Postgame die by the three thread: Ice cold Warriors lose by two
Golden State shoots 40% from the field, 21% from deep
There was a good chance to win this game. With the clock clicking down into single digits, Klay Thompson stepped into an open three as two Denver Nuggets rushed at him. It would have been a game winning shot. Another notch in the belt of a storied career. But not tonight. It rimmed out and the Golden State Warriors racked up another road loss.
That wasn’t the only miss of course. There was an eerily similar play 10 or 15 seconds earlier, with Curry airballing (was it blocked?) a wide open three as the Nugget defenders ran and did the “fake hustle jump with your arm in the air from eight feet away” move. Because it’s the Warriors though, the ball found itself in the hands of Klay Thompson, who somehow hit a miracle shot over the top of the backboard from behind it.
The Warriors weren’t exactly humming at any point during this game. Even as they came storming back into the game in the fourth after being down double digits, the overall feeling was a big early lead that slowly bled away. But it’s always plausible that this squad comes back. I remember watching the Finals and being in absolute disbelief watching Kyrie Irving’s jumper fall. Surely the Warriors could still come back. Surely there was another miracle in the miracle tank.
Not tonight. But damn was it close.
Live by the three, die by the three. The canticle of Warriors fandom.

For those scoreboard watching:
The Kings are two games back of Memphis, and hold the tie breaker (H2H is tied, Kings will have better conference record if they have same record). The Kings and Grizzlies will both have something to play for when they play the Pelicans, and the Kings will almost certainly have something to play for against the Warriors.
The Suns, meanwhile, play the Spurs next, and a win clinches the 4 seed for them. Their last 3 games will be effectively meaningless, two of which are against the Lakers, then Clippers. Probably they'll rest the main guys against the Clippers in that last game.
As per Steph
“I still feel like we can [keep everyone together]," Curry said on 95.7 The Game's Steiny & Guru. "Obviously, we understand how important Bob is, we understand how important Coach is, our core, Draymond, Klay [Thompson], myself, Andre [Iguodala], even though he's had a rough year with injuries and whatnot, he's been extremely valuable behind the scenes in helping maintain our culture.”
