As y'all might have guessed already, I've had Lil Mac penciled-in for a roster spot/3rd PG for a long time, assuming he does not implode at Training Camp. Easily see this instant energizer off the bench/running team/transition, particularly if either of the two PGs ahead of him miss any time due to injury...

So I’m curious about Tyreke Evans. I’ve watched a couple of videos and he seems like he dribbles a lot. Would he work in the Warriors system? Also, I’m curious about the drug suspension. I’m guessing there are more than a few positive drug tests per year (even of the so called drugs of abuse which includes cocaine), but it seems he got a pretty hard sentence. Am I wrong that thinking that if you give a bunch of 18-24 alpha male kids millions of dollars that there isn’t a bit of drug use going on? Or was there something more to Tyreke Evan’s suspension, like maybe multiple tests in a row?

Part of me is discounting the importance of the last two roster spots. And part of me is thinking, GP2 was the 15th slot and look what he did. So maybe something great will come and surprise us. I hope (and am pretty confident) that the whole warriors FO is working with the mindset to find one more high impact player. But realistically, whoever fills these slots is not likely to get minutes. Interesting juxtaposition I suppose.

Has there ever been a better pairing in Sports? Lacob-Meyers-Kerr-Curry. Owner-GM-Coach-Star.

I would call them the Fantastic Four, but those movies sucked. Who are the competing groups?

Coming Soon! Why the Dubs should move off of Draymond. Since I am one of the biggest Draymond fans and supporters, Die Hard, run bare foot over broken glass for Day-Day, I must ingest another bottle of wine before I go down that rabbit hole. But it is the thought experiment that must be spoken. It's what every GM is paid to do. Take a deep breath, exhale, and exam the possibilities, as dire as those possibilities may be. Someone has to do it. Gimme a minute while I look for the sword I am about to fall on. And pour another glass.

what's PJ Dozier's injury recovery timeline? always liked him as a player, though I guess he might want a spot with a better shot to win steady playing time

I know we’re way over the cap and the luxury tax has already blown our payroll through the roof, but it’s not my money and I’m greedy. Let’s figure out a way to create a roster spot for Perks. Apricot for Perks in a sign-and-trade; who says “no”? Hell, while we’re at it, let’s offer Duby a buyout and since Hardee’s on a 2-way deal, he can be waived, right? That might clear up enough space to sign Viray and Murray and we have a competitive team again.

The only thing left to do would be to vote on whether Eric, Daniel and Duby qualify as HDNHQFL. (The only flaw in this plan is with Apricot gone, who’d run the poll?)

I've been thinking about which former Dubs player would be a good comparison for Matt McClung and came up with Monta Ellis. Both are relatively small (6'2" vs 6'3") score-first guards with defensive short-comings. Quick, microwave scorers from 3 levels but are lacking length on the defensive end. Mac has better handles and might even be a bit quicker and shiftier than Monta. Feel free to chime in...I'm interested in hearing what the rest of the DNHQ community thinks.

Thanks for this, Perks and Eric! Impressively thorough and insightful, as always.

I was also hot on Tyreke Evans for the “Andre slot” if Andre decides to hang ‘em up, but the fact that he seems to be generating little interest even after reportedly working out for a bunch of teams (incl. GS, IIRC?) makes me wonder how spry he’s looking these days. But who knows, maybe they have a nudge-wink deal with him in place, contingent on Andre’s decision? The past connection with Myers is definitely intriguing; and obviously the peak version of Reke — rugged, 6’-6” / 7’ wingspanned beast who can guard 1-4, hit threes, and run the offense —would be a pretty ideal fit in Kerrball.

Blast from the past from Sactown Royalty’s Tom Ziller on ‘Reke’s freakish length for a PG: https://www.sactownroyalty.com/platform/amp/2009/5/30/893582/size-at-the-point-the-length-of

Thank you for taking the time to put this together. Your attention to detail and tone made it easy to follow. I like that you owned your own preferences but did not make the assertions into arguments.

This was a great read and I will wonder how it all shakes down over the next month or so

This morning I have watched again LAL@GSW 115-117, our last game before ASG, in February. Guys, despite we were without Dray, we came back hard from -6 at 4:00, and with a helluva defense! Let’s think about it.

This is a great list, thanks for the post Perks! Usually around this time of year the Dubs sign a player or two that I either have never heard of, or at least only vaguely know. What are the odds that the Dubs bring into camp someone Perks has missed? I’d say 2 in 5 they surprise us. How do I place that bet in Vegas?

And I’ll be the first (today - have we ever discussed this before?) to flat out guarantee that Andre won’t join the team. The ‘offer’ for a roster spot is just ‘Extreme Respect Theater’ and neither the Dubs or Andre mean it. Really, it’s for us and the media. Andre will officially turn it down the day before training camp starts.

So, six weeks or so until camp starts. Back to my morning coffee.

I'm somewhat ambivalent on whether or not Iguodala comes back. It seems odd to me to use a roster spot for a guy who I'm guessing won't be contributing much on the floor this season, but the FO, coaching staff, and players clearly know his value better than I do. If they say he's worth it, then I suppose that works for me. Whatever he decides, I just hope that he decides it sooner rather than later.

If he does decide to retire, I think it's most likely that the 14th spot gets filled by a veteran. The team is overflowing with youth, and it's clear that they value experience and mentorship. It wouldn't surprise me if they reached out to a well-respected older player who still hasn't signed elsewhere to see if they'd like to come in as a veteran mentor/player, similar to what they would be using Iguodala for (although hopefully who could get more playing time than they likely could out of Andre).

Who would be on the short list for that sort of vet? I'm really not sure. I don't love the vet players available, for reasons lots of people have mentioned. But to be honest, we're to the point of the offseason where pretty much anyone left available is available for a reason.

My prediction: if Andre doesn't re-sign then the Warriors leave the 14th spot open through training camp to spark some real competition (similar to last year), while keeping their eye on which players shake loose from other teams.
