On the Friggins matter, in this discussion there has been a lot of biology, pharmacy and philosophy. May I remind all of you that it is a matter of BASKETBALL? Think basketball, guys! AW has betrayed the team and the fans! Come on, open your eyes. Let’s think with Dray’s mind: we have Iguodala who accepts the bench after having been FMVP, and we have m*****ng Oubre who doesn’t; we have JTA that without a contract, risks his neck to save a ball, and we have m******ng Wiggins that isn’t willing to take a shot. I say we should trade him NOW.

Free agent Avery Bradley has agreed to a deal with the Golden State Warriors, sources tell me and @anthonyVslater.

Oh, it's just a camp invite. Still holding out for GP2.

A question for the contract experts: should Wiggins salary be halved because he won’t play home games, would that impact on salary cap? Would it allow us to get a very good FA?

Expand full comment

The owners can save $$ but not luxury tax or cap space.

Is Wiggins setting up for a potential lawsuit? It seems like his stance has hardened over time.

Expand full comment

Don’t believe so; cap hit should be unchanged.

Wow, you guys are very apologetic towards Wiggins behavior. Very kind and understanding of you. I am not. I see him as an extremely highly paid professional who refuses to comply to a very simple request for childish issues, thereby causing present and future damage to the organization that put faith on him and a seven zeroes sum in his pockets. Sorry guys, this is what I call betrayal. I’m not his fan anymore.

I agree with you - there's no excuse. I'd be all in for booing him at this point. And no, it's not just "another viewpoint" when the behavior puts people around you in danger.

Expand full comment

The thing about respecting other viewpoints is that it doesn't always make sense to you. That's the hard part.

But yeah. Not ideal. Especially with Klay and Wiseman out for the beginning of the season

There are some viewpoints that we don't respect, an extreme example being white nationalism.

Not saying being anti-vaccination is on the same level, just pointing out that respecting other viewpoints shouldn't necessarily be a given.

Right, the rejection of scientific solutions that could save millions of lives around the world has already been flourishing for years with the organics movement. People don’t like man made danger, even if it’s far better for the world overall.

No to both. I have nothing against either and still wish both well. I was hoping Chriss would make it back to the Ws and the Smiley would develop and take another shot at the NBA, but neither guy did enough for me to consider him an HWFL.

No to Smiley as an NBA HWFL and sadly, no to Chriss. I really hoped we could bring Chriss back and he could earn that HWFL.

OK, so Wiggins aside for a moment, who else in the NBA isn't vaccinated? I want to know the highest profile opposing player who won't be allowed to play in Chase Center at this rate...

Kyrie (plus another un-named Net) both confirmed today too. Apparently Jersey has a similar rule to ours that will impact their team

Duby is stuck in the past… which is a lot like Jersey

hahahahah!! I swear to god, I screw this one up more than anything else. I'm not even going to pretend like I'll change, going to take this one with me to the grave.

It seemed like a pretty dumb reason TBH.

it's going to be crazy. Keep in mind that it's not just the employees, SF has mandatory vax requirement for ANYONE attending a large indoor event.

I'm actually a little confused how they're saying this only affects the home team

I don't see even an attempt at a reason in there...

thanks!

What a mess. Because when you look at the public site for it, the City flat out says "everyone 12 and older will need to show proof of vaccination" to go into these indoor venue spaces.

I guess this is the French Laundry version of the term "everyone" (some exceptions may apply)

Rooting for both, but also no to both. The Smiley story will forever be a part of Dubs lore regardless, its story filed into the same section of the library as classics like "Unstoppable baby!" and Anthony Randolph... big men who didn't work out as planned and will probably have had a better career overseas.

Like others, I'm really curious why we didn't pick up Chriss... maybe they felt he had a redundant (albeit more refined) skillset with Wiseman? And the addition of Bjelly meant even fewer minutes for him? *shrug*

Just a side note on the Smiley game: fwiw, it was an exhibition game vs. a EuroLeague team

Do you think we could get Di'Angelo Russell for Wiggins and a top 3 protected 1st Round Pick?

No, maybe if we could offer Simmons though

Smiley is just a Honorary Santa Cruz Warriors for life , but i will always remember his free throw line dunk attempt. :P

Chriss just needed time, i still don’t understand why Warriors didn’t signed him.

While not explicitly called out in the bylaws, by the letter of the law, HWFL is indeed inclusive of SCW. With this interpretation in mind, Smiley must be considered a first ballot HWFL. Case closed.

Expand full comment

Now that's a bit of slick lawyering but... no. SCW should not be included or this could get entirely out of hand. But a separate (albeit clearly unequal) HSCWFL is an interesting idea.

You may appeal the decision of this lower court to DNHQSC. However, citing that a member of the DNHQSC has already publicly ”liked” the ruling, I do not believe they will overturn.

On topic to both, I have no ill will for either and have a fondness for Chriss, and I wish we had signed him to that 15th spot. But no, not HWFL.

I honestly think one more year and smiley would have been decent, he has the tools to be a great small ball five and has shown his aggressiveness, just hasn't put it all together yet in the nba setting
