Stephen A Smith says he would’ve physically swung on LeBron: “If that man would’ve put his hands on me. I would’ve immediately swung on him. Immediately.”
Is it bad luck to say “go Knicks” “or go KAT” here? More prudent to pretend to the bball gods that I don’t care? I know, I’ll think “go Kinks” instead. That will fool them. (Save me, save me, save me from this squeeeeeze…)
Streaks just feel more matchup dependent. Warriors on two game skid because they haven't won in Atlanta since 2018 and Miami is a bad matchup for the W's.
On the question of whether Miami is a better team than a Steph-less Dubs, I’d like to believe that no, our guys were simply distracted. It’s Miami. Maybe. But, even if you corrected toward the norm for 3pt%, Miami completely dominated the paint. (Maybe they would not have been able to collapse so much if Steph played, or if Moses looked himself.) In most recent games, JB has provided us with better interior presence and more inside/outside balance. Not last night. Maybe because they know his tendencies?
Clearly, JB needed more help in the paint on both ends of the floor. IMO, the best hope for that going forward will come from Post. His strengths are obvious. But, keeping an eye on the rookie’s shortcomings, I see game to game improvements that could be a big reason for ‘post-season’ hope in the next year or two.
After last night, I’m looking for hope. I know he’s an older rookie but he has shown an ability to still learn. He has two things you really can’t teach - size and a soft touch. While he might yet improve enough in the next month to help more, in the off season he could add strength to his already tough demeanor. He could continue to learn how to defend both at the rim and on the perimeter. He could improve his handle and footwork, as well as his post moves. He could become the 3pt shooting beast that complements Green and Butler in the front-court.
Agree. - Anthony Davis and other athletic bigs are Dubs kryptonite - but TJD is less likely to develop a 3 (necessary to play alongside JB and DG) than Post is to add 30 lbs muscle and learn to body up without fouling.
I don't think either is very likely, TBH. Post down low is OK, but if the big can shoot and pull him out into space, bodying up isn't possible. He was cooked if the big drove.
I don't know about playing TJD alongside Draymond. We really need someone who can guard bigs when Draymond is sitting. Loon was that guy (and apparently was better than I thought last night), but I don't really think he's going to be the answer next season.
Yeah. Just looking for hope. You don’t think he’s quick enough?
Post is not the kind of big who will be able to defend the perimeter well - few are. But his feet aren’t bad and I think he could catch up with TJD’s inside game. If TJD develops a shot, I’d be very happy. But he’s not going to ever come close to Post in 3pt%. That outside shot is such a weapon and could complement Green (and Jimmy) so well - if this smart, motivated, tough rookie learns some skills.
I still buy the pre-season axiom that you can’t play DG and TJD together. I guess I don’t see that changing and I’m forced to imagine how Post could improve.
If TJD developed a reliable midrange shot, he would greatly increase his value. It doesn't have to be a 3, which I agree is very unlikely. He also needs to consistently finish layups and put-backs and improve his FT shooting, and those things should be doable.
I’d love that. Not holding my breath. And maybe my hopes for Post are just as far-fetched.
I understand what TJD does well but, even KL lacks a reliable mid-range (at least one that opponents respect) and he had a much better shot at UCLA than I think we could ever expect TJD to develop. You can’t see Post someday defending the rim nearly as well? He has the tallest standing reach on the team. It seems that good coaching and effort could make up more ground with Post than TJD. And I’m really not hopeful we can find a better center elsewhere.
Yes I can see Post being a good rim defender in the future, although probably not elite. He needs to get stronger, and I imagine that’s part of the plan for him.
Indeed Loon had a good midrange shot at UCLA but that was before his hip problems. I don’t expect TJD to develop much range but I see no reason he can’t at least be decent from 10-12 feet out. Right now he has to get all the way to the rim or the glass. Some players do improve their shooting after getting to the league. Maybe that’s wishful thinking though.
Ware looked very good against us and has played well in his past 4-5 games. He's shooting 31% from 3 but he can rebound, and he's not quite 21 so plenty of time to develop.
It seemed we started with Draymond covering both Adebayo and Ware, both dunking and rebounding over him in the first 2 minutes. GP2/Moody/Podz are great, but none are going to switch onto Adebayo/Ware to help Butler. Frustrating to watch Draymond get beat up with Post/Looney on the bench. Average starter height 6'5. Compare to SBDS 6'6 or Hamptons5 6'7. And those were closing lineups, we'd start Bogut/West/Zaza/Ezeli/McGee/Bjelica/Jerebko.
Post got roasted when he was put in there... And we are not going to have any offense to speak of with Dray/Loon/Butler on the floor together. That trio, even with Steph & Buddy, would really struggle.
They just don't really have a starting quality center, I could see them looking to bring one in next season. But for now I think this is probably what they have to do, double down on their strengths and hope it is enough.
>>>Lonzo Ball on watching that Bulls road trip from home: “I was super proud of them. I was screaming at the TV, man. It's been an up and down season, but it's a great time to get hot right now. … With Coby playing how he's playing, I feel like we can beat anybody."<<<
-Heat was laser-focused from start to end. They had the game circled on their calendar and wanted to show JB that they are not scrubs. However, the fan thought that if the team could play this well, why couldn't they bring that same effort in the other games?
-Thought that Butler's poor performance was due to Miami knowing Butler's bag of tricks since he used to play for them. Also thought that his knees weren't 100%, and the multiple suspensions has affected his shooting.
-Thought that the Warriors lack of size was one of the reasons why the Warriors lost. Also didn't like how the Warriors fans were trashing JB during the game thread.
-Believed that Moody was playing too tense, which led to him going 0/9 on threes.
First I've heard Butler might have knee issues (chronic knee issues would be scary). That said, I'm sure the Dubs did the due diligence, so hopefully this comment is way off base.
I think we can only have 1 of these players on the floor at a time; Kuminga, Heild, Santos, Looney, TJD, Spencer.
Each is great as a 5th man, but with even just 3 of these guys out there simultaneously we're dead. Kerr will load the floor with these guys, in crucial moments, when Moses, GP2, Podz, and Post are available.
“Probably the effort coming out of the jump. We’ve got to guard a little bit better. Seems like as of late everyone’s been scoring at will at the rim, getting to the FT line. We’ve gotten away from what got us a couple wins.”
Chris Bosh was about the same age as Dame when he was forced to retire. Going to be tough for Dame to return to play. Dame has one year left on contract then player option.
Taran Armstrong has been looking smooth as hell in the summer league. I'll gladly take him as a backup PG next year for the big club

Yeah, that would have gone well...
Bro can go hand out with his pals Sean Hannity and Bill Mhar and eff off.
They are all the worst.
Don’t forget O’Reilly
Daaayyyyuuummmmm! SAS is so tough! LeBron better watch out. He better have peak Mike Tyson on standby for body guard duty!

You really got me now with that comment.
Surprisingly, the Warriors def. efficiency post-ASB is #2 in the league despite the Hawks and the Heat shooting very well against the Warriors.

However, the Warriors net rating has fallen to #5, and their off. efficiency has fallen to #12 in the league.

Not super comforting given how they've played without Steph.
Injury report notes for today's games:
Tatum upgraded to questionable.
Harden is available for the Clippers.
No Brunson and McBride for the Knicks.
Lebron and Rui are available for the Lakers.
Giannis and Lillard are out for the Bucks.
And all of a sudden the Suns are on a 4 game win streak. Really weird season.
Feels like that every year tho, haha

It’s really too bad he missed out on Milocevic.
I'd say that we don't match up well at all with either Adabayo or Ware.
In general, athletic bigs give us a lot of trouble. Post's probably not going to fix that problem.
Unless TJD somehow becomes playable, it's just Draymond, and that's not going to work every night, given how undersized he is and that he's 34.
Was anyone else as impressed with Ware as I was? He looks like a guy you can build around (SSS, could be wrong, of course).

This is what happens when you lack talent.
You put this guy in to address this issue and he creates a different issue.
Your row boat has sprung a leak and you plug one hole but another one erupts.
If we had Bam and Ware instead of TJD and Looney Kerr would know what he is doing again, right? No more row boat but a huge luxury yacht.

Pretty much. As much as I like Post, he's a rookie and will constantly make mistakes against NBA vets time to time.

Games to track tonight:
Pacers vs. Lakers
Knicks vs. Clippers
Nuggets vs. Bucks
Suns vs. Celtics
I need to put in a daily request for the memory wipe please.
If’s you order 9, the 10th one is free! Not that you’ll remember, but your bank account will!
You already did.
Did what?
Don't know if it was discussed below, but what a bummer about Dame. Hope he gets healthy and it isn't a recurring issue.
Chris Bosh was about the same age as Dame when he was forced to retire. Going to be tough for Dame to return to play. Dame has one year left on contract then player option.
Not a doctor, but there are other blood clot situations that have resolved themselves. A Bosh kind of situation is on the table though.
Dame won't be able to play while he's on blood thinners so hopefully he can get off those sooner rather than later.
