Read the article and No, they should just rewind the clock back and not trade for Beale. But if im the Warriors, yeah id trade 2025 and 2027, Wiggins, JK and whatever other salary filler needed for KD. allows Phx to start mini rebuild now and we are gonna absolutely stink after 2027: for probably the next 5 years
Yeah... depth is key. But watch the top teams over the next few years... even the vaunted Thunder and their youth & treasure trove of assets will struggle to stay at the top unless they luck out on some future drafts.
The Thunder hit on Chet & Williams, but if they try to keep them together, they'll be supported by a bunch of rookies & young players not yet ready to make playoff winning plays. The Celtics are going to either be paying through the nose as soon as next season, or breaking up their top end depth. It's gonna be the parity over who's got the 3rd year guy who's taken the leap to support the 2x superstars on the roster... followed by the hand wringing about how to pay everybody after the championship run.
"Somewhat surprisingly, Green is in lockstep with the way the Warriors have handled things. Despite overtures to the likes of Paul George over the summer, they’ve stayed the course as opposed to going all-in on any strategy.
“The beautiful part about being in the space that we're in is, Steve Kerr, Steph Curry and myself all disagree with mortgaging off the future of this organization, saying that we're going for it right now,” Green told Yahoo Sports on Thursday night following the Warriors’ 107-104 win over Detroit.
“Bad teams do that. Bad organizations do that. We're not neither one.”
I hope it goes more the people that actually need it rather than many of the multimillionaires in pacific palisades who have five or six multimillion dollar houses around the state and country.
Yeah... I'm not out here counting money or anything, or shaming anybody for giving charity to others, but that seems like a drop in the bucket in a lot of ways...
>>>This flu running through the NBA is no joke. I was talking to a few teams that are asking players to stay away if they are feeling even the slightest bit sick. Almost every team has been hit by it at this point.<<<
Sure be nice to have a big performance by Wiggs tonight - a few days off, a new baby, and playing back home might be a great recipe. Is 17 points in EACH half too much to ask for?
Going to the game tonight, just a bit up from courtside seats. I moved to Toronto shortly after I was "given a DHNQ time-out." LOL. Been too busy to see what people are saying here, much less comment, but on other sites it seems like I guess I was just two years ahead of the curve on Kerr, JK, and more.
Anyway, I'm rooting for a good game. Toronto is 8-31 so it should be easy pickins' for the Dubs. On the other hand, on any given night . . .. I hope Steph plays well, Dray stays in control, and the game is clean and fun. Its hella cold here. A good game would be warm compensation.
Dray may not be playing, Barnes is back, they just took Cleveland to the wire (Cleveland without Mitchell) in Cleveland... it's not gonna be an easy game.
This is 100% a trap game. We're rested, getting some top end rotation players back, against a team with a poor record... that's finally getting healthier. I smell a clutch game that comes down late game execution and random ending.
Whatever happens, we need Schröder to re-discover his mojo. He's not attempting shots at the rim at all, turning them into mid-range attempts, and generally not making his jumpers. If he's just going to continue being unable to make shots, we're just going to suck this year...
Kuminga has been in the eyes of some fans — not all, but some, and not speaking here of the article — a not particularly useful player, a question mark in terms of overall usefulness, a pouty guy, a liability who doesn’t learn; to suddenly bunch of angst about his being out and how much better the team would be if only he were in there. My position on Kuminga is known. Others seem inconsistent.
Kuminga has been inconsistent. In the last two seasons, his performance early in the season was full of over-exuberance, only to fail miserably. Last season, he was relegated to a DNP-CD bench role by early December, only to be dusted off on a whim by Kerr because everybody else was sucking. Then Kuminga starred IN HIS ROLE, and only then became a fixture. He seems to be on a bit of a similar path this year, which would be great for the rest of this season.
What is the difference between being a player who could be doing better and "Failing miserably?"
What is the appropriate standard?
To what extent is Kuminga the only variable, as opposed to other players and coaching or style of play alongside him? Is he just randomly inconsistent, or do these other factors matter? How much?
To me, Kuminga seems to be experiencing (much more than other players do) what some people experience in early romantic relationships: "You're AMAZING you're so GREAT, wait did you just leave the sponge in the sink???? You're the WORST! I HATE YOU, oh, are those flowers? You are SO WONDERFUL mean EVERYTHING TO ME!!! What do you mean you forgot my birthday LEAVE IMMEDIATELY."
Kuminga was shooting <60% from the FT line, had a ~50% True Shooting percentage, and low rebounding and assist rates through the end of November this year, with the highest usage rate on the team, while generally just sorta "being there" whenever somebody else had the ball on offense. Regardless of which variables are key influences in this performance, I don't think it's controversial to call that "failing miserably".
In your relationship analogy, that (probably really attractive) person who's so great and buys flowers, but leaves the sponge in the sink and forgets birthdays is also inconsistent and scoring ~50% of the time they shoot for relationship points. Looks like bad match for whatever reason, and they should break up... even if it's just miscommunication or misaligned relationship goals.
>>>LiAngelo Ball has signed a deal with Def Jam and Universal Music Group, a representative from his label Born2Ball Music Group says. Sources said the deal is worth as much as $13 million, with $8 million guaranteed, and gives Ball full ownership of music and his own record label.<<<
The Dubs go all in and get Butler and he agrees to a deal that expires when Steph’s does.
We are talking over a 100 million to sign new guys plus Draymond’s contract.
That could lead to a quick rebuild if we get lucky with signing the right guys and also maybe be interesting this year and next if Butler can still play at a really high level.
I know it is asking a lot to think Butler would agree to a 2 year deal, but what if he did.
Maybe more realistic if this becomes 3 years, but that is really stretching the age issues beyond reality.
Is there some cap rule that I don’t understand that screws this up?
Please. Butler would be terrible. Whose spot is he taking? JK? Wiggins? He's too expensive, too brittle, too hypocritical, too inconsistent. I'd take him at the vet minimum, but not more.
I am living in a super optimistic world where Butler regains the form he had in the playoffs. The same world where Zion becomes healthy enough to play full seasons and loves the Kerr culture. A huge gamble on either one but desperate times.
My main question was about the contracts of Steph and Butler expiring and creating a massive free agent bank and if people thought that was a good situation.
The problem I have with Butler is that he thinks of himself as a great playoff player – and he can be – but he also has a reputation for being a hard ass about people playing hard, and I don’t think he does all the time, certainly not during the regular season. He’s been traded from a number of teams And I don’t think that’s a good match for the Warriors culture that values people that get along with others. I also just don’t like picking up players that have been around for a long time because they’re not as much fun as young guys just trying to make their way in the world
Butler isn't worth the headache he is. Especially when we already have one headache to deal with. But at least Draymond didn't quit on his team (arguably, yes I know).
moved us to a new game thread, with update that Green will miss tonight's game: https://dubnationhq.com/p/game-thread-green-out-warriors-start
Toronto has Quickley out, so their PG rotation is down to:
1. Shead (who's hit 5x of his last 6 3s, so he's primed for a "role players always make 3s against the Warriors" Fitz comment)
2. Mitchell (I'm looking forward to a Sleepy vs. JZ comment fight in the post-game thread).
3. The BBB Non-PG options: Brown, Barnes, Barrett.

The losses are upwards of 100 billion dollars. NBA owners might have to dig a little deeper.

As bad as the Dubs have looked since the 12-3 start, I don't think they're good enough to be playing a "trap" game.
