Notes on Summer Game 6. Kuminga is the defensive stopper??
The game ending was unusually random, even for summer league
Apricot's In-Game Notes
My #1 priority was to keep the commenting community together and keep the environment healthy. So, definitely a successful transition from my perspective. We have plenty of stuff lined up for the — brace yourself — six weeks before training camp, and we’ll try to keep spaces open for conversation about whatever Warriors news there is
Update 2pm: SAC won, so GSW will not be in the Final. But the real dream remains alive, GSW v HOU on Tuesday… come on schedulers, you know this will be more exciting than the BOS v SAC blah final, let’s do this people clap clap
Peeking into the LAC game to see Keon Johnson. First thing he does is dribble once and hand the ball to the defender. Next trip, misses rotation to corner to give up a 3. He looks really small on court. KJ can’t get much done off the dribble iso. Ah I forgot BJ Boston was on LAC. Crafty driver.
Keon with a clanky jumper but hustles for a putback. Then another hustle OREB.
For all your buyout fantasies…

We need Elam Ending!!

In case you were curious about the official reasons:

Officially, GP2 is out for rest. Unofficially, I think GP2 is clearly worthy of fighting for spot #15 at training camp, but not SO much better that he's clearly won it. So let Guy and JaQuori audition a little more.
Good patience from Jaquori to let Jessup cut open. Jessup then drives for the easy layup. Don’t know if Summer League is ready for Jessup’s athleticism
JONATHAN
That was a slick no-look pass by Jaquori to an open Guy while staring at Jonathan
JFK playing with some restraint… he turned down about three potential contested jumpers so far.
JFK sank way down to help Guy with a giant posting him up, but this left an open corner 3. I think in a properly functioning D, that wasn’t JFK’s fault… the wing needed to fill behind the sink and zone the two shooters
JFK can *really* see that baseline cutter. ANOTHER sweet dime.
Come on Kira Lewis Jr, you got JFK on an iso, you HAVE to drive on him for science. In the meantime, JFK walks into a bricky 3. Trey Murphy is not blowing people away but he’s piling up some points.
Jaquori with a decent switch on that split cut… I guess the refs are in summer league too, practicing real game situations? Like these picky video reviews?
A definitely lack of drama today. Jessup looks like he’s settled in (unlike the first three games) but he’s clearly not going to shoot his way onto the main roster this year. No GP2 to see if what kind of positive or negative dunk highlight we will generate, or if he will hit a jumper. JFK seems to be mostly stepping back to let the other players show their stuff. Jaquori looks pretty solid and composed, but the ball is flubber bouncing off the other guys No Moody to see if his drives get better. So… kind of waiting to see if JFK will play and if he is going to try something absurd
Goofus also came with the Rollerball video down the thread, so it’s an idea. The nickname “Jonathan” is kind of a pain to type… I was trying it out earlier
Booooo ** We have just been told that Golden State will play the Los Angeles Lakers Tuesday at 4pm at Thomas & Mack for their last Summer League game.

We wanted HOU. Boooooo
Exciting last minute. Trey blocks JFK on the post up. By transitivity, Trey is now better that Ben Simmons. JFK makes it up on the other end with nice iso defense to force an air ball by Marshall, and then he leaks out for the go-ahead fast break basket.
Interested to see who guards Naji Marshall on the last play. Will JFK ask for the assignment? No, but he jumps out to switch onto what looked like a handoff. I like that JFK thinks of himself as the defensive stopper.
Kind of torn between thinking it’s stupid to foul JFK on a 3 and thinking it’s 4 dimensional chess Hack a Minga
Interesting… JaQuori waves off JFK screen on the play at OT.0.10. Almost gets to the rim, but drops it.
Also, in OT, they mostly have been giving the ball to JFK isoed at the wing with the ball swinging back to him, as opposed to having him run a high PNR. I’d like to see JFK running more PNR.
Lost in the bizarre ruling — I think I speak for everyone by saying WTF — it’s worth saying out loud that JFK made a great rotation to block that shot.
I've never seen the "continuation allowed during a mistaken whistle" rule, but it makes sense to me.
That was a fun weird ending. Kuminga being very assertive all around, good sign for the future.
FYI, in the postgame, Kuminga says his teammates call him JK.
I forgot to mention that Kaleb Wesson is now playing on the Clippers Summer League team. In today's loss, Wesson played 15 minutes had 6 boards, 5 assists, 2 steals, and a block. He's a whole lot better than Mawugbe
Just a few comments about Summer League players.
It seems to me that Sengun, Yurtseven, & Luka Garza are the best big men rookies. 2 Turks that have a relentless front court game will definitely put Turkey on the map for big men, similar to Serbia and the former Yugoslav Balkans. Imagine Bam & Yurtseven starting for Miami. Yikes! The only real knock on Sengun is his mediocre FT%, his achilles heel. Garza was drafted 2nd round #52! Detroit was definitely a big winner in the draft with #1 & #52 picks.
Too many wings and back court players to say who are the stars. We'll need to see further results in the exhibition games.
