Glad they ere able to grab the W in spite of the ejection. Reminded me of Draymond's tech against ?Charlotte allowing game winning 3 pt corner shot from ?Rozier. Too many unthinking plays in closing minutes for a championship team.
I am struck that Poole’s defense is getting better. He doesn’t seem to be running after play players towards the basket so much. Rebounding. Have other people noticed defensive improvements?
I think overall Poole is becoming a much more complete player. The reason we're noticing more flaws is that he's being trusted more and it's playing in more crucial situations. All we've seen from him is improvement across the board, including defense.
Wait, is the Poole hate real around here? Cmon, DNHQ we can do better than this. You know JPs gonna shut the whole lotta yous up once he irons out his aggressiveness and y'know, grows a little older, since hes still 23
and sometimes you need to let your child fuck up to learn from it. Definitely a balance, but I do think Poole is improving (maybe not as quickly as I wish)
Scenario A: A random young player, dribbling the ball up the court at the beginning of a possession, looking at the set of the defense and your team's offense, and thinking about which play to run. And then over-dribbling, not passing, and then dribbling into trouble and losing the ball. Poor decision making, low BBIQ, inexperience, whatever you want to call it. Annoying, possibly even extremely annoying, but one hopes that players that do this will listen and learn. Eventually.
Scenario B: A veteran player, proven star, watches Spanky make these poor choices and reacts with emotion in the moment and throws his mouthguard in disgust. Emotion! Terrible! Also annoying but in my mind more forgivable. These guys have emotions, even the best. Hopefully he reminds himself to count to five when Scenario A happens again in the future.
Scenario C: vet player, inner ring HOFer, hero balls us out of a couple wins in a season where we need those. Is also a human and plays very poorly in stretches that also lead to losses. Team is relying on a young player who also makes mistakes. Which would you focus on?
Can’t stand this Poole hate… it was just the prior game that Steph over dribbled into multiple bad hero shots that actually lost the game. And a few games prior that he had two consecutive bad late turnovers…
I'm right there with you. And said as much somewhere down on this thread last night. No NBA GMs or coaches here - but there sure are plenty of fanatical opinions from fans who think they know more. And it seems to be getting more that way with every day. I'll just keep on scrolling.
Steph gonna wake up in the middle of some random night and be like “oh shit, THAT’S how Kerr feels when I throw a no-look one-handed pass into the stands.”
This is also a friendly reminder that single-game plus/minus stats are useless statistical indicators of a player’s performance in any given game, no matter how many comments you read or pseudo-statistically-literate podcasters you listen to that treat that column of the stat sheet like it is meaningful.
But in this case Poole didn’t play poorly. He attacked the boards, competed on D and only over dribbled in the 4th for the most part. What he did do was ignore winning principles in the final few possessions of a 1 possession game as the culmination of a period of being very very loose with the ball in the closing stretch that remarkably didn’t hurt the team.
Man I ❤️❤️❤️❤️Ros! She basically tried to teach Poole how to be more responsible at the end of games with her interview of Poole. Can she be the new coach when Kerr hangs it up?
Paraphrasing- Dear Poole Steph got ejected because he threw his mouthpiece in anger because you took a shot when he thought you should use more clock. How do you balance making good decisions with being aggressive as a young guy on this team?
Yeah, she handled that beautifully, imo. Most journalists who worry about access to players would have sheepishly skirted around the “you got Steph tossed!!” angle, and she went right there, while also being super respectful and supportive.
One thing the Grizzlies did extremely well this game was intercept and deflect overhead passes. The Warriors use those a bunch, and the Grizzlies were ready for them. Need a new strategy to hit the rollers next time.
Wow, that game was perfectly representative of the season.
The refs called so many fouls on the Warriors in the first quarter (including two phantom fouls on Klay) that they had to let the teams play for a bit in the second and the game was super fun.
When it came to winning time Poole got Curry ejected with his boneheaded play and then made the winning cut and finish to end it. What a roller coaster!
What a game. Free Kuminga (he only went 1 on 3 once!) Trade Poole. I’ll take Curry and the right process over the next Jamal Crawford.
Lacob seen arguing with Curry after his ejection? Maybe the brain trust is going to jettison all the core a couple seasons too early, but they don’t have Steve Young waiting in the wings.
I haven't seen the clip but there is no way that Lacob and Curry were arguing about something Curry did that upset Lacob, nor anything regarding a big picture decision. They were almost certainly angrily commiserating about something that happened in the game.
Were they arguing or just talking about about what happened? I don’t think we really know. My interpretation of it was that they were talking about how stupid that call was. However if they were arguing, tbh Lacob and the rest of the owners have every right to be angry at their employees for doing something foolish. Look at the amount of money they blow to keep this ship together every season. They really don’t have to spend like that.
They’ve made a ton more by spending like that than they would have sitting back and collecting tax payments like some previous groups used to. Kudos to them for having the vision.
It would be a lovely parable akin to killing the goose that lays the golden eggs if they fail to appreciate why they have made so much $$.
Thinking of Steph as merely an employee is simply beyond hubris drifting into the realm of complete solipsism, or is it megalomania?
So should he be treated like a god? At the very least Lacob can talk to Steph like colleagues like equals. Lacob doesn’t have to tip toe when talking to Steph nor should he and he has the right to be mad about something stupid that Steph did(this is also not his first time doing the same dumb act).
Besides, we also really don’t know if they’re actually arguing with each other, talking about how stupid the call was, nor do we know what words they chose to use when they were talking to each other(this is very important).
Plus you’re right about Steph not being quite an employee he’s definitely more the product. However, on paper and power dynamics speaking, Lacob can literally ship Steph out into a new team if he wanted to, not that he’d want to, but in that sense he is an employer of Curry’s.
God is a bit strong, though sometimes people wonder. More like partner and legend.
When your partner is pissed off you generally leave them space to cool off and then work it out later.
And that last bit is why it’s nerve wracking having a Silicon Valley mind who wants a family dynasty so involved in the basketball decisions of your home team. A blessing and a curse as we never knew it could be so good.
I really do think Lacob knows what he’s doing. Otherwise, Steph and the others wouldn’t have stuck around for so long. I’m not worried about the interaction. Steph isn’t going anywhere. He knows it’s his locker room but the team and the building is Lacob’s.
I’m glad Lacob is the owner of my home town team. Whereas the owner for the Oakland A’s smh lol. If Lacobs leans all in into nepotism in the near future, I wouldn’t really care as long as his expectations are for generating good results from the team. I think he would if he wants to see a return on his investment. To that, we shall see.
The Warriors have done a great job keeping the core of Players, coaching, and GM together through injury and excellence. And it paid off in another championship last year.
It just seems like the timer is on and it might be set a little early. Bob getting to his last contract year, Dray & Kerr have one year left and little sign that keeping Dray is a priority. Using draft picks on long term high risk growth stock, while they have to use the two way contracts to get rotation players, It’s just all feeling so fragile and Cowboys/Raiders esq. it feels like everyone is good at their jobs but the egos can’t all fit together for much longer. And while aging athletes are a lit fuse, that fuse has been cut to a nub.
This past 4 game stretch has been really promising. 2-2 against top competition, playing with fire and force... and they absolutely should have won the other two games too. Now, give me an 11-4 stretch through the end of Feb against all these middling Western Conference teams, and let's start making April plans.
I know... it's weird to think anything better than 0.500 ball. But it's go time and all these teams are a threat now. They have 10 games till the ASB. I do expect the Warriors to be at least 31-27 by then.
They are playing much better (especially on D) but the process still isn’t smart and consistent enough to be much over .500 unless they are playing teams that have shut it down completely.
Glad they ere able to grab the W in spite of the ejection. Reminded me of Draymond's tech against ?Charlotte allowing game winning 3 pt corner shot from ?Rozier. Too many unthinking plays in closing minutes for a championship team.

The onely cure for us is some time and winning some games. Let’s Go! Give Wiseman and PBJ some minutes goddamit.
Wait, is the Poole hate real around here? Cmon, DNHQ we can do better than this. You know JPs gonna shut the whole lotta yous up once he irons out his aggressiveness and y'know, grows a little older, since hes still 23
Emotional reactionary comments in a GDT? Say it ain't so!
Thank you.
I think everyone loves Poole like they love their children. Sometimes your children need to be set straight.
> I think everyone loves Poole like they love their children.
I promise you they don't
Belilaugh! You’re back! Someone was just wondering where you were.
I was wondering why I got so many comments about that yesterday lol.
and sometimes you need to let your child fuck up to learn from it. Definitely a balance, but I do think Poole is improving (maybe not as quickly as I wish)
We tend to get annoyed with him in the game threads for sure. DAMN IT YOU LITTLE BRAT.
Wondering if Draymond got teed of with the same sentiment?
There's plenty of hate from what I've been reading.
Lost in the mayhem at the end was that the Russian judge only gave Steph's mouthpiece toss an 8.
Overnight I remembered that Dillon Brooks has also been tossed from a game this year because he threw something off the court.
I can't remember if it was our Christmas game with them (Scott Foster is the one who chucked Brooks ... that much I remember).
Iguodala got auto-tossed for throwing the basketball into the crowd
Can’t stand this Poole hate… it was just the prior game that Steph over dribbled into multiple bad hero shots that actually lost the game. And a few games prior that he had two consecutive bad late turnovers…

Yeah someone should definitely sit Steph down about the Poole hate and all the rest…. After he’s had a chance to cool down & reflect.
A (late but so relevant) shout out to Trckeeman for making this comment after the Cav game.
"Kerr might want to show this E1P to the team. Poole might understand why he is getting criticism..."
if Kerr/Poole had watched that E1P, Poole would not have taken that shot...
Also also: Kumingaaaaaaa
Ha ha! I was thinking of that old clip where Kerr was all “No, no, no Steph…oh shit, it went in? 🤷🏼♂️“
Ziaire Williams’ -19 feels kinda real, tho. 😊
Sure, if a player plays poorly, then it may result in a poor plus/minus stat. The converse doesn't hold, however.
Depends what lineup he is playing with....
So freaking true about Steph!
It really felt like there were plenty of chances for an epiphany for some players coming out of this game. And it was a win!
And also: Kumingaaaaaaaa!!!!!!
Man I ❤️❤️❤️❤️Ros! She basically tried to teach Poole how to be more responsible at the end of games with her interview of Poole. Can she be the new coach when Kerr hangs it up?

Ros was the only part of the broadcast prod that I enjoyed. Like could she do all in game interviews for every game lol
I have always enjoyed ROS....
One thing the Grizzlies did extremely well this game was intercept and deflect overhead passes. The Warriors use those a bunch, and the Grizzlies were ready for them. Need a new strategy to hit the rollers next time.
Yea I was surprised how many times this happened.
Wow, that game was perfectly representative of the season.

A) Stupid shot or not, Steph got himself thrown out.
B)I watched it and though Lacob was upset with the refs when hearing that Steph got thrown out for throwing his mouthpiece.
I haven't seen the clip but there is no way that Lacob and Curry were arguing about something Curry did that upset Lacob, nor anything regarding a big picture decision. They were almost certainly angrily commiserating about something that happened in the game.

Yup, just as I suspected.
You mean as I described?
...yes?
Were they arguing or just talking about about what happened? I don’t think we really know. My interpretation of it was that they were talking about how stupid that call was. If the Grizzlies continue with these extended losing streaks, the number 2 seed might be up for grabs soon, think the Kings are 3.5 behind them.
They have to head back east at some point.
Denver and the Pels lost also....they all want to drop down to us; no fun without the Dubs in the West's Final...along with 14 other teams...lol
Can we just acknowledge Donte’s great inbound pass to Poole’s winning shot.
Acknowledged, along with they eye-contact between them that timed it perfectly. lol
It was tight
Yep, and Poole got it over with the left hand; right hand would have been blocked....
Only Klay..hitting a reporter with a paper plane.
https://mobile.twitter.com/WSandretto/status/1618504092782940162
Flagrant 2, auto ejection, miss the rest of the regular seaso... oh wait the game isn't still being played?
Also when I first read that I thought it was "hitting on a reporter with a paper plane" and wondered how Klay interacts with romantic interests...
If the reporter asked a really dumb question, this might have been a Yoda-like move.

ha ha haaaaaaa - that was a real funny post - 11-4 - ha ha haaaa
- now can you please get a long laugh on my behalf!

From your lips to Silver's ears (or whoever we're supposed to pray to)
yeah, that silver fellow needs a golden boot up his...
Maybe pray to the Creator, James Naismith?
