to be a real junkie to consider it (I considered it lol)
Gui has been feeling himself a bit in the second half and doing things that are quite clearly outside his ability … but the kid clearly has talent. Look forward to seeing what he does in a second game…
He definitely took something like a pull up j from the free throw line in maybe the late second quarter, but yeah I agree — after they started collapsing on him, he needed to recognize opportunities to mix it up. It’s also the first game of summer league. So with the exception of a few Summer League Hall of Famers, I’m not really expecting a player to show everything they got this first time around.
Yeah that’s where summer league is weird: it’s not like pickup ball where you’re 100% improvising, but it’s not like a real game where everyone actually know the sets well… so I can’t blame him for not displaying a feel of when to kick out. What I did see is that when put in 2 man game situations he did pretty well hitting cutters/rollers.
How To Watch
California Classic
The complete game and broadcast for schedule is here.
The GSW games are (all times Pacific):
Sun. 7/3/22 LA Lakers v Golden State. 4:30 PM NBA TV
Players To Watch
Warriors
James Wiseman. NOT AT CA CLASSIC. GSW has been very vague about Wiseman’s availability, probably because reality is vague. But he is supposed to play some time during Las Vegas Summer League.
Jonathan Kuminga. PLAYING FOR CONGO NATIONAL TEAM, NOT AT CA CLASSIC. Will he dominate SL, or will he float through SL like he floated through G-League? A couple of crushing games and he might be released from SL duty.
Anthony Slater wrote: Jonathan Kuminga also is expected to appear at some point in summer league, but he just traveled to Congo and the Warriors can’t determine when exactly he will debut until they get him back in the facility and create the preferred summer plan.
Moses Moody. Last year, he showed off a steady presence in SL that was promising but not assertive.
Patrick Baldwin Jr. NOT AT SUMMER LEAGUE UNTIL CLEARED. 2022 #28 pick. He’s trying to rehab a bad ankle which messed up his senior year, his only year of college and his draft stock. I think he should skip SL. If your foot injury was enough to prevent 100% draft workouts and also screwed up your year in college, you should just get it back to 100% so we can see what we got. Myers left the possibility open if Rick Celebrini approved.
Ryan Rollins. 2022 #44 pick. INJURED, WILL NOT BE AT SUMMER LEAGUE. I hoped to see him in SL with a chip on his shoulder trying to prove he can get to the rim and get off jumpers against SL athleticism. Instead, he will be rehabbing his foot.
Gui Santos. 2022 #55 pick. He’s under contract in Brazil for multiple years,
so he will be a draft-and-stash.But there is a remote chance he will come to Summer League, to try to blow people away to get a two-way. Update: after Game 1 of the CA Classic, he is now a folk hero.Justinian Jessup. 2020 #51 pick. The legendary late second rounder from last year who has been developing in the Australian NBL. In 2020-21, true diehards dreamed about him coming to save the day whenever a Warrior bricked an open three.
Other young players. Given the GSW roster situation, I doubt anybody can make the NBA roster, but impressive play could get someone on to the Santa Cruz Warriors.
Official Team Roster
Los Angeles
Max Christie. 2022 #35 pick.
Scottie Pippen Jr and Shareef O’Neal. They have famous dads.
Has everyone considered what the next 4 year's of sports media would be like if Durant returned? I mean really considered it? We all love basketball. We all consume our fair share of content. If Durant joins the Warriors again, just imagine yourself strapped to a chair with your eyes taped open, ala Roddy McDowell in A Clockwork Orange, and being forced to watch 50 Shades of Gray over and over again for the next 4 years.
I'll pass.
Durant reuniting with Warriors highly unlikely: https://theathletic.com/news/kevin-durant-trade-warriors/6QiJnQClVJj6/
