The latest flight into shooting variance; the poor shooting Mavs are absolutely torching the nets against the Kings, and are up by 22 near the close of the 2nd quarter.

Just glad they’re not playing us 😂

"On a related note, I really must re-store the Xmas decorations in the garage!"

You're lucky you can do that. My garage gets to 100 degrees in the summer. 😰

"NEW YORK -- The NBA will resume having referees wear headsets with earpieces and microphones Tuesday, with the test scheduled to continue through games of Feb. 12 before the league breaks for All-Star Weekend.

From the start of the season through Dec. 12, referees had the headsets clipped onto their uniforms -- then used them during instant replay reviews and other stoppages, but not actually during live play.

In this phase, referees will wear the earpieces throughout the game, including during live play, and be able to communicate directly with the replay center and each other at all times."

New York has scored four (now six) points halfway through the 1st quarter.

Today I learned that Melton leads the team in +/-, and that the Warriors are 12-6 with him and 12-13 without him.

(H/T to 7man)

Arnold's avatar

Melton is really good. I hope MDJ figures out a way to keep Melt for next season. His game and personality is such a good fit.

Loon Gehrig's avatar

best case (but probably unlikely) scenario is Melton signs a 1-year deal for as much as we can pay him, giving him full Bird Rights for the season after

Abaddon's avatar

1+1 with a the second year being a player option is better for him and more likely

BayesGT's avatar

afaik unless we get under the salary cap the most we can offer him is 1.2x his current salary of a little over 3 mil. And we’re projected to be about $90 mil over the cap next season, so it’s just not happening unless he decides to take a massive pay cut to stay.

Eric Apricot's avatar

GSW could also use the whole TP Midlevel on Melt (~$5.7m). But probably it will be just like DiVincenzo… DDV could have been paid by GSW at most the TPMLE ~$5m but instead he signed for $11m / y so of course he left.

DDV wasn’t coming off two straight serious injuries, missing the first quarter of the season, playing on minutes restrictions etc. I don’t think Melton is getting $55 million or whatever, still may be priced out of GS of course

If we don't find a trade worth anything, I could absolutely see the team trading JK for pure expiring salary and a 2nd round pick with the intention of freeing up cap space to bring back Melton...

It would take a lot more than just JK and Buddy who are currently both expirings. I think TJD is too. We’d need to swap out like all of Butler’s Salary for expiring salaries too

Loon Gehrig's avatar

wow, Bucks almost lost that (after Atlanta shot 1/22 from 3 in the 1st half)

Mr.Plow's avatar

1/22? The 2018 Rockets are jealous of such red hot shooting

dinohealth's avatar

Let's go Warriors and rack up some wins at home...

2026 West NBA All-Star starters:

Luka Doncic

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

Stephen Curry

Nikola Jokic

Victor Wembanyama

NoOneEverGotFired4GuardinSteph's avatar

Happy to see Steph get this (nothing against you, Ant, but I don't feel too bad since you're young and will have many more opportunities)

ananthd's avatar

Loved that the players ranked Steph only behind the Joker.

Goofus's avatar

Holy shit that’s a good team, but I’d rather see Durant in there instead of SGA.

jaxfor3's avatar

Too bad we won't see it on court. Breaking it up for the US vs World theme.

Goofus's avatar

Oh that’s right! Totally forgot about that.

Fantom's avatar

Four of the top five are world. Once we know who the east starters are we may see curry and Durant starting

Goofus's avatar

Tyrese Maxey, 76ers.

Jalen Brunson, Knicks.

Cade Cunningham, Pistons.

Jaylen Brown, Celtics.

Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bucks.

Goofus's avatar

World starters are Dončić, Gilgeous-Alexander, Jokić, Wembanyama and Antetokounmpo

That’s a tough team to beat even if you put all the best U.S. players on one team.

Abaddon's avatar

Yeah concentrating all World on one team and splitting US players into two is gonna make things rough for the US.

TwoRingTest's avatar

3 hall of famers and two that almost certainly will get there. yikes.

Captain Jack's avatar

I boldly predict Andrew Wiggins will score 17 points tonight

dinohealth's avatar

LOL Right at his average ppg..

Loon Gehrig's avatar

16* (so we're guaranteed a win)

Hoops2518's avatar

It would be unbelievably ironic and fantastic if they keep JK because the offers are so bad and he plays like he did at the start of the season, but even better.

Sabiscrashingout.'s avatar

Hopefully it humbles him.

dubbletrubble's avatar

JK: “I demand a trade.”

FO: “No.”

Hoops2518's avatar

I solved all the Warriors problems. Get the 3 point attempts over 50 every game and make them at over 40%. That should do it. Easy peasy. I should have been a GM.

CRL's avatar

Where do they get the other 60 points?

cannothoop's avatar

Nice, but this over complicates things. Here is the winning formula: Score more points than the other team. sure you can coach it up with 50 made 3 pointers, but I'll take 200 FTs if it meets the formula.

I think the kuminga situation is the reverse of the Butler situation. People know something is wrong and they also respect Steve kerrs judgment but just like with Miami, they see the possibility of getting good value in a deteriorated situation. The key is there may need to have their own player. They wouldn’t mind moving for any of a number of reasons or more likely a three-way trade with three teams have different priorities so the Warriors can get a player who might be a bit duplicative another team better align their roster on the 3rd team looking towards the future can try out K at a reasonable price. I think our GM will be good at exploring this and if it doesn’t emerge he stays, and once the deadline is over, he will be willing to play

TwoRingTest's avatar

Ugh. Is the Dray ankle sprain new? If not, I somehow missed that news.

eponymous_username's avatar

Could be new. Listed as right ankle sprain. If you go back ~2 weeks to the beginning of the homestand Dray had a *left* ankle sprain on the injury report, but nothing pops up for him in between.

Report says Dray "probable" and we might recall he played the very next game after crashing into the bench, falling on his wrist and tweaking that left ankle on three separate plays, plus battling with Zubac all evening. So I think he suits up, but you never know.

punk basketball's avatar

Also B2B, so they may be watching Horford or otherwise trying to keep Dray with an excused absence

wonderyearsballer's avatar

I am constantly astonished by how soon Celebrini gets these guys back in action. What Star Trek wizardry is this? For me an ankle sprain was always a 6-week minimum with a high probability of heartbreaking reinjury on the first play back. Freakin stem cells?
