[Reboyras] The Golden State Warriors are looking to sign Summer League standout, Ethan Thompson, to an Exhibit 10 contract to bring him to Santa Cruz for next season
Kamala is a known Warriors fan. Whether she gets some of her joy from Steve Kerr or Steph Curry... she does represent the East Bay and therefore our sports alligences.
On to international sports politics...
Great commentary from Joe Viray:
“In a world where the USA’s monopoly on talent and skill is slowly slipping away…
“Defense will always be of equal— if not higher— priority, a must-have in the day and age of international opponents overcoming the talent deficit with skill, shooting, and schematic ingenuity…
“ A program that is always in transition …. demands a heavy diet of successful defensive possessions.”
“…but defense can also be the realm of the thinking player…
“Draymond Green is arguably the most intelligent defender of all time…”
Kamala is also known for her toughness ... which she may have also gotten from her Warriors' fandom. Hopefully she also gets some of his intelligence.
Politicians only appear to be fans of local sports teams because it's part of the job imo, no fucking way can these people tell you which Warrior bounced a ball off of Carlos Boozer's head in a game without looking it up.
With occasional exceptions. President Obama was a true sports fan and liked to hoop. I assume he rooted for Chicago teams (I don't recall), and if so, he might not know who bounced a ball off of Carlos Boozer's head but Boozer was a Bull for four seasons during the Obama presidency so I bet President Obama remembers him.
It should not be a disgrace for USA basketball to be beaten by international players.
The differences in national pride for a large powerful younger nation and smaller older ones make it even harder for a transition program to prepare to compete against teams that have the advantage of being together as a unit in repeated international competitions.
The USA needs (on many fronts IMO) to get over wanting/needing to be the best and most powerful country in the world.
Embrace the Olympic ideal with the spirit of comptetion among people from around the world as being more important than results or medal counts.
I think some Jazz fans are coming to the realization that LM is really about to re-sign with them and waste a year (possibly more) of their rebuild lol
because he’s going to be 30+ by the time they’re realistically ready to compete if they ever get to that level. They’re not going to shut him down after an extension and with him playing they’re probably going to win too many games to get favorable odds at the #1 pick.
Yeah i agree. The only way id consider trading Lauri away to the Warriors is if i could guarantee the Dubs being awful enough post Steph that it makes those 1st round picks highly valuable and that wont happen without trading away both Kuminga and Podz
I'd rather trade him to the Spurs or anywhere with a good package if I was Danny Ainge. Keeping him makes no sense to me especially when his value is high right now
>>>France coach Vincent Collet on Victor Wembanyama in Germany loss: “He stopped the ball too much. Against that kind of aggressiveness, you can’t play that way. You are never 1-on-1 because they come to double team and there’s no space to operate. It’s important to move the ball.”<<<
France is not very good. The Canada/Espana game was terrific. The Spainish kept it very close but couldn't close the deal. Team Canada is looking quite strong........
To add to what TRT said about waiting, their options with Post change if they do a deal that shaves a little salary. Right now they can only make him a 2-way, which would mean they’d have to move one of existing 2-ways.
Correct. At this moment, there are no two-way contract slots (three are taken by Beekman, Plowden and Spencer) and there is also no room under the hard salary cap to sign him to a rookie minimum contract.
Therefore, something will have to change in order to sign Post. If a trade is Finnished — see what I did there? — then that might change the payroll so that there is room to sign Post to a minimum NBA contract and all the two-ways can keep theirs. If no trades happen, then one of the two-ways will be waived, and GSW likely wants to delay this decision as long as possible.
Wemby not advertising himself well, as France are down after one. Germany looking decent, in the first eight minutes way too dependant on Wagner and Schröder to score.
It is fascinating how as I said before, not one guy on Germany would make the USA roster, yet they are a legit threat to beat us. And they soccer is the beautiful game.
Is it weird that I cant really separate a rooting interest between US and Canadian squads? Both teams have NBA players i like and root for and both teams have players i dont care too much for. The only decider is Steph (and watching KD cook to a lesser extent). I just dont feel any provincial pride like i would in say Gymnastics or Soccer
OT: New video for those interested. We enjoyed Kentucky a lot more that we expected. Louisville is a cool town (the Muhammed Ali museum and Evan Williams Bourbon Experience were the highlights) and Mammoth Caves National Park was breathtaking. https://youtu.be/uXfqSm9CTD8?si=VWFmp4aPt265s8Y1 (11 minutes)
We spent one night in Columbus on the the way to KC and our camper van broke down. It took 9 days to get the parts and work done, so we rented a car and AirBnB in KC and enjoyed it. That’s the video I’m currently editing.
Awesome breakdown, thanks so much!! I really appreciated that it was understandable for those of us who are not so X’s and O’s savvy. Also made me ponder:
- Is Steph’s defense lagging not just because of age, but because of all the constant motion he is tasked to do in the offense?
- As the rest of the world’s teams rise (yay, parity!), can we replicate how their teams prep for international play?
- And, why am I finding myself not detesting LeBron as much as I usually do? These games have really made me appreciate his unbelievable longevity and his teamwork ethos. First CP3 gained my respect, and now I’m thawing towards Lebron - good lord, will I be rooting for Austin Rivers next?! 😉
Yea, these Olympics have me feeling good feelings for LeBron, AD, D. White, heck even Tatum not being a total baby. And Booker trying on D?? Re-learning love for KD. Continuing to appreciate Ant, Bam, and Jrue. All very hard to square.
Still ain’t ever ever ever going to feel even slightly positive about the Lakers.
Ha! I’ve been slowly moving in LeBron’s direction for a little while now, too. It’s weird, but also probably a good thing to do while he’s still playing. Might as well get some enjoyment out of his amazing career. It’s one thing the Olympics are good for, actually.
I followed baseball really closely as a kid, and my team was the A’s. I loved those turn-of-the-century teams with Tejada and Giambi, and I would form such powerful and irrational antipathies to opposing players. When Ichiro showed up in Seattle, for instance, it felt so unfair to me. Like they just plucked this superstar out of thin air, fully formed. For the longest time, I couldn’t stand the guy. It was only after several years, as I got older and a little less tribal in my rooting habits, that I finally realized how utterly awesome he was, and what a privilege it had been to see him play in person so many times. But by that time he was on the downward slope. I was living in the midwest when his career was winding down with Miami, and I drove four hours to see him play at Wrigley Field, hoping I might catch hit #3000 (he was sitting somewhere around 2998 at the time). I think he went o-fer that day, but I remember cheering for him like a little kid, and feeling really bittersweet about what a waste it had been not to appreciate him more in his prime. I try (and mostly fail) to remember that when I’m rooting too bitterly against the W’s opposition these days.
Reminder: nothing personal to anyone, but I am deleting all political comments. Edge cases will be handled case by case… sorry.
Caboclo should be given another shot in the NBA

Oh no, now we know why he is missing so many shots in the games. C'mon Steph, practice actually making the shot, not missing it!

OK... I'll push the edge...

Reality is often different than what we perceive.
It should not be a disgrace for USA basketball to be beaten by international players.

That seems to be impossible in this age of me and the superstar.
I think some Jazz fans are coming to the realization that LM is really about to re-sign with them and waste a year (possibly more) of their rebuild lol
How is having him on the roster wasting a rebuild? He's a major part of their team.
because he’s going to be 30+ by the time they’re realistically ready to compete if they ever get to that level. They’re not going to shut him down after an extension and with him playing they’re probably going to win too many games to get favorable odds at the #1 pick.
I mean unless they plan on being a 30-40 win team for the next 4-5 years then in that case they’re right on track
I doubt you are correct, but a player like Lauri doesn't come around too often.
Yeah i agree. The only way id consider trading Lauri away to the Warriors is if i could guarantee the Dubs being awful enough post Steph that it makes those 1st round picks highly valuable and that wont happen without trading away both Kuminga and Podz

Depending on a such a green (though amazing) player is definitely going to yield inconsistent results.
r/NBA is blaming Collet for his flawed schemes.
Wemby should have as much international experience as anybody on that team.
Has the site addressed why Quinton Post hasn't been signed yet?

Nice ... I like puns. If anyone doesn't, Suomi
I'm still feeling pretty good that the Warriors haven't rushed into a bad deal to get LM.
I suspect what you're seeing is:
1. They aren't going to make a move until they have to ( I would guess just before training camp).
2. The FO is likely to be taking their summer vacations right about now. They were probably working 14 hour days until the second week in July.
But, you're right ... there is no information out there that I can find about him being signed.
Team Canada has finished group play at 3-0.
Greece beat Australia to get its first win and is now able to advance to the quarterfinals.
French players getting booed at home as they are down 21 points at the half. What scenes.
How do you say "paper tiger" in French?
tigre de papier
(literally and figuratively)
"Rudy Gobert"
Rudy Gobért*
Wemby not advertising himself well, as France are down after one. Germany looking decent, in the first eight minutes way too dependant on Wagner and Schröder to score.
Germany up 17; let's not forget they are the reigning World Champs. Despite not having a top NBA player they're very good.
It is fascinating how as I said before, not one guy on Germany would make the USA roster, yet they are a legit threat to beat us. And they soccer is the beautiful game.
Anyone get to watch Gui in Brazil v. Japan? Looks like Gui played a lot but only had 5 points, I was curious how he looked.
Oh, and congrats to Brazil for qualifying with the big win.

Kentucky ubderrated. Lived in Lexington for a minute. However felt very unwelcome in Columbus, OH anytime ive stopped there.

Went to Louisville last year for work. Fantastic city, probably not as rocking as it is when everyone’s back on campus though.
Haven’t watched yourvideo but you should check out the Louisville Slugger factory if you didn’t do that already!
We did go to Louisville Slugger 😁. Yeah, Louisville has a very cool vibe. Would definitely go back in the future.

Rooting for Austin Rivers would be pointless but not criminal. However, if you start rooting for Dillon Brooks, you're in deep, serious trouble.
And Steph reminds me that pure joy is the highest attainable goal in sports.
Yea, these Olympics have me feeling good feelings for LeBron, AD, D. White, heck even Tatum not being a total baby. And Booker trying on D?? Re-learning love for KD. Continuing to appreciate Ant, Bam, and Jrue. All very hard to square.
