I don’t know who said “defense travels” but it sure would be nice if that person would come and have a good long chat with the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors lost on the road - again - to the Memphis Grizzlies, giving up 131 points on the night. Memphis didn’t have Morant or Steven Adams, but Jaren Jackson ran all over the Warriors all night long.
It started off with a 48-28 disadvantage in the first quarter, and that was pretty much the game. Despite a couple of really strong pushes that brought the Warriors to within striking distance multiple times, Memphis always managed to hold them off.
And I say “managed” loosely here. The Warriors’ defense was as soft as a peeled grape.
With Andrew Wiggins still out, Anthony Lamb on a cost-saving hiatus in the G league, and Kuminga rolling his ankle during warmups, the wings are missing in Golden State. It’s not that bad of a loss considering how badly impacted the roster is at one key position, but that consideration does little to lessen the pain.
The Warriors are now back into the playoff tournament mix - in a three-way tie for the 6th through 8th seed.
Woooooo.
During the game and following few hours, I am moody and up and down.
But still I am not into doom and gloom. We won last year. That carries me through. Steph acrobatic magic shots are still so fun to watch. Dray's defensive plays makes us think - how the hell...? When Klay is on automatic, oh boy. JK dunking and acrobatic layups. PBJ pure 3s. I take that over 15-57 season any day.
During the game when I am despondent, I get a bit shaky in my support for Wiggs - more as to lack of information on when is he coming back, if at all but then sanity prevails. And I marvel at how supportive Warriors organization has been. Most of the companies won't be.
We gonna be alright. West seeds 5 and 6 are wide open. Let's enjoy the ride - atleast ups.
PS: I reserve the right to be all kind of crazy during the game 😃
grizzlies won game 5 last year 134 to 95.
