Preview: GSW looks to keep streaking vs WAS
Win the games you’re supposed to. Simple, eh?.
Win the games you’re supposed to. Simple, eh? Entering this week, it’s all we could hope for from the injury riddled Golden State Warriors. Three winnable games against teams eliminated from the playoffs, optimizing for draft position. Looking at who’s playing versus who’s in street clothes, we can’t take these Ws for granted.
Moses Moody’s season ending injury against the Mavericks on Monday cast a gloomy cloud over what was otherwise a gutsy come from behind road win. GSW overcame turnover-itis for another double digit comeback versus the Nets and will wrap up the week welcoming the Washington Wizards to the Bay.
Washington has certainly been more skilled at collecting Ls than wins. The Wiz finally snapped their franchise-worst 16-game losing streak against the Jazz on Wednesday and enter Chase Center looking to break its 12-game losing streak versus the Warriors. Just a week and a half ago, the Dubs snapped a 5-game losing streak in Washington, led by Kristaps Porzingis and De’Anthony Melton.

Where’s your Tank Meter at?
Life is tough on the playoff bubble and that’s where the Warriors have been since the 2022 Championship. It’s a pain to admit a team with Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green a play-in team at best, but that’s where we are. The San Francisco 49ers injury bug has made its way into the Warriors locker room. What would have been an easy match up on paper has become nail biters against the lineups the Dubs have been able to put on the floor.
With the Grizzlies eliminated from the playoffs, the Warriors clinched a play-in spot with the 8th seed in reach so these last 10 games still present meaningful basketball to play. The latest SC30 knee prognosis targets another update at the end of the month dividing Dub Nation into a to tank or not conundrum. I’m old school. Championship mindset says no to tanking. If Steph’s 100%, I say play him and let’s rattle a few cages in the playoffs.
Gui Santos Appreciation
Got the bag and is still producing. Gui Santos has been the bright spot as of late. Despite irregular minutes when the team is at full strength, Santos exemplifies that next man up mentality. When David Lee got injured, Draymond Green played his way into his starting spot. I was hoping the upcoming youths would seize the opportunity to move some old guys to the bench, but alas no. Santos will have plenty of minutes at SF while Jimmy Butler is out.
Prediction: GSW extends their win streak vs WAS to 13 games
With no more “must win” games per se, I’d say this is a “better win” game for our Dubs. Too much inexperience on the Wizards. No one on that roster to worry about as they’re no strangers to team injuries themselves. No Trae Young, AD, Cam Whitemore, D’Angelo Russell. Starting rookies & sophomores. Hard to believe it’s been since January that the Dubs have posted back to back wins. Golden State wraps up this week 3-0 heading into a tough next week against the Nuggets, Spurs and Cavs.
The Chef will return
I’m gonna go out on a limb and predict Steph comes back for the April 1 game against the Spurs. The bigger the stage, the bigger the highlights and the nationally televised ESPN game vs Wemby’s Spurs provides the perfect backdrop for Curry’s return.
These last games also will be Kristaps try outs for next season - whether it’s for the Warriors or some other team should GSW opt to sign & trade Porzingis. The Dubs would love to see what they have with Curry and Porzingis before having to decide on an extension in the offseason.
Let’s get past the Wizards first. 103-129 Warriors.
