Apricot's In-Game Notes

  • Looks like GSW playing Wiseman in drop, and feels like the right idea. He already bothered one pull-up jumper in drop

  • James Wiseman defending Anthony Davis respectably on a few plays, except for leaving him for open 3s. I’d think JW should run him off the line and trust the rotation, but the game plan could very well be to let AD shoot 3s

  • Heh heh There’s definitely a game plan, just a question of how complex… Besides the base defense (ICE, drop), you can see GSW is putting a shadow helper under the free throw line every time AD posts up. It’s not really working, but it’s clearly a plan.

  • Juanito has been as usual making all kinds of little winning plays Sigh

  • On Anthony Lamb: I’m getting tiny Anderson Varejao vibes

  • JW saying at halftime that he has to stay closer to AD, confirming that “let AD take open threes” was not the game plan

  • Looney ad suggests Kevon is launched by a little Windows 3.1 .exe file. Appropriate

  • JaMychal Green in Japan didn’t seem to be caught up on the GSW playbook. He’s been doing all the right little things tonight. Great passing out of the post, always setting the backscreen in early offense for Steph, and as I type this, he’s getting into the passing lanes

  • Felt like Steph got serious about that 3 after he dropped JTA. Nothing like scoring on your brother

  • Poole outside-in dribble into a round the back floater. It is nasty

The highlight move of Jordan Poole’s 16-point third quarter: In-and-out dribble to lose initial defender, behind-the-back into the lane for a floater

Steve Kerr on Jordan Poole: “There’s a reason he’s in this position, about to sign a big extension hopefully. He’s tough. Mentally tough and physically tough.”

Here's Jordan Poole's full third quarter tonight: 18 points at all three levels. Quick to the rim, floater on the move, compact pull up from the mid-range, deep range. Then three spoon-fed assists for layups.

JTA is good at basketball!

JMG looked much better in that game and might be good at basketball too!

Not to beat the dead horse about Draymond’s press conference, but I saw comments that he said the right things and seemed genuinely apologetic, but…

Did anyone else get the sense that Draymond kept saying how wrong he was, but still didn’t quite believe it? When he said (in essence) he didn’t want to say more because he didn’t want to make Poole look bad and when he complained about the editing of the video purposely making him look worse than it was, I couldn’t help but think he was itching to say more. Then there was the whole apologizing to Poole and Poole’s family for embarrassing him sounding a bit too close to “Sorry for making you look like a b…”.

There was another point where he said he wasn’t raised to count other people’s money, but I’m assuming he wasn’t raised to full-force sucker punch teammates, yet here we are.

I can’t help but feel like Draymond is going to talk more (on his podcast, perhaps) at some point and it’ll be a step backward in the healing process.

Also, with all the talk about “rebuilding trust”, I keep wondering whether the team is just as pissed at him for the Chris Haynes tweet (assuming that was Draymond) throwing Poole under the bus.
