Kudos to Poole from Joe Viray

“ The Warriors run “Angle” — a high ball screen with a spread floor. Looney sets the drag screen and flips the angle at the last second to catch Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. But what intrigued me was how patient Poole was in letting Looney cook with his screen — a departure from his tendency to reject screens and opt for blazing speed rather than calculated pace.

Poole uses a behind-the-back crossover to shake Gilgeous-Alexander, and all that stands between him and the rim is Muscala in drop coverage. He’s more than entitled to take Muscala all the way and score, draw a foul, or both. But he sees Donte DiVincenzo in the corner being freed up by a Green pin-in screen, opts to snake the pick-and-roll for a paint touch, and kicks out to DiVincenzo, resulting in a highly efficient corner three.

Poole using the full potential of his downhill explosion — coupled with the kind of decision making and advantage creation that garnered him a sizeable extension during the offseason — is what makes it hard to pass up on his potential despite all the warts and struggles.”

I wasn't able to watch the game, but the box score is kind of startling in one respect besides the great score. Seven free throws for the Dubs for the whole game? 7? (Compared to 21 for the Thunder.) Those of who who were fortunate enough to watch: was this a reflection of the real situation?

Party Crasher.

Sorry, but last night was like your wife making you your favorite dinner after she slept with the neighbor. Thank you, but it's too late. I didn't think it was remotely possible, but somehow, Steve Kerr has sucked all the joy of basketball out of me. I can't even listen to the radio anymore. I still watch the games, but only out of habit and without the passion I have had as a fan for this team for over 3 decades. Maybe it's age, a loss of patience, or is it his rotations that turn in my stomach like the avocado-sardine salad with peppered pistachios that I forced upon myself. I always hear Beethoven when I am watching the game, my eyes taped open like Alex in A Clockwork Orange, forced to witness one criminal rotation after another.

Hopefully, I can be reformed. If the treatment works, I should be able to live in a world where Wiseman, JK, Moody, PBJ and Rollins are all replaced with Alex Caruso, Mason Plumlee, Udonis Haslem, Curry's new BFF Ty, and a deserving Lamb. You know, players that can play for Kerr, players who know the game, players for whom college wasn't a one night stand. And players that would show Curry that we are going ALL-IN for him.

I had a bunch of numbers put together, but I got work to do so I will just have to go with the eye test and what we have seen this year. We are athletically challenged. There is an athleticism gap that is growing by the month, like the Universe expanding faster than the speed of light. The gap is widening and the 3 players who were drafted to help close that gap have had their development thwarted at every turn by he who shall not be named. And don't give me that, "Well, what about JK? He's gotten on the court." Be honest, how much of JK would we have seen if Wiggs wasn't out for so long? But sure, I will go along. The truth is, JK should be playing every game until he fouls out. 44 minutes? Why not. He's young. There comes a time when there is no other way to get better except by playing on the court in real games, and not just in garbage time. (Side note, shouldn't that be James Wiseman's nickname?) Look, JK made his way from playing bare foot on dirt in Africa. I'm not worried about anything or anyone getting in his way, least of all a defender under the basket. Anyone in Sports will tell you how important confidence is. But Kerr has stolen the souls of Moody and Wiseman and keeps them in a black box under his bed at night. It helps him sleep at night, as he drifts off to sleep with the steady pounding and muffled murmurs of Wise and Mood emitting from his box.

Enough with the 2 timelines. Kerr has failed at accessing the talent on the roster that would be required to make a deep playoff run by being to rigid in his ways. That is, of course, in less anyone here believes that Green & Looney are going to hold up through a deep playoff run like they did last year. Against a Denver with weapons? Against a Dallas with the Nutty Professor? Against Sacramento with a head coach that knows ALL of our tricks? Against Memphis, which, sooner or later, is gonna get over their mental issues? Against a wayyyyy better Boston? Against a whole MIL? We have seen what the Warriors have done in the 4th quarter in games against Orl, Det, Min, go on, name every shitty inexperienced and ATHLETIC team. Meyers gave Kerr the tools to help close the athletic gap and the tools remain, for the most part, unused.

I am not a Wiseman or Moody apologist. I am not predicting their futures. What I will say is this, if you can't squeeze a couple glasses of orange juice out of those guys, it's on you. They don't need to be All-Stars. They just have to be useful, they just have to serve a larger purpose even if it just means getting your stars a breather.

What the Hell. I grew up in Sacramento. Maybe I just need to light the beam. If Mike Brown and Kerr switched jobs to start the season, we would be in Sacto's place. Accountability and using the tools you got, that's what Brown would have brought. I'm starting to see it now. Maybe I should have stayed in Sacramento. Fox and Sabonis PNRs. Murray for 3. The voices of Bob Fitzgerald and Kelena fade into the background like the sound of a passing train. Maybe everything makes more sense there. This is the way we are supposed to live, in a perpetual state of confusion and boredom. I'm even starting to like Beethoven.

A Clockwork Purple.

Not sure if this was pointed out but our nominal PG trio of Poole, DDV and Jerome had a combined 23/4 AST/TO ratio.

Totally agree. I know JP has had big scoring outputs before but he controlled the game yesterday and did things his way without having to chuck up a bunch of shots.

Gonna throw little cold water on everyone clamoring for more Wiseman. He has a major issue offensively: he brings the ball down to his belt every time. Ezeli also had this problem. The effect is that even little defenders give them major problems. I actually don't think he's all that playable, even on offense against a team that sees him more than once.

Only got to listen to Kerr's postgame now. They asked about Rollins' foot surgery. I thought this was a new or re-aggravated injury... but it sounds like this was the plan all along. Paraphrasing, it was something like "we knew we'd have to do the surgery all along... it was a question of whether to do it during the season or after".

Read down about 20 comments and not one "tip o’ the hat" to Jordan Poole who had one of his best games as a Warrior. Cerebral, inclusive, and relatively turnover free. The game finally looked as if it slowed down enough for him to understand it. Now that's what I'm excited about. Kudos JP.

I was really concerned about what a JP/JK Warriors lead team would look like in the future of the franchise and yesterday gave me a glimmer of hope.

Nets wanted Josh Green in the trade, but Mavs said no. Josh Green proceeded to have the best game of his NBA career the day after the trade was made. Mavs are incredibly happy according to the reactions in r/NBA.

Klay Thompson said he flips a kettlebell before warmups to see if it lands up right. It did tonight. So he knew he was going to have a good night.

Klay's record with the kettlebell flip? "Very bad news bears-esque," he said.

You know... I blame the starters for MM & JW inability to find a rhythm.

Those two have only been able to get NBA minutes in a stressful competitive game against an opponent bringing their A+ game to beat the defending champs. It's 100% on the starters to generate garbage time opportunities for those two to be able to just play free.

Tonight, they were the best selves. Moody was active defensively and staying in front of his man... an awesome dunk... Wise had those feathery finishes... they need more of these opportunities.
