Mavs Athletic writer on why the Mavs went back to attacking Looney in the 2nd half:

“Golden State reacted in the third quarter by moving Curry onto Dorian Finney-Smith, a slower-releasing shooter who doesn’t cause such panic when relocating from the ball. It’s probably why Dončić went from attacking Wiggins to seeking out Looney switches. Without Bullock’s disruptive gravity, Wiggins re-established proper defensive positioning against Dončić more often.”

Currency fact:

It's a little known fact that the Looney is pegged to .85 Olajuwon's.

“But Curry’s been putting them to bed in these playoffs. Game 2 was the fifth time this postseason he’s scored double-digits in the fourth quarter. All of them close games. All of them at times his team needed him to deliver.”

“They had us in the first half”

Community request: in the Kerr era how many regular season/post season wins do we have after being down 15 or more points? Who’s the stat head here? Cause when the Dubs are down 15 I never worry. What about other teams (i.e. same stats)?

Something is on my chest that needs to get off:

There’s a lot of BBIQ here at DNHQ and I love you all, but not a single person here knows more about basketball than Steve Fucking Kerr, no one here knows these players and what goes on behind the scenes more than Steve Fucking Kerr, and no one here spends more time working toward winning basketball than Steve Fucking Kerr. If you think you do, please show us your basketball resume as a rebuttal.

It’s perfectly fine to disagree with a coaching decision, but can we please refrain from referring to him as things like an idiot or moron when we do? I know it’s a game thread and emotions get hot, but would think after everything he’s accomplished in his college/NBA career and for the Dubs in particular, he deserves that respect.

"My hot take: it is good to have a basketball team full of players capable of doing Basketball Things.

The Warriors have a roster full of guys who can do Basketball Things. Pretty much everyone on the team can do stuff like dribble the ball, make a cut, make a layup, pull up for an open midrange shot. Whether this is because their system has forced their players to learn to do Basketball Things or because they have wisely identified and acquired players who could already do Basketball Things is debatable. But they can all do Basketball Things.

The Mavs, on the other hand, only have four guys who can do Basketball Things other than catching the ball and quickly shooting the ball, and one of those four guys is out for the playoffs. This puts an enormous amount of pressure on the three guys who can do Basketball Things, as they have to create the entirety of the team’s offense for all 48 minutes. One of those players is so transcendently good at Basketball Things that the team often wins despite this deficiency. But it’s an uphill road every time.

Can a team with three guys who can do Basketball Things defeat a team full of guys who can do Basketball Things? Yes, but it’s going to be a hell of a battle to do so."

I’m most interested in how the league will address the distraction of the Mavs Bench. I’m sure the Warriors camp is on the case about it, since Steph threw a missed pass into one of the white shirted Mav Bench players during a momentum altering point in the game. Or we should just all wear Mavs home jersey colors in the sidelines.

I’m going to miss hearing Warriors and Chuck you suck chants during the post game these next couple games.

Sensei Apricot, can I give myself an A for able to identify Dubs' defense live, after watching your last E1P?

We've heard it so many times before, but it bears repeating: Steph Curry may play well in the regular season, but he does not step up in big playoff games, certainly not in the 4th quarter or with the game on the line. As the numbers tonight bear out. Chump.

I saw a tweet about a guy substituting the lyrics of the song “Hang on Sloopy” with “Kevon Looney”. And now I can’t stop humming to it myself.

Keeevon Looney, Looney Kevon.

Steve Kerr said he went to rookie Moses Moody in the fourth quarter because of his size, strength and poise.

“He has a real calm about him. He doesn’t seem like a 19-year-old rookie.”

I just can't stop watching the highlights of this game. If you need him, that is the best outside shooter of all time repeatedly driving to the rim and finishing through contact to put the game away. Shooting 60% from 3 was nice too.

And we all know, not from wishful thinking, but from experience, that Steph is just about due for a breakout game.

Oh my goodness. They look so comfy on O. It’s night and day from last series.

My favorite minutes are the beginning of the fourth quarter when Poole is cooking and we take/extend leads. With Steph waiting to close it out. The longer he cooks, the longer Steph gets to wait. Tonight Poole had 8 points and 2 assists in the first half of the 4th quarter. Steph had 10 points and 1 assist in the 2nd half. (Poole got 4 obligatory free throw points to help close it).

And not just them. Everyone scored. Everyone made plays. Their D was absolute butt in the 4th. they’re going to be better. The series will get tougher. We need to do what Phoenix couldn’t. Take a tough one from Dallas on the road.
