Predictions:

Gui goes for 12 points before they realize he's not an usher whom MDJ told to suit up.

Steve Kerr spotted rochambeau'ing with his assistant coaches before the game to see who has to tell JK that even though half the team is out, there is no point him putting on a uniform.

Buddy goes nuclear for half a quarter, canning 4 threes, but they stick Caruso on him, and that ends that.

TRT tries to see if an AI can get tipsy by pouring apple cider down the network cable.

Dubs have em right where they want em. Probably single-digit turnovers and no one-handed cross court passes to pick off

Thats actually a good complent of off guards. I can see why Kerr likes playing 3 and 4-guard lineups

Butler must have partied too much on New Year’s. The Three Wise (I mean old) Men are all out today. I don’t have Prime, so I wasn’t going to be able to watch the game, anyway. I hope our young ones can give OKC some fight. LGW!

Can’t begrudge the vets a night off at this point, but punting a game against the defending champs is just objectively kind of a drag.

Would hurt less if we were sitting at 22-12 right now instead of 18-16 where every loss really hurts our chances of escaping the play in

Yeah, basically playing for a split of the next two games. If you rest those guys against the Jazz, 0-2 becomes a legitimate risk…and probably more likely than 2-0.

If Steph really is dinged up (which I believe ... he was a little limpy at one point in the last game), the chances of them beating OKC are minimal, with a full roster. I like the idea of pointing at the more gettable game of the two.

I want to think that JK is sitting because a trade is likely, and not for performance reasons. Stuffing cynicism in the back seat is one of my resolutions.

Out on Davis and MPJ, but hopefully the JK trade is a part of these so the Dubs can net a better return for whatever player they're targeting.

Time for LJ Cryer to make his debut with 6 or 7 threes tonight :)

I want to see LJ against NBA comp, see if he can handle and get his excellent shot off against the best. The dude's measurables are nearly the same as those of Davion Mitchell, who is an NBA starter. I wouldn't be surprised if LJ's three-ball is better. He is likely a worse defender, but he's shown he can be a pest. We need another confident shooter to stretch the floor reliably.

Butler is sitting with general illness (promoted from colonel nausea). Which means our choices for the front line are Post, TJD, Horford and Santos (JK if he plays).

recall Leons from Santa Cruz ... let's see the dude play!

Looks like the Nets are going to come out winners in that MPJ trade. They're most likely going get at least a 1st rounder for him so they basically turned Cam Johnson into 2 1st round picks and possibly more

DFiB's avatar

When you trade for a high end role player and they turn into a decent #1, you're gonna get value on the second trade. See: Bridges, Mikal, who got traded for 5 picks (all projected to be in the late 20s, but still).

That's what we're going to do with Trey Murphy. Give up 2 1st rounders for him, make him an all star here and trade him when Steph retires for double that

Has Melton really "distinguished himself as the best of the bunch and a mainstay of the closing lineups"?

In 10 games, he's averaged 8 pts on 33% from the field and 17% from deep. That's an astronomically bad 44 TS%. I'm willing to give him time to adjust given his past NBA performance, his return from injury, and his excellent +14 plus minus . . . but I wouldn't call his performance distinguishing himself tbh.

Duncan's avatar

I would say the defense and playmaking have been well above the others, which is why he’s been consistently in the closing lineups, but you’re right that the shooting is still *extremely* rough. I’m giving a lot of grace there due to the year off and rounding that up to near career averages in my mind.

Expand full comment
Arash's avatar

We'll have to agree to disagree in terms of playmaking. I don't think he's well above Podz, who has a superior AST% (17.5 vs 14.6) and passer rating (71rst percentile vs 51rst percentile).

As an olive branch, I do agree that he's the best defender of the bunch by a considerable margin.

Expand full comment
DFiB's avatar

The "playmaking" may not be above Podz, but the overall "defense and playmaking" is... not to an huge extent, but enough to make him the choice.

Expand full comment
Goofus's avatar

OTOH, Podz is very arguably the 2nd best 3-point shooter on the team, and the only Warrior above 41% on any kind of volume.

If it’s my decision and probably consider the situation, the other players on the floor for both teams, then run a statistical analysis. I’d also want input from my assistant coaches. After all that, I’d play whoever Steph tells me to play.

Steph is likely out and Looks like JB is also out now - its going to be the puppy dubs vs OKC - wonder if SGA’s free throws go up or down in this scenario!

As per slater below, JB is questionable due to an illness!!

https://www.reddit.com/r/warriors/comments/1q26bi7/slater_jimmy_butler_is_now_questionable_tonight/

"[Slater] Jimmy Butler is now questionable tonight with an illness. Possible the Warriors won’t have Butler, Steph Curry or Draymond Green vs Thunder. Green out, Curry questionable."
