I know the bench scored lots… but a good chunk of that scoring was with Steph and Dray on the floor. Obviously looks different with them out. Hoping for a strong performance and win!
You have a good point, there really is only like a couple half lines of prose devoted to covering tonight's opponent 😂 But TBH, I heard enough about the LA team over the summer lol
I think it's a weird thing to first give the championship trophy to the owners. And talking to the players about "your owner." I understand why, but it is weird. Lacob was gracious and gave credit to the "three women" who put the team together and coached them, but still.....
Ever game is better with Steph, but will still enjoy tonight's contest.
It's definitely a weird moment when owners get to collect the trophy, but I think this is in part colored by how fans experience the game. Fans see the players first, the coaches second, and the owners are usually much further from the spotlight. Lacob is a bit of an outlier in his level of public engagement - more visible and vocal than most, but nowhere near the psychotic, frothy-mouthed fanaticism of a Ballmer.
But ultimately, IMO ownership is integral to setting the stage for greatness (or conversely, pathetic mediocrity *coughGayle Bensoncough*)
Lacob - whether you love or hate his way of going about things and speaking his mind, has invested mightily in women's sports, and set a very high standard of expectations for the franchise before it even began.
Similarly, when Lacob and Guber purchased GSW, they turned it from a perennial laughingstock into a dynasty of dominance that was simultaneously loved and hated, respected and feared. The organizational culture of GSW is reputedly second-to-none. Organizations do not typically develop and sustain top-tier culture *in spite of* their leadership, in my experience.
I don't need to stroke the dude's ego for him, but IMO he and Guber have the right to be there to receive the trophy on behalf of the team.
(re: the reporter asking Gabby about "your owner" was just bad phrasing and timing ... that shouldn't reflect on Lacob or Guber but rather on the reporter's sense of propriety)
Kudos to the Chase Center floor crew - they had to put up the NBA Cup court for Friday night's game, change over to Valkyries yesterday, and then reinstall the regular NBA court for tonight's game. Hope Lacob's compensating them well.
Podz didn't come off the bench vs. the Lakers.

I kinda found it strange that the Valkyries championship t-shirt was gray instead of lavender.
I think they look purple? Could be the lights too.

The sparkly player silhouette is 🔥
Am I old-fashioned if I think a game preview ought to tell me something about the opposing team besides its name?
I'm more than okay with less being said about this particular opponent.

Kerr's pre-game talk: "Lads, it's L.A. Clippers"
Yaxel is the problem the Warriors need. I think??😅

Ownership has its privileges, and of course money talks in the USA.
If the story is a championship in the 2nd year, then it could start with Lacob.
If it is about basketball, then it's the game plays, players and coaches.
Mixed euphoria for many, and mixed up story for the media.

No kidding!
