Random ex Warrior of the day: Austin Croshere

Expand full comment

Currently plays for the Knicks and goes by Bojan Bogdanovic.

Is klay gonna work his way on the bench anytime soon? Like this is just sad seeing him

Expand full comment

Am I the only one glad Kerr took Curry out for the final defensive play in favor of Chat GPII?

As smart a defender as Curry is, we've lost games by not doing this before.

Anyone else worried that Chris Paul coming back means less minutes for Podz instead of less minutes for Klay?

I'm not sure that makes our team any better.

Expand full comment

Yes

Expand full comment

A slight decrease sure but Podz will still play 20+ minutes easily even with CP3 back. I am not thrilled with how smaller we're gonna get with CP3 back though.

Expand full comment

I'm not sure if Paul is even better than Podz at this point in his career. Rebounding, scoring, and defense are probably all on the Podz side of the ledger. Chris Paul probably has him on ball handling and playmaking, but I'm not even sure how big the gap is.

We're finally playing really well, I'd hate to see us lose that out of loyalty and deference to these old guys.

Expand full comment

There was a little run late, the last bit of Klay w/o Curry, where man, CP3 would have been perfect. Things just felt disorganized, Klay was pressing, and the team didn't seem to know what else to do.

It was Klay-TJD-BPodz-LQ and then Kuminga came in for TJD.

Put CP3 in those LQ minutes, and I'm a lot less worried about Klay - with CP3, you can turn Klay into a spot-up shooter and let CP3 organize things, he'll get good looks for JFK and TJD and nobody will leave Klay open, but Klay won't be in a position to force the issue.

Expand full comment

Yea I like that vision a lot. Podz has been playing so well, I’d hate for a large CP3 role to take away from him.

I love Steph's "plenty of time to get your feet set" comment on the last shot.

Take that for data, Sports science.

Fun team! Welcome back Young Glove.

We can pull off 22-10 rest of the way in this fashion, RIGHT? That gets us to 6th seed for sure.

Bottom 8 teams: 8W/1L [Wins: was, spurs-3, cha, tor, mem, por; Loss: cha]

Next bottom 4 teams: 5W/1L [Wins: hou, chi, utah-3; Losses: utah]

--- DUBS -----

Next 5 teams: 5W/4L [Wins: lal, orl/mia, ind, dal-2; Losses: lal -2, mia/orl, dal]

Top 12 teams: 4W/4L [Wins: pels, nyk, mil, den; Losses: nyk, lac, min, bos]

I'd be okay with 7 or 8 if we can get Wolves or okc first round instead of Denver, just avoid 9th/10th where we need 2 play in wins.

Expand full comment

I think somewhere between 18-22 wins is likely barring injury, but I also think it's possible that the 6th seed is 48-49 wins. Most likely outcome is 7 or 8.

whaat a game - just watching the 4th Q

- dray to a flying seagull - oh no - thats Jonathan Livingston Kuminga

- Nurkic - the tallest player, somehow playing like the smallest thanks to the speed of the Dubs

- air Podz

- KD missing but booker not

- Dray finshing it off with that play

- Steph - steph - steph!

- finally eff of Doris Burke - the most irritating commentator I have heard

- what fun to watch Steph and damien lee dap it up!

STEPH !

Expand full comment

WHEW Doris... man...

Expand full comment

Doris burke - why is she so irritating

Expand full comment

I think she is horrible. She used to bash the Dubs at every opportunity several years ago. I have tuned her out ever since. A very insincere announcer/person.

Expand full comment

Normally I'm OK with Doris. The sound of her Voice gets on my nerves after a while. Her voice is sing Songy and she likes to wax rhapsodic on things and it just gets difficult for me to hear after a while. I think it would be good if they add JJ Reddick to that crew (which they are apparently considering ) just so she isn't talking so incessantly. But for whatever reason last night she just was really on one. She started out OK and then man just killing me in the second half of the game

Expand full comment

Different strokes.

I happen to like her and the current crew is a hell of a lot better then the previous.

Expand full comment

I typically like Doris, but she had some strange comments in this one. Her commentary on Podz's pass seemed off to me. Where was he supposed to put it to get it to Steph without Beal being able to jump it?

Expand full comment

She was really trying to push the agenda for certain calls. Do you have money on this game, Doris?

Expand full comment

Yeah, she's not my favorite announcer but she's fine in my opinion?

Expand full comment

Occasionally she'll start slobbering all over some player (Booker, always), but I think she's fine. But then again, I like both of the Van Gundys as well (particularly Stan, who I think is great).

Expand full comment

Stan kinda kills me and he seems to hate the Warriors lol. But I really liked Jeff I am alone in my principles on that lol. but I really enjoyed Jeff Van Gundy on the call.

Expand full comment

Interesting that you say he hates the Warriors. I don't get that sense at all.

What I think is that he hates sloppy, undisciplined play, which you have to admit, we've had a lot of the last two years.

Expand full comment

That's probably the truth but Stan still grates LOL

Expand full comment

I don't miss either of the Van Gundys. They're alright but nothing special.

Expand full comment

No attention to detail. I can complain about a lot of things, but "Kominga" and "Draymont" from a purported national-level announcer are enough for me to be really bothered. That and her saying a career 35 percent three point shooter (who was 25 percent for this game) has the best shooting form in the NBA while Wardell Stephen Curry II is standing on the court at the same time doing it over double teams.

Expand full comment

In fairness, I’ve heard people say Klay has the prettiest shooting form in the NBA while sharing the floor with Steph.

Expand full comment

In terms of pure form, that was true of pre-injury Klay.

Expand full comment

True, but he was shooting 43 percent from three when they did that.

Expand full comment

genuine question. i only have been subjected to her commentary a few times and know zero about her otherwise. did she do anything before being a tv presenter or has that been her only career?

Expand full comment

good question - as per AI she went from a player in some small time college to broadcaster! Nothing of any prominence in terms of performance in a sports arena!

Expand full comment

i think this perhaps gives us some explanation. i’ve worked in TV for a couple of decades. the people who strive to be in front of the cameras are mostly pretty odd and affected people. the ones who haven’t really done much else with their lives other than be a tv presenter tend to be desperate for love and attention. these types are kinda not real people, they’re whatever they think you want them to be so that they get what they want (the perception of love and attention). they’re fake and creepy when you engage with them off camera they are mostly not at all fun to have a drink with and hang out. in the industry they are called “the talent” and they think they’re special and unfortunately they’re treated that way so it’s constantly reinforced.

Expand full comment

Perfect explanation. My brief stint in the video/film production industry remembers this strangeness,

Expand full comment

Sorry but nurkic needs to be neutered by dray and everybody else - eff of you pos - just catching up with replay

Expand full comment

it’s gotta be a major headfuck for a multi championship winning, once elite athlete, to watch from the bench, a rookie on the court playing in your place in a tight game that desperately needs to be won.

Expand full comment

I'm sure it's hard. But as much as I love Klay, I thought it better that he wasn't on the floor at the end. He finished 2-10 (1-7 from distance), and I just imagine him out there trying to fire it up to recapture former glory, without regard to the clock or situation on court. That makes it harder to win.

Expand full comment

It would have been better if he wasn't on the floor last night for most of the minutes he was. His "gravity" does not justify the minutes Kerr continues to give him even when his shot is clearly off.

Warriors 2-0 in the post CoJo era. But the point differential has gone way down.

Expand full comment

really - you want a point differential - all I want is +1 versus -1

Steph believes Draymond did an excellent job walking the line tonight, calling Nurkić's comments "idiotic" 👀

A playoff series between these two teams might be too much.

it will be 5 games at most - Dubs that is

I watched the 40 minute replay version and it feels like they would have won this going away if not for Klay. I’d really love to see Moses get some of Klay’s minutes. I love Steph heroics, but if not for Klay they wouldn’t have needed those heroics tonight.

I had the same thought. We won the game by 1, and klay played 24 minutes. I’m not sure if we would’ve won at all if he had played 30-34.

Expand full comment

Is that publicly posted?

Expand full comment

No. Random YouTube posters will post 9-12 minute highlights of each quarter sometimes. Otherwise, I’ll go to nba replay or a similar site, but they tend to be much more delayed than the yt posters.

I tried doing League pass, but the first time I watched it the fucking ticker tape spoiled the game score for me as I was watching the replay on mobile which is idiotic.

We were also 6 of 11 on FTs. If we made all of them, or even 4, we would have had some cushion in the end. Our players really need to work on them.

Expand full comment

Curry, Wiggins, and Looney each missed 1, and Kuminga missed 2. Since Kuminga is going to be fouled a lot when he drives to the basket, he's gonna have to work on his FTs a lot.

Expand full comment

Yes, but Kuminga's been shooting at nearly 80% from the stripe the last 12-13 games or so

2/12- @ Jazz

2/14- vs. Clippers

2/15- @ Jazz

2/22- vs. Lakers

2/23- vs. Hornets

2/25- vs. Nuggets

2/27- @ Wizards

2/29- @ Knicks

The hardest games IMO will be the Clippers game, second Jazz game (9th game in 14 nights!!!!), Lakers game (because FT disparity), 4th and final Nuggets matchup, and the Knicks game.

One of those will be a loss. Not sure which.
