OT: Tim Royce nonchalantly threw in "Mulder wants to believe" during broadcast after he hit his 4th or 5th 3 pointer. TR is a Warriors treasure.

TR and JB, forever Warriors!

I told you guys Mulder was good. The sceptics on this forum said the sample size is small. I hope the warriors sign him. What Mulder represents is an insurance policy for Steph against box and 1.. nobody can box and 1 Steph With him on the floor. Bowman was signed for 350k this year and I think a minimum next year. Maybe the front office can sign Mulder to one of those too.i feel shooting is psychological. See how Poole and paschall shot well when Mulder got it going.

Saying the sample size is small is not disagreeing with you. It's agreeing that, so far, he looks good, but ... The sample size is small. If you want to know why people care about sample size, just think about Jordan Bell. To be clear I am optimistic about MM's potential but ... (you guessed it) the sample size is small.

Expand full comment

Bell had zero jumpshot.. I only considered him a mature body. He was ok and his weaknesses could be hidden because we were swimming in talents. With the talent we had then, any type of shot from most of our 2nd units was technically a comparatively low %age shot..I knew he was going to have issues once he stepped out. Look at Looney too. He may not survive 2yrs in the nba if he gets traded..

I disagreed with a lot of your takes, but I'm really happy to see Mulder doing so well. And he is making some TOUGH shots at key times!

This was a fun game. Wiggins looked good and that’s a plus for me. Poole is definitely improving which is a great sign too.

I was waiting after the game. That Jordan Poole removes, his mask on... And reveals that he is Stephen Curry! And remove a masking tape on his Jersey, that he was really wearing no# 30 instead of # 3!!!

I’m sorry he doesn’t get much attention because his stats don’t show, but El Subcomandante JTA tonight was relevant, imho, when the Nuggets were rebounding away, because he launched the charge by boxing out and throwing himself wildly “viva Zapata” style (infacts he got punched in the face). Un guerrillero!

Interesting how for one night, GSW overachieved on their weakness (3-point pct.) and underachieved on their strength (free throw pct.) in a win, nonetheless. It's like the KD-era Warriors getting their ass whooped but only committed 5 turnovers and Iggy making all his freethrows, not to mention Draymond hitting four threes.

Remember when people on here kept saying Will Barton was the absolute Warriors killer. Oh wait that's me... I'm People 🙃

If there’s an MVP thru out the year for a Warriors killer... MVP Barton will be. And Lou Williams is the runner up! Jarrete Jack is the retired Warriors killer!

Uhh, just a matter of taste, of course, but it's too dad-joke for me.

And EP deserves a great nickname. Any variation of the Animal or the Beast, etc. is just kinda generic for such an unheralded instant impact player who looks so burly to be as graceful and controlled as he is.

Someone suggested Air Bear and I like the idea and the originality but it's still not quite there. Just my opinion.

Jordan Poole playing with an insane level of confident and sinking shots made me incredibly happy.

Not to mention, Poole (and Wiggins) were making advanced cross court level reads that were generating open shots. Kudos to them.

What a great game. Second-best win of the season for me, right behind the win over the Rockets on christmas. This may have actually been more impressive than that win, but I'll always relish beating the Rockets.

The wins vs Portland, Houston and Denver have been my top 3 this year. Portland looked absolutely shocked they lost, Houston looked nothing like the contender they were being hyped to be and Denver I think simply looked past the Warriors tonight, thinking they could flip the switch anytime and blow by our Dubs. Well, our guys found a switch too, sorry Nuggets.

Mulder looks legit. He was splashing 3s off some terrible passes tonight.

Can we sign him to a similar deal to Lee's with our current cap situation?

Expand full comment
author

this is a good question

> Can we sign him to a similar deal to Lee's with our current cap situation?

does anybody know?

My guess would be "no" because otherwise why would they be doing alllllll these 10 day contracts. And those contracts are crazy cheap, I'll have to look it up again but under 100k for sure.

Expand full comment

Each 10-day is worth like 93k, and we are currently 530k under the cap. So I'd assume no... But I'm not sure how much a til end-of-year deal would be worth.

Surely part of the 10 days is kicking the tires on g-leagers and washed out dudes to see if they can find some quality players for the end of the bench

Expand full comment

I think the fact that we are so under the total is the reason they won't try to sign anybody just yet, but if Mulder keeps hitting shots and playing well, they'll give him another 10, and then if they can, I imagine they'd sign him damned quick to anything, unless it was him vs. one of the 2-way dudes, then I dunno. (who is it now besides Bowman? It's JTA, right?)

And we got Jonathan Simmons in the G-League getting all ready for training camp...all we need to do is give the team some defensive identity and get one more defensive, rebounding C/PF and we'll be in damned good shape.

Expand full comment

So they can then sign said players if they find them.

How many players short of the league minimum are we?

It's so well balanced right now... Damn. Like 4 guys with 5+rebounds, 3 with 5+assists, and everybody had at least one or two of one or both. Everybody scoring well, getting a steal or a block... And this is the level of production we should have on our bench when the Big 3 comes back.

Expand full comment

Unfortunately almost all of these guys will be unrestricted free agents next year so there is no guarantee that the Warriors can re-sign any of them if they continue to perform. That said, I doubt that 20 days of good play is going to land Mulder, Bender, or JTA anything much more than a 1 year minimum contract.

Expand full comment

At a minimum, Paschall and Poole are under contract for next year.

Expand full comment

Chriss also

Expand full comment

Yep, Poole and Paschall will be on the 2nd year of their rookie deal as will Bowman and Smailegic even though they aren't currently available. I wouldn't be surprised to see Bowman get waived or traded for a late round draft pick if the Warriors have a roster crunch and have the opportunity to sign JTA, Mulder, and maybe Bender for next season. With the emergence of Poole as a point guard as well as having point forwards in Green and Wiggins, it's not clear he still fills a need. That would be especially true if Chasson Randle impresses as he can at least make free throws and uncontested 3s.

You think Bender will get another 10-day?

Expand full comment

His first game, I would've said definitely not. But he stepped it up these last couple games to the point where I'm like... maybe?

His interior defense is miserable for a guy his size, his perimeter defense is typical for a guy his size (i.e. not good) and his defensive instincts have a long way to go. His rebounding has looked more respectable but he was still worthless against Plumlee during that one stretch, until they put Toscano-Anderson back in.

On offense, his pick-and-pop game is respectable and that's about it. He jumps about as high as Zaza (~2 inches?), has worse hands, and misses more layups. Oh, and Zaza had that reliable elbow jumper, too.

I could see another 10-day to test whether the coaches' influence could improve his defensive positioning, but Dragan Bender still seems like a very, very incomplete player right now.

...I kinda hope not. He's hit a few big shots and had...maybe one really good night, and was solid tonight, but he's so lacking in so many ways.
